WWE Monday Night Raw
The Road to Summerslam begins here!
We open up Raw with a video package from last night’s huge Pay per View, but only on the Raw side of things. The Great American Bash theme song ‘Move to the Music’ by American Bang was playing in the background, as we first saw Rey Mysterio pinning John Morrison to retain his IC Title. It then cuts out to the amazing ladder match, with spots like the Sliced Bread #2 off of the ladder, the Brainbuster through the ladder that was resting on the barricade and ring apron and then the amazing Shooting Star Press off of the ladder being shown, before Smith is shown getting down the belts with some help from Regal. The Street Fight highlights are then displayed, with Undertaker returning as the American Badass, and then the Flying Elbow off the ladder (by Shawn), the Shawn Michaels Moonsault plancha and then the Last Ride through the table. The ambush from Taker is shown in black and white footage, with Shawn a bloody, unconscious mess. It cuts to the huge WWE Championship match, where Jeff Hardy pinned Randy Orton after a huge Twist of Fate/ Swanton Bomb combo. They show the masked Kane return, and the package ends with the Tombstone to Randy Orton.
Raw then opens up with its video package, where a photo of Jeff Hardy as the WWE Champion has been added. We then cut to the arena where there is a fabulous pyrotechnic display, as the crowd is going wild. We then cut to JR and the King at ringside, who firstly welcome us to the show. They then hype the huge Great American Bash, where they mainly focus on Jeff Hardy winning his first ever WWE Championship after defeating Randy Orton in the main event 24 hours ago. They then hype Kane's huge return with the mask, and that he will be at Raw right here tonight.
'No More Words' hits to a MASSIVE pop, as the NEW WWE Champion Jeff Hardy makes his way down to the ring, with the WWE Championship wrapped around his waist. Jeff does his signature little dance at the entrance ramp, before he slaps hands with the eager fans in the first couple of rows as he makes his way down to the ring. Once Jeff gets up to the top rope, he does his signature ‘Gunz’ taunt, before getting down off the top rope and clapping his hands to the beat of his entrance song. Jeff then gets a mic, but at first he can’t speak as a ‘Hardy’ chant breaks out from the crowd. Hardy manages to quiet the crowd down, as he goes onto thank the fans, as he goes onto talk about his win last night, and even goes as far to thank Kane. Jeff does the classic "good guy" talk after they win a major title, as he thanks the fans, and says he couldn't have done it without them. Before Jeff can say anymore, he is interrupted by...
‘Rule Britannia’ which hits to big heat, as the World Tag Team Champions the UKonnection make their way down to the ring, led by William Regal. Regal gets a mic and he also is unable to talk, as the crowd have started up a ‘You Suck’ chant. Regal tells the fans to shut up and show some respect, only to make the crowd get louder. Regal says with Hardy that he was not the only one who walked out with a victory last night, but the UKonnection also were victorious in their huge ladder match against Londrick. Regal says that all of the men in the UKonnection will become World Champions sooner rather than later, as William goes on to demand Hardy for a match tonight, for the WWE Championship! The crowd lets out a thunderous pop, as Jeff looks at his WWE Championship, and then looks out to the crowd. Jeff then says that there have been many doubters in the past 24 hours, who that his victory last night was nothing more than a fluke, but he will prove it tonight, when he defeats Regal in the main event. THE MATCH IS ON! ’No More Words’ blasts out once again, as Hardy and Regal go face to face with the whole UKonnection by Regal’s side.
*Commercial*
We return from the break with a ‘Moments Ago’ package, where the announcement of the main event was made with Jeff Hardy defending his newly won WWE Title against UKonnection leader William Regal, just 24 hours after Hardy won the then vacant title against Randy Orton. The announcers put over that we may crown two different WWE champions in as many nights, and that this may be the beginning of William Regal’s first ever reign as the WWE Champion. The King points out that it may be a repeat of last night’s ladder match with constant interference from the other UKonnection members, and because of Regal’s experience, Jeff will be going in as a serious underdog for the main event.
