Chapter Seven - Part Thirteen

Legacy of the Queen - Act Two

Following Winter is Coming, Kylie would cut a promo whilst holding the Winter Cup. Rae would openly mock Venom Banks and all the fans that had just thought some has been was going to walk through the Forbidden Door and just win a shot at the title, like the rest of the division were bunch of losers that were just going to drop like a hat in the presence of one of VKM’s pet projects. Kylie would make the point that she was a former Women’s World Champion and that at New Year’s Smash she was going to the woman that would finally bring an end Priestley’s reign of terror. Kylie though, would make it clear that Bea had proven herself as the best that AEW had to offer, and so claiming a title victory over her would be no easy feat.

On Atomic, Bea would hype herself up in a promo making it clear that there was no one on the roster worthy of a time apart from fellow Oedo Tai members - but unlike Hayter they would never betray the cause. She would make it clear that Kylie Rae, Thunder Rosa and Venom Banks were just inadequate in comparison. Just as she was finishing though, she would be interrupted by Kylie Rae who would make it clear that if Bea spoke a little less, she might almost be likeable. Priestley would make it clear that Kylie actually had potential to be part of Oedo Tai, if only if she was a little bit more agreeable. The next week on Atomic, Rae would claim a victory over Starlight Kid adding further fuel to the fire.

On Rampage with two weeks to go until their title match, Kylie Rae would ambush Priestley backstage by nailing the champ with the Winter Cup denting it in the process. Rae would inform Bea that she could be the trophy, because that next time they did battle the only thing she would be leaving with was the AEW Women’s World Championship.

On the Rampage go-home show, Priestley and Baker would face an unlikely pairing of Kylie Rae and Angelina Love. Rae and Love would have worked surprisingly well together, so much so that they would end up claiming a win. After the match Kylie and Bea would have an intense stare down, although Angelia Love would push herself into the fray almost as if to suggest that irrespective of the result she wanted a piece of the action.

Omega x Nakamura - Act One

Shinsuke Nakamura would cut a promo following his victory at Full Gear, with Nakamura making it clear that he was very much looking forward to challenging for AEW World Championship at Revolution in three months time and would make it clear that he hoped Kenny Omega managed to retain so that he would be the man to bring Omega’s reign to an end.

On the next episode of Dynamite, Omega would be confronted backstage by MJF who would make it clear that he had been personally insulted when he hadn’t been included in the Casino Ladder match, but would make it clear that he was more than capable of beating Omega if he was presented with the opportunity. Kenny would have a massive grin on his face as he would openly mock Maxwell to his face and make it clear that were was no chance in hell that he would even be able to muster a challenge of any credibility and make it clear that MJF was all bark and no bite. During the same episode Shinsuke would continue his run of dominance by claiming an impressive win over Jordan Oliver, with Oliver turning a lot of heads with a stellar performance.

Omega would team up Hangman Page, with the Elite claiming a tag team victory over MJF & Brodie Lee on the third Dynamite of the month. After the contest, Omega would once again make a mockery of Maxwell - before saying that he believed in charity during the festive season, and so would take on the role of Santa Omega and give MJF the present he had always wanted. The chance to be a world champion. Omega would offer MJF his hand, and it would be taken only for Omega to hoist his opposite number up and level him with the One-Winged Angel and pulverising him in the middle of the ring.

On Rampage, Nakamura would claim an impressive victory over Paul London. After the match he would be about to be interviewed by Tony Schiavone in the ring, only to be blindsided by Cody Rhodes who would nail Nak with the Cross Rhodes before taking over the interview and making it clear that he might have not been able to win the Casino Ladder Match, but was hands down the better man in a one-on-one scenario.

In an outstanding match on the Dynamite go-home show Nakamura and PCO would wrestle to a five star world class match, with Nakamura going 21-0 in AEW by claiming the victory. After the match, Nakamura would make it clear that MJF was just a distraction - but that Revolution he would be the man to bring to finally bring Omega to his knees and claim the AEW World Championship. Nakamura would end up being attacked from behind by the Young Bucks who would nail Nak with tandem Super Kicks before Omega would enter the ring and connect with the V-Trigger. Omega would grab the microphone and send a clear message not just to Nakamura, but the rest of the locker-room - The Elite would also be the gold star in AEW.

