Night and the City (1950). Harry Fabian is a con man who's working a new con. He stumbles upon a pro wrestling show and comes up with a plan: He's gonna get into the wrestling business! Another wrestler attends this show, which is promoted by Cristo, his father the Grecco Roman wrestler Gregorious and with his other son Nicholas storms out in disgust and wants to get back to Athens. Gregorious and his black sheep son Cristo get into an argument. Harry sees this father-son dispute and recruits Gregorious to his stable.
But Cristo runs a monopoly on the wrestling business in London and doesn't want competition. Harry retaliates by provoking Cristo's main draw The Strangler in a bar and tells him he couldn't beat Nicholas. Strangler accepts the challenge. Now, the match of the century is on: The Strangler versus Nicholas. Londoners are going to pay to see the match of a lifetime: Grecco Roman Wrestling vs. Pro Wrestling.
Night and the City touches upon London's seamy underworld where much illicit activity is un-policed. Harry Fabian, in order to get 200 quid to start his wrestling promotion, promises Silver Fox nightclub co-owner Helen that if she pays him 200 quid then he can get her a license to re-open the Flamingo Nightclub. Flamingo was a profitable business which had been closed by police several years ago. Instead, he pays master forger Googlin to forge a license for her so he can get her to fork over the dough. By the time she realizes she's been conned, it's too late.