’Chavo Ardiente’ then hits to a pretty big amount of heat, as Chavo Guerrero makes his way down to the ring, ready for the first match of the night. Chavo bad mouths the fans as he makes his way down to the ring, as the announcers highlight Guerrero’s recent troubles with the former ‘Extremist’ and ECW Original Tommy Dreamer, which started when Guerrero eliminated Dreamer in the Intercontinental Title Battle Royal, causing Dreamer to retaliate and help eliminate Chavo. The announcers don’t bother to speak about Bam Neely, who has seemingly left the WWE, but they do talk about Dreamer costing Chavo the match against Cody Rhodes a couple of weeks ago, and also highlighting their backstage brawls.
‘Ain’t No Make Believe’ then hits to a very nice pop, as one quarter of last night’s great Intercontinental Title Fatal Four Way Match John Morrison makes his way down to the ring ready for his one on one contest, but not before doing his fabulous slow motion entrance at the top of the entrance ramp. The announcer team highlight that Morrison had a very impressive showing last night, but he was he one pinned by Mysterio last night, meaning that he probably won’t get an Intercontinental Title Match any time soon. Morrison gets in the ring and is ready for action, as the opening contest begins.
Match 1
John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero
This match was quite a good match, as the two former ECW Superstars put on a high flying contest. Chavo managed to nail a Tornado DDT from off of the top rope, but the former third of MNM responded a couple of minutes later with a Standing Shooting Star Press while Guerrero was incapacitated on the mat after a Springboard Dropkick. Morrison took charge after this, but a Super Hurricanrana attempt went astray, as Chavo reversed into a huge top rope Sit out Powerbomb! Chavo then dominated Morrison, and after a Gory Bomb, he headed up to the top rope, perhaps looking for a Frog Splash, but once again, right before Chavo would go for a Frog Splash, ’Extreme’ hit to a big pop, as Tommy Dreamer made his way out on the ramp. Chavo hopped down from the apron and approached the ropes, as the two fierce foes bad mouthed each other. While this was happening, Morrison had managed to get up, before he turned Chavo around, and then nailed a Moonlight Drive! 1...2...3!
Winner: John Morrison
Dreamer is pleased with his efforts as he has cost Chavo a singles match once again, as Morrison gets his arms raised in victory from the referee, a wide smirk on his face and along with cheers from the crowd. As Morrison heads up the ramp, he meets Dreamer, as the two former foes share a brief nod with each other (the two were in the Morrison and Miz vs. Delaney and Dreamer feud). Once Morrison heads through the curtain and to the back, Dreamer looks down at Chavo, before doing his signature arm pose to a pretty big pop from the crowd.
The camera then cuts to the backstage area, where we see MVP on the screen, stretching his leg up on a bench. Once the Superstar that is “Half Man and Half Amazing†comes on the screen, he is met with a massive amount of heat from the crowd, due to his attack last week on poor little Hornswoggle. With MVP on the screen, JR announces in a sombre tone that because of head injuries as a result of the vicious Playa’s Boot from last week, Hornswoggle will never be seen on a WWE screen again. King says that MVP better be watching his back for Finlay, as JR tells that MVP has a match, right after the break!
*Commercial*
We return from the commercial break with the former World Tag Team Champion Cody Rhodes in the ring with his music ‘Is Anybody Home’ playing in the background, to a small pop from the crowd. Rhodes is pacing up and down in the ring, ready for action, as Lillian Garcia introduces him to the fans. He gets little to no reaction once again, as he waits for his previously announced opponent MVP to come out from the backstage area.
‘I’m Comin’ then hits to huge heat, a little more than the reaction from before the commercial break, as MVP comes out from his inflatable tunnel, as the crowd pour in the heat for the man that put Hornswoggle out of the WWE. When Lillian introduces Porter, he gets more heat, as when he slides into the ring; he places his ‘305’ necklace on the top of the ring post. JR and the King talk about Porter’s interview last night with Todd Grisham.
