For me:
- Grammar, grammar, grammar. This means you, McHenry - commas do exist you know
. I can put up with the odd spelling mistake (even though it may make me cringe), but please do be careful.
- Execution. For what the segment is (promo, backstory, interview) is it well executed? Did it keep me reading? Or did I tune out halfway through? And was it easy to follow? Eye candy does count here, too, so at least use some paragraph spacing and minimal coding.
- Character development. Does it give me a glimpse into who that character is and how they think? Or did it expand upon what I already knew about them, and if so, how well?
- Personal preference. I like some promos better than others. There is no reason for this except that I do. Deal with it
Hope that helps!
And Sean, I was pushing for a ratings system early on, too, but I see where Slim is going and I agree. In the PWA, we did have cases where a - everyone started tailoring their promos to the last detail so that they lost spontaneity, b - someone lost to an inferior opponent because they didn't give a shit about relativity and just wrote about what they felt like (hello, me!) and c - people whined about how their RP was more relative or better written than the other guy's and the graders were biased, etc (hello, me again!
). Not to mention Word Count was a bitch! So yeah, I kinda agree with Slim.
I had written a set of rules for the PWA at one point, I could do the same for ACW (with input from Slim and Beedz of course!)
And Slim, can we push the character limit to three? Pleeeeeeeease? (Puppy-dog eyes)