In an unlikely pairing MJF would be joined by Nakamura to team up to face Omega and Nick Jackson. However, the match would never really get underway as Matt Jackson would slide into the ring early on and whack Nakamura over the head with a steel chair resulting in the match ending via disqualification. With Shinsuke down for the count, MJF would suffer a three-on-one assault at the hand of The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega ahead of their AEW World Championship match in just a few days time. Despite his efforts, MJF would prove to simply not be good enough to beat Kenny, who would retain the belt and do so in an impressive manner although would show more signs of fatigue than he would have wanted to let on. Any celebrations would be delayed though, as Nakamura would sneak into the ring and nail Omega with his own World Title belt that would send a clear message to the champion of things to come.

Jacob Fatu who had won the Pumpkin Bowl the previous week would make it clear that he didn’t want to wait until Blood and Guts and that if Omega had any balls he would just grant him a shot at the title sooner rather than later. Later that same evening, Nakamura would feature in a promo where he would reveal that at New Year’s Smash, he and two handpicked allies of his choice would take on Kenny and two of his in a Trios Match at the special event and would make a point that he knew Kenny wasn’t going to accept Fatu challenge or anyone else’s of a match before Revolution, because Omega pointedly bluntly was only one word - a coward. On Rampage - Omega and Fatu would do battle, although in Trios action in the first official match between Contra Unit and The Elite. Contra (Fatu, Cobb & Penta) would claim the victory over the Bucks & Omega. After the contest, Josef Samael would take the microphone and make it clear that following this win for Contra, Kenny would have no choice but to grant Fatu a shot for his title.

It would be announced prior to Dynamite that Omega was set to face Fatu for the AEW World Championship in the evening’s opening contest. A stipulation was put into place though, that if Fatu lost to Kenny he would be forced to defend the Pumpkin Bowl immediately after the contest. Fatu, not being one to doubt himself, would accept terms. The contest would be an interesting encounter, but Kenny would continue to show why he was the real deal and retain the belt once again. After the contest, Omega would be joined in the ring by The Elite who would offer Fatu some post-match punishment with The Young Bucks nailing Fatu with the Super Party before an uneasy looking Hangman despite clear reservations would nail Fatu over the head with a steel chair.

The Elite would exit the ring, but that would be the end of it for Fatu who would be forced to defend the Pumpkin Bowl immediately afterwards and Gresham would claim a squash victory to reclaim the Pumpkin Bowl.

Nakamura would reveal WALTER & Gabriel Kidd as his partners for New Year’s Smash, with the duo putting on a valiant effort against Omega’s chosen partner the Young Bucks who would claim the victory for The Elite. After the match, Kenny would demand Page to attack Nakamura from behind with a steel chair but Hangman would hesitate long enough for Shinsuke, WALTER & Kidd to flee the ring.

The First Fight 2021

It was announced that the ‘First Fight’ tournament had been moved from its previous spot as a tournament at Double or Nothing, to now taking place at New Year’s Smash. Tony Khan would go on to confirm that a new championship belt, in particular a new tag team championship belt was going to be up for grabs and that it would act as a secondary tag team belt in a similar fashion to the NJPW and NOAH’s Junior Tag Team Championship. The big difference though would that these belts would be open-weight - hence the name AEW Openweight Tag Team Championships.

It was decided that in order to create a level playing field, no previous holders of the AEW World Tag Team Championships would be eligible to enter the tournament to crown the first champions. This would result in The Expendables, Gunn Club, Briscoe Brothers, R-Union Party, John Silver & Alex Reynolds, Cryme Tyme and The Butcher & The Blade being confirmed as the confirmed seven entrants into the tournament, with a wild card team yet to be confirmed.

A week later, nZo & CaZXL would debut on Dynamite and confirm themselves as the final entrant into the third edition of the First Fight tournament with nZo making it clear that he and CaZ had signed with All Elite Wrestling because they were the only ‘real ones’ left in pro wrestling.