Match 2
Cody Rhodes vs. Montel Vontavious Porter
The match was the obvious squash match to get MVP over as a bigger heel after he destroyed poor little Hornswoggle last week on Raw. Porter nailed Rhodes with all of his signature moves, such as an overhead Belly to Belly Suplex, a German Suplex and everyone’s favourite, the Ballin’ Elbow Drop. MVP lifted up a knocked out Rhodes before whipping him in the corner, before Montel charged at Cody and nailed him with a huge Playa’s Boot, the very move that put Hornswoggle out of action! The eyes roll to the back of Cody’s head, as the crowd give out huge heat towards MVP. Montel then lifts up the dead weight of Cody Rhodes, before delivering a huge Playmaker for the win at the four minute mark.
Winner: Montel Vontavious Porter
MVP gets up and smirks down at an unconscious Rhodes to heat from the crowd, before he goes back to the corner and goes to pick up his ‘305’ necklace. MVP then has an idea, however, as he gets his chain and wraps it around his fist and then lifts poor Rhodes up, before with shades of the Undertaker last night, MVP nails Rhodes square in the head with his chain wrapped fist! Blood pours from the skull of Rhodes, as the crowd pour in more heat for MVP’s assault on Rhodes.
‘Lambeg’ then hits to a huge pop, as Hornswoggle’s father Finlay makes his way down to the ring, with his shillelagh in hand, although it doesn’t look like Finlay is going to apologize like MVP demanded him to do last night. Finlay came out almost in reply to the fans plea for help, as MVP surprisingly doesn’t scarper through the crowd, but he instead waits in the ring, waiting to meet Finlay in the ring. Finlay looks to be a man on a mission, as his eyes are focussed on MVP in the ring, as the crowd cheers the “Belfast Brawler†on, wanting to see Finlay’s revenge on Porter after what MVP did last week to Finlay’s ‘son’ after Hornswoggle left the WWE to recover from the injuries sustained.
Finlay reaches the ring and slides in through the bottom rope, as MVP meets him with a right hand, before connecting with a couple of kicks and punches, as Finlay rests up against the ropes. MVP charges at Finlay, looking for a Playa’s Boot, but Finlay charges at Porter and does a double leg takedown, before drilling MVP with some right hands. Finlay then gets his shillelagh, and when MVP gets up, Finlay drills MVP in the head with the shillelagh! The crowd let out a big pop, as Finlay stands over a hurt MVP as we go to a commercial break.
*Commercial*
We return from the third commercial break of the night with another ‘Moments Ago’ video package, where we are first shown MVP’s assault on Rhodes and then Finlay’s save and then assault on fierce rival Montel Vontavious Porter. An image then comes on the screen hyping next week, as JR announces that next week, as just signed by Raw General Manager Shane McMahon, Finlay and MVP will go at it for the second time in three weeks, but this time, it will be in a NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH!
The announcers then have a complete mood swing, as they begin to talk about what happened twenty four hours ago, when Shawn Michaels was ambushed after his match with the Undertaker. We are then treated to a black and white image package, with the assault with the chain wrapped fist from Taker, the first Last Ride through the table, and then the assault post match with the 30 feet Last Ride off of the stage being shown. JR and the King then lead us onto another video package.
This video package shows Shawn Michaels’ trip to the hospital in New York right after the assault from Undertaker, as Shawn is still on a stretcher, as we have a voice over from one of the medical staff, saying that Shawn may have suffered a broken neck, and after his huge back injury in the past, that he may have broken a couple of bones. The doctor says that HBK may have indeed suffered a career threatening injury, but this quick into the injury, nothing is certain. We cut to JR and the King, who say that HBK is in their prayers, and they wish him a speedy recovery.
*Commercial*
We come back from a rather long commercial break, where we have Shane McMahon in the ring, receiving quite a good ovation from the crowd. McMahon then mentions last night’s huge PPV, and says that the next Pay Per View coming up is the second biggest PPV in the WWE, which is Summerslam. He says that he just got off of the phone with the Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long, and he announces that they have signed a second match for Summerslam. Shane goes on to say that there will be a inter- promotional Triple Threat match, and it will be for the WWE Women’s Championship, and says that right now, there will be a Triple Threat Qualifying match!
