With the next gens coming out soon. Which systems do you think are better and does this influence what system (if any) you'll be buying in the future?

I have 2 of the 3 (PS3 and Wii) but have played X-Box and for me it is easily PS3. Just not a big fan of X-Box esp how their online set up is with X-Box live. Wii is fun and a decent work out if you play something like wii sports but I don't play it nearly as much as the PS3. That said with the crazy prices that the next gen shit is going to be probably will be a min before I get a PS4.

To date i've had ever system released but the Dreamcast, Playstation, and any handheld after the DS (Still think the GameGear beats them all). But I've played them all at one point. When the Xbox 360 was released it had more games at the time of release that I liked I don't know what it was but the games were the ones I wanted to have. The online subscription does urk me but I often don't play online games I find most of them to be extremly annoying for the part time gamer. I game on average 5-10 hours a month and thats really stretching it.

I probably will end up buying a next gen. My justification will be the bluray player and features of that nature. Currently the only franchise that I must own is Halo (though Im a fan of GTA) so I'll likely go with the Xbox just depends on the system exclusive games. But like PHX I'll probably be waiting for that price drop after the initial year.

By far, I think the Xbox 360 is better. The Wii was a joke and I hated it. Nintendo killed themselves for me with that. The Wii U wasn't an improvement. I never liked the PS3 and I honestly don't care about Blu-Ray. I can't tell a difference between Standard Definition, HD, or Blu-Ray. They all look the same to me.

Even though I didn't like the PS3, the PS4 look leaps and bounds better then that Xbox One crap. So it's a pretty easy decision that I'll be getting the PS4

Sony easily. I own all 3, and ever since I got my PS3 the only time my Xbox gets turned on is if friends are over and we are playing Risk.

The Wii is a close second.

Well hardware wise it's PS3 hands down. I do find their interface very clunky and the installing games irks me because sometimes I just want to play the damn game right away. Xbox's fan cooling is ridiculously loud unless you install as well. Their paid subscription for Live doesn't bother me much I think that's because I'm used to it. I find its much easier to play with friend on Xbox because no one I know plays PS3 but that's just a personal thing. Wii is a joke. No one should ever buy a Wii unless you have small children or a bunch of friends coming over regularly otherwise it's really bad. Overall I have to say I like the 360 more. The controller is far superior to me. PS3's little controller annoys me and the analog sticks just feel better placed to me on the 360. So my choice is 360 just because of the overall convenience to me. Also .Hollywood. The GameGear is shit haha. 6 or 8 batteries just to power that hunk of crap. I think the Gameboy Advance might be the best handheld gaming device overall with all the awesome games that came out for it.

Should have got the battery packs they powered it for hours on end and acted like handles. But graphics with the back light I think it was superior for a long time.

I don't have a PS3, but I do own an 360 and later bought a Wii. Ignoring next gen for a moment, the 360 would be my pick.

While I don't like Microsoft's attitudes and decisions at times, as a console and especially taking into account the design of the controller (and the ability for it to work on PC's for that matter) I just find it to be the most likeable. Plus, while they don't always have the best "exclusive" games available, I have still enjoyed the Halo series (at least Bungie's games).

The Wii would easily be the weakest IMO. It's ok to dust off once in a while and certainly was fun when it first came out. But some of the design choices are just plain ridiculous IMO. HD makes a difference, having a huge reliance on Wiimotes for practically every game and it being necessary for menus as well as a lot of games pretty much relying on the gimmicks of the Wii make it a bit frustrating. I'm a classic gamer at heart and Wii tries too hard to innovate and without much flexibility. Essentially the actual Nintendo-made games themselves are pretty good (wiimote requirements aside), but many other games just aren't worth it.

As for if it bears any weight on the next gen - nope. I've been ok with 360 for the most part but the Xbox One sounds like a different beast with a different attitude behind it. 360 and PS3 evolved to include more entertainment options but they are still recognizeable as gaming consoles and didn't have half the crap they're forcing down our throats now (particularly the extent to which DRM and motion stuff like Kinect are being considered). These new consoles are apparently forcing a lot of (IMO unnecessary and forced) innovation down our throats from the get go and i'm already feeling alienated. I'm still waiting to see how much respect and attention they've given to gamers like myself as opposed to basing it off being a fan of one company.