PAC x Allin - Act One

On the first episode of Dynamite following Full Gear, PAC would be clearly frustrated as he would make it clearly how annoyed he was to have fallen short of winning the Casino Ladder Match and would make it clear that he was far from pleased with his form as of late, and that ever since the ‘Company of Bastards’ had been forced to disband everything had been different - but he would make it clear that if he was ever going to climb back to the top of the mountain he needed to stand shoulder to shoulder with men that weren’t afraid to spill blood to get results before making it clear that he had been massively impressed with Darby Allin. ‘The Bastard’ would make it clear that it didn’t matter what happened between him and Darby in the ring, just as long as they were able to look each other in the eye and spot the monster within each other and smile.

Later on during the night, Darby and PAC would cross paths with Darby making it clear that he had no idea what PAC had been talking about earlier, but he wasn’t interested in anything he was selling. PAC would make it clear that at this stage in proceedings feelings were irrelevant before both men would break out in a brutal fight backstage throwing haymakers at each other as they would be pulled apart by an array of other wrestlers doing their best to keep both men apart.

In a video package various wrestlers who had worked with and wrestled against Darby and PAC would talk about how talented both men were and how both men’s opposing styles could make them the most destructive force in wrestling if at some point in the future they decided to team up. Everyone interviewed would make it clear that both men battling each other in the ring could prove to be one of the greatest matches of all time if both men came in with full commitment and a real motivation to win.

In a reunion of sorts for one night only PAC would team up with former ‘Company of Bastards’ members PCO & Luthor to take on the team of Darby Allin and The Briscoe Brother in a truly electric main-event that would end in a time limit draw due to Dynamite about to be going off the air with the fans being left just wanting more. A follow up of the match would take place on Dynamite, but this time PAC & Luthor vs. Darby & Jay Briscoe in another intense showdown, but the deadlock would be broken when Briscoe would nail Luthor with the Jay Driller. After the loss, PAC would make it clear that Luthor was an example of why he and Darby belonged as part of the same group, instead of being surrounded by those weaker than them. Darby would rip the microphone out of PAC’s hands and make it clear that all he cared about was fighting and all this talking about friendships and partnerships meant nothing to him.

Both men would battle it out in a bloody feud, but it would be the former World Champion PAC who would walk away with the win to win name. Darby thought after the match, despite having donned the crimson mask, would refuse to shake ‘The Bastards’ hand and it being evidently clear that these two men were far from being done with each other and the match at Winter is Coming was merely the catalyst for more to come. Two weeks following Winter is Coming the two men would battle once again, in a brutal street fight that would close the show that would see Darby Allin this time claiming a victory over PAC.

The pair would come to agreement that one way or another, they would settle their differences at New Year’s Smash and whether they left as new friends or old enemies as long as they painted the ring with their blood it wouldn’t matter.

Chapter Seven - Finale Part One

4agjiVp.jpg

NQKQeyb.jpg

[The first quarter finals would see a familiar team in The Expendables, taking on arguably a more established team in R-Union Party in an interesting match to kickoff the tournament. PCO though would show just how unhinged he was, as would end up being more focused on hurting his opponents rather than going for the easy finish which would clearly frustrate his partner during one of the French-Canadian Frankenstein’s malfunctions. The match would end up being a great contest though, with Gotch & Morris nailing London with the Red Cup (Whirling Dervish) to win the contest and advance to the next round of the tournament. - 4.5 Star]

d52AMAM.jpg

[Silver & Reynolds had been proving themselves as of late as an extremely valuable member of the Dark Order, and would continue to prove their worth as the newest two members of the group with the match ending with the pair nailing The Blade with Double Front-Flip DDT to claim the victory and book themselves to face R-Union Party on Night Two. - 3.75 Star]

8L39mWv.jpg

[Tensions between TH4 and the Bullet Club had been going on for months though, with the Bullet Club very much being the faction that had won a strong 80% of the battle and were very much see as the dominant force going into the contest especially now that the Wild Boyz were part of the group. The difference maker though, would very much prove to be TJP with the TNT Champion proving to be the difference maker as he would trap Hikuleo in Figure Four Leglock and force him to tap claiming an absolutely massive win for The Hybrid 4. - 4.0 Star

After the match ‘The Hero 1’ Chris Hero would personally thank TJP for helping out the group and make it clear that he ever needed a favour the five of them would always have his back before making it clear that he intended on clean sweeping the Bullet Club and made it clear that he would stop at nothing to force Black to quit in the same manner that Hikuleo had done just a few moments earlier.]

