WWE Smackdown
August 5th, 2004

Backstage: NEW GM Theodore Long is standing in front of a Vince picture and an MLK picture side-by-side. He says one man had a dream and the other had a vision, separately they shaped his world and inspired him to dream. Now, every day they inspire him to make Smackdown a better place. He says if you thought last week was good, this week will be better. HOLLA! HOLLA! HOLLA!
#1 Contenders Match for the United States Championship: John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam
So, this gets a ton of time and they continue this lowkey out of nowhere good chemistry they have like it's shockingly good. They work this like it's a big deal, chain wrestling and counters to start, which is neither guy's strong suit, it might be their worse but it's so smooth and crisp like where have these two been for the past 7 months? Both men have a counter for the others signature stuff, so they have to alter their game or come up with stuff on the fly just to get an inch of offense in. Cena starts resorting to some of his old heel stuff to that's fun, he doesn't go full heel but his desperation and facial expressions on not putting RVD away are great. RVD's kicks are nasty tonight, and credit to Cena he was leaning in and eating everything not putting his hands up to block. RVD busts out a sweet legdrop off the top for two, but Cena comes right back with a desperation spike DDT for two. Cena starts getting aggressive with back elbows, he does the 5 MOVES OF DOOM! He heads up top, but RVD stops him with a straight kick to the jaw. RVD hits a superplex but Cena cradles the legs for the inside cradle for the win. I guess Cena got one of his arms up during the pin. ***
Backstage: In the locker room, Booker is pissed that Cena won when Teddy comes in, he says he knows he can beat Cena and Cena can beat him. So he makes this a best of 5 series for the US Title. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! #1 Match at SummerSlam.
Eddie Guererro drives out in a sweet yellow low rider, he has Torrie, Dawn, and Sable with him. He still has Kurt's stuff which is set up in the ring. Eddie says the countdown has started, 10 DAYS TILL HE GETS TO KICK KURT'S ASS! But the auction on wwe.com ends tonight, he gets the girls to sign some of the items. Like the cast which Torrie puts on her leg, the wheelchair and the picture of Kurt that Eddie drew on. Eddie says Kurt will be wrestling for the first time since he beat him at WrestleMania XX, 5 months ago. He talks about how SummerSlam is WWE'S VERSION OF THE SUMMER GAMES~ and promises to leave everyone in the starting blocks. He then shows his Olympic parody commercial where he glued the feet of the competing runners to the starting blocks.
Rene Dupree (w/FiFi) vs. Orlando Jordan
Rene dominates for 99% of the match, but he gets cocky and does the FRENCH TICKLER! But OJ comes off the top with a crossbody for the win.
In the parking lot; WWE CHAMPION JBL pulls up. Josh Mathews goes to interview him, but JBL cuts him off and says he's been speaking around the country, and he's been asked if he's afraid of The Undertaker. Like another great American F.D.R. who went by his initials said, there is nothing to fear but fear itself, and he's going to call out The Undertaker in the ring tonight.
Kurt Angle (w/Luther Reigns) vs. Charlie Haas (w/Miss Jackie)
JESUS! Kurt looks rough like the drugs is making his arms look small while his chest and stuff look ripped. It's weird. Real good mat and counter wrestling exchange to start, I like that Taz and Cole talk up Kurt's ring rust so Charlie might have a chance not only to win the mat wrestling but to win the match. They shift from the wrestling into more of the Kurt/WWE style, I like that Haas is right with Kurt and sometimes one step ahead, as Taz now drops all the ring rust is gone. LOL Losing all the ring rust after 4 minutes, 7 if we're including the commercial. Kurt begins targeting the mid-section with knees and body submissions, Haas doesn't sell because he now doesn't give a fuck IDK! Kurt ends up hitting the Angle Slam, followed by the Ankle Lock for the win. **3/4
RAW REBOUND!
WWE Tag Team Championships: Billy Kidman & Paul London vs. The Basham Brothers
WHY THE FUCK DO THE BASHAMS HAVE A TITLE MATCH? Decent showing for the champs I guess, Bashams are still boring and just meh, and this has way too much Kidman. At least he's selling so he's not completely useless. London has a fun hot tag and debuts his 450 Splash to win.
Backstage: Spike and Rey WALK~!
Heidenreich/Heyman promo
Rey Mysterio & Spike Dudley vs. The Dudley Boyz
This is fine, Spike hurts his knee a minute in after a dropkick so he sells on the floor the entire time. So we get Rey vs. Dudleyz for 4 minutes which is cool. Rey has a couple of nice comebacks, but the numbers catch up to him, they end up hitting the 3D for the win. After the match; Spike hobbles in and helps Rey up, BUT SPIKE KICKS HIM IN THE DICK WITH HIS "HURT" LEG. HE HUGS THE DUDLEYZ! He says to get the tables, and they bring one in. They put Rey on it, and Spike hits Rey with a Double Stomp off the top through the table, and they parade Spike around the ring.
Kinda of a weird time for the heel turn, he already has the title, but whatever, I guess they needed a heel cruiserweight.
WWE Champion JBL is in the ring, he says he use to be one of you Texans but is glad he now lives in NYC. He says he's not afraid of The Undertaker, and he calls him out right here and right now. COME OUT AND FACE THE GREATEST WWE CHAMPION OF ALL TIME! A midget Undertaker comes out lmaolmao JBL keeps talking shit until Mini-Taker enters the ring, he gets in, and JBL says he looks a lot bigger on TV. JBL gets down on his knees to look him in the eyes and says he's not a little wee bit intimidated by him. He makes about 5 short jokes before JBL going for the Tombstone the midget, but the lights go out, and real Taker is in the ring behind him. JBL says he hates midgets and throws it at Taker, who just bumps off the real Taker JBL fake leaves again but Taker doesn't fall for it. He kicks him in the head, but Orlando Jordan comes out and saves JBL WAT!
BUT FUCK ALL THAT! LITTLE TAKER DOES THE TAKER TAUNT NEXT TO THE REAL TAKER <3 2004 IS THE GREATEST YEAR EVER! Taker is not amused so he Chokeslams the little guy.
