WWE RAW 12th November 2012 - Return Of A King LIVE Discussion

Watching the show on DVR, just finished the Punk/King stuff. Fucking despicable, not needed and just way too uncombortable. Should have had Punk come out and rip the breast cancer check a few weeks ago too at this rate.

I will probably get some flack here, but I thought the fake heart attack was funny.

Mind you, I have a sick sense of humor. I read a comic book about a zombie-type infection, that makes people do absolutely anything the human mind can think of, including mass rape, simply for the humor of it.

The only part of RAW worth commenting on was Jerry Lawler's return. I was so pleased to see him back, fit and healthy and back at the commentary table. Now, I thought WWE's decision to have CM Punk come down to the ring along with Paul Heyman and mock Lawler was disgusting, absolutely diabolical and something that should never have happened. Punk should have been man enough to turn around to whoever gave him his script and say "I'm sorry but I'm not sinking that low" instead he clearly enjoyed his segment. Regardless of it being a heel thing to do it was wrong. There are certain lines you don't cross.

 

[Gimmick]

I didn't find Punk's promo towards Jerry Lawler to be that bad. I'm guessing Jerry gave the idea the go ahead, otherwise it wouldn't have gone ahead. I get that some people may have found it distasteful, whether because it can be a rather distressful subject personally or because it was more than likely a tough segment for Jerry to watch, but at the end of the day it's a TV show, touchy scenes like that can be seen any night of the week.

What I did have a major problem with though was the video package they showed before Lawler came out. To think that they had a cameraman film Lawler being treated backstage is just wrong on so many levels.

It was distasteful, but people getting mad at Punk for it That's just what WWE wanted. No he wasn't going to go to Vince and say he wasn't going to do it, Vince had been waiting 9 whole weeks to make fun of Lawler almost dying.

I whole heartedly agree with this. I enjoyed the promo but could have done without the fake heart attack, not because it was distasteful or anything but just because I didn't find it entertaining.

Everytime the WWE showed footage from the night of heart attack I continuously said they shouldn't because it just made it feel more and more like a wrestling angle and not an actual tragedy. It's one thing for the camera man to actually film it all as it unfolded, but it's then a whole different matter for WWE to openly air it. I just think that if the WWE, Jerry or whoever was involved in deciding that the footage is ok to air then I also think that the promo and fake heart attack is fair game, however distasteful some may have thought of it. They could have simply not shown the footage by saying it was too distressing and then have Punk could have cut a more tame promo on the situation.

Actually someone with Punk's power would be in a position to do just that, at the end of the day WWE can't force him to do it.