SsiJWpM.jpg

[The Briscoes had been a bit unfortunate since joining AEW, but Mark and Jay looked in great form as they took on Shad and JTG to the point where it became very clear who the dominant team in the contest was with the Briscoes claiming the W as they would wipe JTG out with the Springboard Doomsday and advance to face the winner of last tournament match of the evening. - 3.5 Star]

5WnopW7.jpg

[nZo and CaZXL would make their AEW debut and would be a meat with a mixed reaction, with it being clear that the fans were sure how they felt about the pairing. The debutantes though would show they had benefited from some time working in AEW Developmental as they would look similar to their former selves that had been crowd pullers in their early days in NXT with the pair claiming an important first match win as they would come together with nail Austin with the Rocket Launcher to see the realest guys in the room advance with the knowledge they would face the Briscoes. - 4.0 Star]

5wOqQmo.jpg

[There were certainly tensions between Banks and Rosa, considering Thunder still had visible marks on her throat from Venom’s attack with the garrote. The tone of the match would really be set when the pair would go straight into punching the other in the face with closed fists, with it being clear that this was a match fuelled by hatred. The match would suffer on this basis though, with it being clear that the technical side of wrestling wouldn’t feature as instead both women were more focused on hurting each other. The match would come to a conclusion with both women battling at ringside, with Banks dropping Thunder down with a sharp force with the Bankrupt onto the steel steps that would cause Rosa to bounce at an awkward angle. Venom would just smile as she would slide into the ring, as watch on as the referee would be left with no choice but to call for the bell after making the ten count and ending the match via count out. -
3.5 Star

Venom would then grab a microphone and send a clear message to Kylie Rae and Bea Priestley, that whether she was officially recognized or not - she was the person that both of them would want to face at Revolution if they were hoping to legitimise themselves as the AEW Women’s World Champion.]

4qCaYa3.jpg

[The final match of the evening wasn’t going to count on either man’s records, but it was clear that for both men the outcome of the match was more important than a win/loss record. With no rules in place, the only purpose of the referee was to make the three count or signal a submission or knockout had taken place. Below are some of the memorable moments from the contest:

- Darby Allin had wedged PAC in the corner of the ring, so that his back was to the ring and his feet were dangling out of the corner before leaping off the opposite turnbuckle with a Coast-to-Coast kick whilst holding a skateboard deck that would take the brunt of the impact.

- Allin and PAC had been fighting near the commentary table, when PAC had grabbed hold of a steel chair and slammed it over Darby’s head before laying him on the table and telling the JR, Excalibur and Schiavone to clear the space before climbing one of the lights struts and landing on top of his man and breaking the table from the impact with the Black Arrow that would both men out as they would struggle to get back to their feet for a good minute or so.

- It wouldn’t be the only high impact aerial move that would take place. Darby would set up six steel chairs and end up placing PAC on top of them before clambering up onto the turnbuckle and leaping off crashing down onto ‘The Bastard’ with a brutal Coffin Drop that looked like it had knocked the wind out of both men.

- The match would enter into a truly bloody portion of the contest, as PAC would retrieve a bag of thumbtacks from the underneath the ring and then pour the entire contest of the bag onto the floor before spring-boarding off the ropes and nailing Darby with a Moonsault into a Tornado DDT combination with Allin’s face clattering into the tacks with the sharp points visibly puncturing his face and blood dripping everywhere.

