Why?

I'm not talking about marriage as a religious ceremony.

I mean in the eyes of the law, why should a same sex couple not be viewed in the same way as a male/female couple?

I am all for equality but for me, a marriage is a sacred bond. In this day and age, however, its become a joke, a piece of paper that says what you are entitled to. The aspect of two men or two women getting married that I can agree with is if they are able to claim each other by law. If a man's husband dies, he will get life insurance, support, ect. My view on marriage is held higher then most people. I do think that it is unfair that a gay couple can't legally claim each other, I would imagine that is what the fuss is over.

Marriage is traditional and is proof of your love. It's a commitment, a bond, and I can completely understand why any couple would want to go through the expensive process. There are obviously a LOT of sociological factors and pressure to get married, but I can see why they would want to and I am baffled constantly by anyone who opposes that. I understand religion is seemingly against it, but you do not choose your sexuality, so that effectively makes God responsible for their sexuality which is ridiculously ironic.

That's what the definition of marriage is.

Definition of MARRIAGE

1
a (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>

Any sacred ties or meanings you want to add to it, fine. But that doesn't mean your personal feelings need to make it acceptable to forbid certain people from enjoying the perks of marriage (saying this tongue in cheek, lol marriage)

Not saying your personal feelings specifically, just those of the religious fundamentalists who push their beliefs on everyone and think their religious beliefs should have an affect on laws

And this is exactly why religion is absolutely stupid.

Posts like this cause arguments. If you have an opinion on something as controversial and serious as religion, then argue it properly and like an adult.

"Religion is stupid" is the most generalised and immature statement to make. If you think it is stupid, why not explain why you think it is stupid in conciliatory terminology.

You can't battle ignorance with ignorance buddy, you can't say religion is stupid based upon a select few who wish to remove another's rights. Many atheist hate gay marriage too, religion isn't the common denominator lack of understanding is.

The fact that two men can't marry and are judged just because they want too marry is completely idiotic. These people are completely hypocritical. They all try to preach love thy neighbour and the rest of it, but when it comes down to it their just judgemental pr*cks.

Can you see how generalised that post is? My Nan is a Christian but she is actually for gay marriage, but by your logic she comes down as an "judgemental prick" as well. Stop stereotyping all religious people by the actions of a few. It's the same as stereotyping all Islamic people as terrorists; it's ignorant and childish.

:pity: I'm not at school for my grammar lessons.

I can have my opinion. Whether you agree with it or not, doesn't really matter.

So your opinion is that ALL religious people are stupid and judgemental pricks? Seems legit.

Physical/sexual attraction is a chemical reaction in the brain, not a choice. Granted, I'm using scientific evidence from the 21st century and not thousands/million year old religious texts full of archaic superstitions, but I still think my point is valid. I don't think gay people should be judged too much if they can't help being the way they are.