I have all 3.

I prefer Xbox and that is the one I use mostly however PS3 is by far the best value for money. £40 a year may not seem like much but it adds up, I've had my xbox 6 years. That's £240 spent on live. It has also had the RRoD twice which took a month and money to send to Frankfurt to fix twice. The disc tray became knackered after about 4 years and is a pain in the ass when you want to switch the game. I suppose if more people had the PS3 I'd use it a lot more, but the majority of my mates have xbox's.

The Wii was good for about a month because it was something different, but then it dawned on you it was nothing special. It is good for parties and party games, and for families that want to play Mariokart or other arcade games. But with the Kinect or the Playstation equivalent, there is now nothing good about the Wii.

Playstation is probably the best, you don't pay for online, however it can be very unreliable and go down for hours on end for maintenance. Installing the games is a pain too and I get lost trying to find the settings sometimes.

Overall I'd say the best was PS3 however the most popular I find is Xbox.

What games have you had to install? I had to install Sacred 2 on the Xbox just so the game would stop freezing every 10 minutes.

Do not own a PS3 but my brother does and I have played it a fair few times, but I do own an Xbox 360 and my vote goes to Xbox 360. Always preferred it over PS3 probably because I'm mainly an online guy and even though you have to pay for Xbox Live, I believe the online service is far superior than the Playstation Network for a few reasons like ow voice communication with friends works and there is much better servers for most games. Here's an example of Microsoft's effort with their service from the next gen conference yesterday: "When Xbox Live launched in 2002, it was powered by 500 servers, then on the Xbox 360 launch it had grown to 3000, and today 15,000, but this year with Xbox One it will grow to an astonishing 300,000 dedicated servers, more than the entire worlds computing power in 1999." I don't find the graphics between Playstation and Xbox much different either. And could care less for a built in blu-ray player. One minor thing I do not like with Playstation is the controller, the Dual Shock is just too small and I don't like the thumbstick positions.

My response probably sounds like an Xbox fanboy response and a bit bias, but I'm going by what I know by the two and I just find Xbox better. And I will once again go with Xbox later this year over Playstation. Xbox One impressed me much more than the PS4 and Microsoft showed A LOT of confidence with the console.

Own 2 of everything, and more than likely continue to do so but I'd say Xbox and its improved with Xbox One; Online experience. Xbox live is just so much better than PSN; every game that launches on both works better on Xbox and its only going to be more noticeable now that every game for Xbox one will be on servers while PS console will either be peer to peer or on the dev to put up a server.

Currently trying to do anything online with WWE 13 on PS3 is a joke, but it works perfectly fine on Xbox 360. People bitch about paying for xbox live but its just so much better and imo, you get what you pay for.

Further more, Hardware superiority will never matter if Devs don't take the time and money to dev it personally for the better console.

I'm not a fanboy of anything, I love video games /end, I buy just about every console but when I think of my best experiences with gaming, it always goes to Xbox.

Hardware matters that much less if:

1) The console in question is confusing or too complex for game developers to take advantage of (there have been many cases of that - I believe the Atari Jaguar was an example) regardless of how much power it boasts.

2) Dev's don't invest enough time in a port or are inexperienced with the hardware (usually earlier in the consoles life).

Perfect example is the port of Quake 4 or even Mass Effect 1 on 360. They're really not the greatest ports (not sure if PC ME1 came first or not though). Both had terrible framerates, but over the course of a consoles life the devs obviously learn a few tricks to get the most out of the console and there's far better looking games and/or more efficient games (as well as Doom 3 BFG Edition).

PS3 is technically the more powerful console, but when it comes down it, it never really mattered too much. Though to be honest in the case of the Wii, I have trouble accepting standard definition after moving up to the HD graphics and for so long now.