The match would go past the twenty minute mark and it was clear that the fans were loving every minute of the contest, with Darby's face having continued to bleed with tacks still stuck in there having not been able to remove all of them. The match would end with a groggy Allin struggling to get back to his feet, as PAC would leap up the turnbuckle and nail Darby in the back of the head with a double knee strike sending him face first into a steel chair before reaching out over and laying a hand on top of Darby for the cover to claim the match victory. The show would come to a close, with PAC barely able to sit up, as his hand would be raised by the match official to indicate he had won the contest. - 5.5 Star]

[The second night of New Year’s Smash would begin with a Semi Final match between R-Union Party and Silver & Reynolds. The match would be of a high standard with both teams really showing their desire to advance to the final, but it was R-Union Party whom seemed to gain an advantage early on as they utilised quick tags maintaining high levels of energy, which slowly wearing down John Silver until they would for the second time in as many nights connect with the Red Cup (Whirling Dervish) to claim the victory and booked themselves in the final of the third edition of the ‘First Fight Tournament’. - 4.0 Star]

[nZo and CaZXL would enter the match with an air of confidence to themselves, but would quickly be silenced as it was clear that Jay and Mark were not going to tolerate their bullshit. So much so that Mark Briscoe made it his purpose in his match to irrirate the fuck out nZo and goad non-stop until he would manage to draw him out onto the entrance ramp only to pick him up and drop him on his head with a brutal Cut-Throat Driver that would seemingly rule out nZo for the rest of the contest. The one man advantage would change the tone of the match, and turn into a foregone conclusion that would affect the quality of the contest with the Briscoe Brothers picking up the win and advancing to the final. - 3.25 Star]

eDUPQXL.jpg

`[There was a large degree of bad blood between Cody and QT, which had really surfaced when Marshall and the Gunn Club had severed ties with the Nightmare Family. The match itself would be intense in places with it being clear that we were very much seeing the very best version of QT, who was clearly motivated with all of his being to get a victory over Cody. The truth though, was that although this contest had the making of a Cinderella Story when push came to shove, it was still Cody who was the standout better athlete but despite nailing Marshall with the Cross Rhodes, the American Nightmare would look on in disbelief as QT Marshall would kick out at the last possible moment. Cody would clearly be heard shouting “stay down you fool” as he would force QT up and nail him with the Tiger Driver ‘98 that would in fact bring the match to a close. - 4.5 Star]

Zt9FYjp.jpg

[The Trios Match would go down as one of the better matches of New Year’s Smash, with the standout performed of the match being Gabriel Kidd who would really step up to the plate and prove that he would go toe to toe with some of the best in the business and it was clear at times that his rapid rise up the ladder had only accelerated tenfold following his match against WALTER at Winter is Coming. It would also be the first time that Omega and Nakamura would meet on opposite sides of the ring since Nakamura had earned his shot for the title and for the brief moments both men were in the ring, you would just feel the heat exuding off both men that only just made the fans desire the big match that would happen between both men at Revolution.

That would eventually come to an end with Kenny and Gabriel in the ring, with Kidd putting on a great performance but getting caught out by Omega’s experience as he would be wiped out with the One-Winged Angel that would bring the match to an end. - 5.0 Star

After the match, Kenny and Shinsuke would have an intense stare down in the ring with Kenny being confronted in lifting up the title belt right in Nakamura’s face in a clear reminder that he was the champion and that his foe would do right to remember that fact.]

UQcrX1t.jpg

[The feud between the TH4 & The Bullet Club had been going on longer than either Hero or Black been made the respective leaders of both groups. Both men put on a great performance, with the motivation of claiming a big win for their factions being more than enough reason to push them to victory. Tyler Black though after nailing Hero with The Blackout (Curb Stomp) would claim control of the match and it would become clear that he was like a cat playing with its food as he would connect with multiple superkicks with Hero resting up against the ropes before nailing him with the Pedigree to bring the match to a finish as Hero would be heard saying “I Quit” by the referee only for Black to add insult to injury by nailing him with The Blackout for a second time in the contest. Black would add insult to injury by draping the flag of Bullet Club over Chris Hero, whilst he celebrated the victory in the ring. - 3.5 Star]

[R-Union Party and The Briscoe Brother entered the match with the ambition of not just becoming the inaugural AEW Openweight Tag Team Champions, but to also become the third winner of the First Fight Tournament which had previously been won by Kenny Omega and Love & Hayte, with the latter resulting in the crowning of the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Championships meaning there was a large amount of clout that came with winning one of the recognised tournament that AEW provided on a yearly basis.