‘Rule Britannia’ then hits for the second time in the night to big heat, as the sister of Paul Burchill Katie Lea Burchill makes her way to down to the ring, hoping to get one step closer to winning her first ever WWE Women’s Championship, and her first ever piece of gold in the WWE. The announcers highlight that by Summerslam, the UKonnection could have the WWE, World Tag Team and Women’s Championships.
‘Not Enough for Me’ then rings out to a pretty big reception from the crowd, as the former high school teacher Michelle McCool makes her way down to the ring, ready to compete to have the right to face Mickie James in the Triple Threat match at Summerslam. The announcers don’t even acknowledge that before the draft, Michelle was one of the contenders for the Diva’s Championship.
‘Rule Britannia’ then hits once again to big heat, as the camera instantly cuts to a shocked Katie Lea Burchill, as Natalya Neidhart heads down to the ring, also shocked that she will have to go against her UKonnection counterpart and best friend in Katie Lea. The announcers point out that the UKonnection now have a 67 percent chance of heading to Summerslam to be a part of the Triple Threat Match.
Match #3
Winner heads to Women’s Title Triple Threat Match
Katie Lea Burchill vs. Michelle McCool vs. Natalya Neidhart
The beginning of the match was quite obvious, as the two best friends and UKonnection members Katie Lea and Natalya double teamed Michelle, each taking turns to pulverise the former teacher. The two nailed Michelle with a double suplex, but they couldn’t decide who would make the cover, giving McCool enough time to recover, as she eventually nailed them with a double clothesline. Michelle then threw Natalya out of the ring so she could work on Burchill, where she nailed her with a Bulldog, sending Katie’s face crashing into the mat. Michelle then locked in her devastating Brazilian Heel Hook, right in the centre of the ring! Just when it looked like Katie would tap, a recovered Neidhart ran in the ring, and got Michelle off. Michelle fought back by nailing some punches to the gut, but then she was met a boot to the gut from Natalya, quickly followed by a Running Powerslam for the win!
Winner and going to Summerslam: Natalya Neidhart!
Natalya gets her hand raised in victory to heat from the crowd, as she is now on step closer to winning the Women’s Title at Summerslam. Katie Lea begins to get up, as Natalya sees her best friend recovering. When Katie gets up, she sees Natalya and the two shrug at each other, with Burchill upset that she lost but also happy for Natalya. The crowd give heat as they were hoping that something would happen, but the two simply walk out with each other, bad mouthing the fans on the way out.
*Commercial*
We return from the break, with JR and the King saying that not only do we have a WWE Championship match coming up, but right now, we will have ourselves an inter promotional Cruiserweight Championship match, with the Cruiserweight Champion Kofi Kingstondefending his title against a man that came so close to winning a championship last night, and one half of the tag team Londrick, Paul London.
‘Rocker’ then hits to a pretty big pop, as Paul London makes his way down to the ring for his second title match in two nights, as he is accompanied by a jealous looking Brian Kendrick. London is oblivious to the fact that his partner is jealous of him getting a title shot, as he does his standard running entrance, as he waits for the champion to emerge from the tunnel. JR and the King are talking about last night’s ladder match as Londrick make their entrance.
‘SOS’ then blast out through the speakers to big heat, as the man that ambushed Matt Hardy and the current Cruiserweight Champion of the World Kofi Kingston makes his way to the ring with his completely different demeanour, eyes transfixed on the ring and ready for action. We are shown video footage of what happened after Smackdown US Title match, where Kofi assaulted Matt after Hardy got the victory over Punk.
