Ben Affleck may already have a successor on his tail: Benedict Cumberbatch.
At DreamWorks Animation’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Thursday afternoon, the “Sherlock†star responded to a fan’s question over what classic comicbook character he would most want to play with the thought-out declaration: “Batman, I guess, yeah.â€
Cumberbatch, alongside John Malkovich, made his debut Comic-Con appearance to promote his role in this fall’s “Penguins of Madagascar,†which opens Nov. 26. Responding to the same question, Malkovich stated that he would most want to play Lois Lane.
The joke comes on the week of Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s celebrated 75th anniversary of Batman. Affleck will star as the Caped Crusader in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice†on May 6, 2016.
Cumberbatch may also be at Comic-Con to promote Warner Bros.’s upcoming “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,†in which he reprises his role as the dragon Smaug. Additionally, rumors have been floating that Cumberbatch may have a role as Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel movie. Such news may come to light on Saturday, at Marvel Studios’ 5:30 p.m. presentation.
Someone please make this happen.