The match itself would be intense, although both teams were showing signs of fatigue, with both teams having had experience of working busy schedules. There would be a number of close finishes, with the match finally coming to a finish when the Briscoe Brothers would nail Gotch with the Springboard Doomsday Device to claim the victory and by doing so become the inaugural AEW Openweight Tag Team Champions. -

[Bea Priestley entered the match as one of the most feared women wrestlers not just in AEW, but in the entirety of pro wrestling continue how dominant he second reign as the AEW Women’s World Champion had been and it was clear from the get go that Kylie was approaching Priestley with a certain level of a respect and not falling into a trap and missing out on reclaiming the belt she had lost nine months ago at Double or Nothing 2020. Below are some key highlights are took place in the contest:

- Bea who had clearly come into the contest with a strategy would target Kylie’s wrists, and would utilise the ropes to add extra pressure and weight to damaging moves which would be completely illegal, but would do the job as Rae would clutch at them clearly having been left in some discomfort.

- Kylie though would give as good as she got, as she would end up nailing Priestley with the RaeBlade (Sling Blade) although with the Bea’s neck first point of contact being the bottom rope rather than the canvas with Priestley clutching at her neck clearly in large amount of pain.

The match would come to a finish after Bea had leaped off the turnbuckle and landed on top of Rae’s wrists with a crunching double foot stomp off the turnbuckle with Kylie arms having been laid over the steel steps. With Rae screaming in pain, Priestley would take advantage of the situation and force Kylie back into the ring before clambering up onto the ring apron and would leaping over the ropes landing on top of Rae with a Diving Leg Drop that she would transition into the Fatality (Double Wristlock) that wouldn’t take long to force Rae to tap out.

With Kylie being attended to by the referee and a ringside doctor, Priestley would drop to her knees and kiss her championship belt like it were her own child before raising the belt above her head with a massive smile on her face with the victory being the 20th defence of her second reign. New Year’s Slam would end with Priestley making her over to turnbuckle and leaning up against it with a wicked smile on her face. - 5.25 Star]

The winner/s of the prediction contest were both @Canadian Dragon & @The Fourth Wall who got a score of 10. As their prize, they get which team will challenge for the AEW Openweight Tag Team Championships at Revolution. Because they both won, the match at Revolution will be a Triple Threat match with each getting to pick one of the contenders. The only requirements - at this stage in the booking stage is the team you select can't be a former World Tag Team Champion.

I will also sending you both a shared private message with the list of the current developmental pool, where you will each get to select four wrestlers to be promoted to the main roster.

Omega x Nakamura - Act Two

Following New Year’s Smash, Kenny would cut a very obnoxious promo where he would make it clear that he had seen the very best that Nakamura had to offer in their Trios Match and he hadn’t been impressed at all and that he would have been more worried if he was facing WALTER than an over-rated, over-hyped and over the top reject that was always going to be a nearly man in AEW and that at Revolution the trend would continue. Omega would make it clear that Nakamura was only unbeaten in singles competition because he had never been offered a real challenge, but that at Revolution he was going to enjoy crushing Shinsuke’s dream and continue to prove himself as the Gold Standard of All Elite Wrestling.

The next week on Dynamite the two men would cross paths, and Nakamura would challenge Omega to tag team match on Rampage. Omega would laugh at Shinsuke, but make it clear that he had no problem in facing Nakamura again and that just like at New Year’s Smash it would be The Elite walking away with the victory.

For the next show, Nakamura would be booked to face PCO with the French-Canadian Frankenstein being seen as the man who had been almost good enough to beat Omega on three separate occasions for the World Title. NAK would continue to show just exactly why he was in the position he was by claiming a strong win. After the contest, Omega would slide into the ring and nail Shinsuke with the V-Trigger before dragging him up to his feet and nailing him with the OWA.

During go-home week, PAC and Nakamura would have a moment backstage - with the pair due to do battle in the evening’s main-event. PAC would make it clear that he wouldn’t be taking it easy on Shinsuke tonight, but that he, along with nearly everyone else in the locker-room, would be rooting for him at Revolution. PAC and Nakamura would go on to have a great match, but Nakamura would continue his solid form to take his singles record in AEW to 24-0. After the contest, Kenny would confront Nakamura with the pair having a stare down before Omega would reveal that he had requested to defend his title within the confines of a Steel Cage.