Match 4
Cruiserweight Title Match
Paul London w/ Kendrick vs. Kofi Kingston (c)
This was the second match of the night with high flying action all the way throughout, as London and Kofi put on a great show for the fans. London hit Kingston with his patented Mushroom Stomp from off of the top rope, but that was only enough for a two count, although London did return the favour later on in the match, when Kofi had hit his huge double leg drop (now without theatrics due to his seriousness), London managed to get a hold of the bottom rope, denying Kofi the victory. Kofi then waited for London to get up, looking for his 450 Kick, before through the speakers, ‘Live for the Moment’ hit to a huge pop, but Matt Hardy was nowhere in sight. Kofi instantly walked over to the ropes and waited for Matt to come out, but Paul had recovered and nailed Kingston with a Dragon Suplex! London then quickly capitalized, hitting a Standing Shooting Star Press! 1...2...3! WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION!
Winner and NEW Cruiserweight Champion: Paul London!
The new champion rejoices as Kendrick looks on from the outside, unsure what to think, as it looks like somebody is jealous! Kendrick gets in the ring and half heartedly celebrates, as Kofi is obviously pissed off that he has lost his Cruiserweight Title, and it was all because of a distraction from Matt Hardy, returning the favour from last night. London gets his arms raised by Kendrick (who looks angry) and the referee, as we fade to another commercial break.
*Commercial*
We return from the break with a ‘Before the Break’ video package, where we seeing the ending of the Cruiserweight Title Match, where Kofi was about to hit the 450 Kick, before Matt Hardy’s music hit, distracting Kofi and allowing London to capitalize and hit a Dragon Suplex followed by a Standing Shooting Star Press for the win and the title. The announcers highlight how we saw a jealous look on the face of Kendrick.
‘I HEAR VOICES IN MY HEAD, THEY COME TO ME. THEY UNDERSTAND, THEY TALK TO ME!’
‘Voices’ continues to play to so far the biggest heat of the night, as none other than the man that lost last night in the main event Randy Orton makes his way down to the ring, obviously pissed off about last night with Kane’s return. The announcers talk about how Orton was on the way to victory last night but a Kane distraction cost him the title, and then they talk about the ambush after the main event.
Randy receives a mic from Lillian, and tells everyone to shut up because he is something to say only making the crowd get even louder. Randy talks about last night and how he was cost the WWE Championship because of the Big Red Fat Oaf Kane, as the mention of the Big Red Machine gets a big pop from the crowd. Randy says that Kane should have recovered for a bit longer to heal up the injuries that he sustained from Randy, because once Orton gets his hands on him, Kane will be sent straight back to the shelf.
Randy then talks about Jeff Hardy, and that he should watch his back, because when Randy is finished with Kane, he is going to go straight back to Jeff and get back his WWE Championship. Randy then tells us that he went to Shane McMahon just five minutes ago, and to get back at Kane, Shane O Mac has signed another match, Randy Orton vs. Kane at Summerslam! The crowd give a huge pop at the announcement, as the third SSlam match has been signed, and the first Raw exclusive.
‘Burned’ begins to play to the second biggest pop of the night (just behind Jeff Hardy at the top of the show), as the monster Kane makes his way down to the ring, making his Raw return after a three week absence after Randy Orton’s punt kick to the head. The announcers talk about how Randy was responsible for Kane’s unmasking after he gave Kane an RKO in his match with Triple H. Randy, surprisingly, waits in the ring for Kane, like MVP with Finlay earlier.
Kane climbs up the stairs and steps over the top rope to get into the ring, much like last night. Kane charges at Orton, going for a big boot, but Randy ducks under and connects with some punches to the back of Kane, and after Kane turns around, he connects with some punches to the face, although Kane seems to be unharmed by all of this. Randy then bounces off the ropes attempting a clothesline, but Kane meets him with a huge uppercut right to the jaw.
Randy staggers back into the ropes, and when he returns, he is met with a hand wrapped around the throat by Kane! Randy, not wanting to be Chokeslammed again, quickly hits Kane with a boot to the gut, before getting him in a cutter position, looking for the RKO. Before Orton could hit his signature move, however, he is pushed into the turnbuckles by Kane! Randy staggers out of the corner, as Kane turns him around, gets him on his shoulders, and nails Randy with a huge Tombstone Piledriver!
