The Matrix came out in 1999 and still has better looking special effects than most movies today. It just goes to show how the reliance on too much CGI can take away from a movie. Holds up even in 2021. I remember thinking the bullet dodging and slow motion scenes were so cool growing up.

Disheveled, grunting, pre diabetic Russell Crowe rips through traffic in a red mist of MGTOW rage. So much shit in this movie makes no sense, but who cares. Ending ties it up real well and they kept it short.

Not the greatest film ever made, but very unique. Afghanistan is truly the graveyard of empires and to see that through a supernatural mystic lense instead of some clinical military procedural was refreshing. The ending is sickeningly vague though, you can tell these guys made Blair Witch.

The Hitcher remake. It's not as good as the original, but I watched it for Sean Bean, and he puts in a pretty decent performance. The movie isn't super long and paced well, and it had enough tense scenes to keep my attention. I just think it was missing a little something to take it to the next level, I don't think they let Sean Bean get crazy enough. Tone of it was great though, especially the rainy opening parts. I'm a sucker for rain in horror movies

That opening with Drew Barrymore still gets me all these years later. Such a tense opening that really sets the scene for the rest of the movie to follow. It's a credit to the movie that they killed off the most bankable star so early and it still managed to keep people glued until the end.

One of the funniest movies ever made. An anti porn PSA with the most Blue Christian parents ever, straight out of 1907. At one point in the movie he's burning off porn DVDs and you can see one of them is titled "Virgin Vaginas"...it's like this was written by an algorithm. Genius stuff, get properly shit faced prior to and during viewing.

Another one to add to the suburban angst and daddy issues canon. The abuse of a deaf girl goes to some very dark places. A good double feature with American Beauty. Cuthbert was never a great actress though she's solid in this, it's a bit of a mess overall but captivating in its own way.

Rewatching it right now. Absolute classic buddy comedy movie. Tucker and Ice Cube have lovely chemistry. One of my all-time faves.

I love The Sopranos, trust the people involved to make something good, and yet for some reason I still went into this with low expectations. It's messy, the race riot stuff was tame and undercooked, and some of the acting was miserable. John Magaro does the shittiest impression of Silvio ever, like something you'd see on MadTV in 2005. Then you've got Michael Gandolfini, Vera Farmiga and the guy who plays Dickie busting their ass to bring their characters to life. So I guess I'd recommend it cautiously to fans of the show, can't see anyone else getting much out of it and even the fans are split on it. I'd go easier on it if it was a pilot for a new show, hope that's the case.