The crowd let out a huge pop for Kane’s other finisher, as Kane raises his arms, as the crowd knows what is coming next, and they join along with him. Kane then thrusts his arms down, as fire ignites out of the ring posts. We are shown a replay of the exciting sequence at the end, as JR and the King hype Orton and Kane’s match for SS. Kane heads over the top rope and makes his way up the ramp as we go to a commercial break.
*Commercial*
We return from the break with an ‘Earlier Tonight’ package, where we are shown Jeff Hardy’s Victory Promo, only to be interrupted by William Regal, who requests a WWE Championship match for the main event. Hardy says that many people have doubted him in the past 24 hours, and that the championship match was on for the main event. JR and the King ask if Jeff can retain his title, and that question will be answered right now, as it is main event time!
‘Rule Britannia’ then hits to very big heat, as accompanied by DH Smith and Paul Burchill (who are wearing the tag team titles), William Regal makes his way to the ring, hoping to become the WWE Champion for the first ever time, much like Jeff Hardy before last night. Regal heads to the ring, as his music goes silent, and the crowd rise up in anticipation, waiting for the WWE Champion’s entrance.
‘No More Words’ blasts out for the third time in the night to a huge ovation from the crowd, as the WWE Champion Jeff Hardy makes his way out to the entrance ramp doing his little dance, before he makes his way down to the ring, ready for his first title defence. The announcers once again say that Jeff is the underdog in this match due to Regal’s experience, and the fact that Regal has Smith and Burchill by his side.
Match 5
Main Event
WWE Championship
William Regal w/ Smith and Burchill vs. Jeff Hardy (c)
This match was a contrast of fighting styles, Hardy as a high flyer and Regal as a stiff brawler. The match went for about 12 minutes, with the crowd really involved. Regal worked on Hardy’s leg for the majority of the match, but Hardy fought back with a Mule Kick to Regal, getting back in the contest. Regal ducked a flying forearm attempt from Hardy, as he then whipped Hardy towards the turnbuckles, but Hardy jumped up to the second rope and then to the top rope, before coming down with a Whisper in the Wind, only for it to be dodged by Regal and Hardy landed square on his ass. Regal then lifted the champ up, before getting him in a half nelson, before nailing a Release Half Nelson Suplex, with Hardy landing flat on his chest, as Regal quickly crawled over for the cover, as we may have a new champ! 1...2...NO! Hardy manages to roll the shoulder up, breaking up the fall. Regal is frustrated, as he goes to argue with the referee, as Hardy slowly recovers. Regal makes a signal to Smith on the outside, and with the referee distracted, Smith waits for Jeff to get up before hanging him up on the top rope! Regal stops arguing as he attempts for a knee to the head of Hardy, but Jeff moves and Regal’s unexposed knee smashes the turnbuckle! Regal screams in pain, as Hardy drags him out, before hitting a TWIST OF FATE! 1...2...3! Hardy is successful!
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Jeff Hardy!
Smith and Burchill are furious on the outside, and they go to get in the ring, but Hardy charges at them with his title and they scarper, but not before getting Regal out of the ring and helping him to the back. Hardy goes up to the top rope and celebrates with his title, as JR says that Jeff Hardy has defied the odds here tonight. Hardy continues to celebrate, going up to every top rope and raising his title to a pop from the fans. The victory celebration is cut short, however.
THE LIGHTS GO OUT! The fans erupt in heat, and they get even louder as when the lights come back on, the man that destroyed Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker is in the ring right behind Jeff! Hardy has no idea and is looking at the entrance ramp, before turning around to see if Taker is behind him, and he is met with a huge Big Boot, directly to the face! The crowd erupt in heat, as the Undertaker looks down at the man that defeated him last week.
Undertaker then lifts Jeff up, before putting him in between his legs and raising his right arm, as the crowd pour in the heat. Undertaker then hoists Jeff up so that his legs are resting on his shoulders. LAST RIDE! The Undertaker has sent a direct message to the WWE Champion with the move that he put Shawn Michaels away with, as the show ends with the biker Taker making the belt signal, as the signal fades to black, with the WWE logo comes across the screen.
*End of Show*
