The Other Guys (2010)
So I normally avoid Will Ferrell films...but this
was actually pretty good for a Friday night film.

I mean any film with countless running sex gags
is always getting thumbs up from me.

Pacific Rim Uprising (2018)

Okay...so this is only the second time I've watched
this one...and I did this time with audio commentary
by director Steven S. DeKnight.

Now I will admit I still have a TONNE of issues with
the film...the main one being I don't think it needed
to exist in the first place...BUT...I did enjoy it more the
second time around.

I still think the Jaeger & Kaiju designs are extremely
plain & boring and they really needed Charlie Hunnam
to reprise his role...but he's the only actor who didn't
return from the first film.

They also killed off the best character from the first
film...so the cast just feels so empty to me by the
half way point.

I also can't help but feel the film was pandering to
the Chinese audience...and I do understand why...
($$$) it just felt so forced this time around.

I did like a few elements of the film...but they were
quickly killed off/removed early on & the entire film
just falls flat for me.

I suppose DeKnight did a great job with this being
his feature film directorial debut & Cailee Spaeny
was a nice find...but overall...its just an average
sequel to a fantastic film that didn't need one.

I don't even want to add any of the toys from this
film to my collection...that's how average it is.

Lady In The Water (2005)

lady-in-the-water.jpg

Okay...so I've followed M. Night Shyamalan for most of his career...
from The Sixth Sense to The Last Airbender to Split & you can bet
I'll be there opening day when Glass arrives in cinemas...and one of
the main reasons I have followed M.Night through his entire "Hollywood"
career is that to me...even his bad films are at least interesting and at
times...completely fucking insane.

Lady In The Water is one of, if not my all time favorite "bad" film.

A bedtime/fairy tale story that could have worked...but its just so fucking
strange with possibly the weirdest group of characters ever seen on film
crammed together in an apartment complex where everyone is weird,
quirky & possibly suffering from some kind of mental disorder.

We have a Water Nymph, a Wolf/Hyena made of grass, three Great Apes
made of tress, a Giant Eagle acting as a Taxi cab (So...Lord of the Rings
& the Hobbit then?) and M.Night casting himself in the worst possible role
he could.

Goddammit its an absolute mess...

But I still love it.

I can't explain why...I just do.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Now I normally avoid Tom Cruise films...in fact the
last films I watched featuring Cruise were Oblivion
& Edge of Tomorrow & those weren't because he
was in them...but I have to admit it...M.I.F was a
pretty solid film.

I normally don't do spy/espionage films but every
piece of this puzzle fit together worked & I'm happy
I took the time to watch it.

For the record I haven't watched any of the other
films in the series so I'm not sure how it stacks up
against the 5 before it...but it was an enjoyable
watch.

Tombstone, a pretty good Western.
Pretty Good?

I thought it had achieved legendary status...I mean I haven't watched
many Westerns in my 36 years...but Tombstone was epic in nearly every
way.

Kurt Russell is always great...Sam Elliott, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe,
Michael Biehn & most shockingly Val Kilmar actually acting & giving an
amazing performance.

Excuse me Brother Seth...but what Western is better than Tombstone?

And don't say The Good, the Bad & the Ugly...that's an easy way out.

;P

You miss understand me, amigo. Tombstone is one of my favorite Westerns of all time, and what I meant by pretty good is that it is a 7 or 8 out of 10 for me. As for the best Western, to me, it is a tie between Stagecoach, John Wayne's first movie and the one that made him a movie legend, and How The West Was Won as these two films got me into cinema, mainly Westerns at first, and were my grandparent's favorite movies, Stagecoach was my grandfather's favorite on my mom's side and How The West Was Won was my grandfather's favorite on my dad's side.

Also, I am not a big fan of the Dollar movies.

Oh...

Hang on a second...

I'm just adding Stagecoach & How The West Was Won to my
"Films to Watch" list...

Depends?

Give me a Top 5 (besides Tombstone) to work my way though.

1. Stagecoach and How The West Was Won
2. High Noon
3. 3:10 to Yuma and The Magnificent Seven (Orignal versions)
4. My Darling Clementine
5. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid

Not to butt in... but Appaloosa is high on my list of westerns to watch. :emoji_smiley:

*exits thread and closes door behind him*
Appaloosa is a very good Western especially for being made in the 2010s, I believe.

And you once again fit 7 into a list of 5.

I already own Seven Samurai...so do I really
need to see The Magnificent Seven?

Already on the list.

I...I just don't know about this one.

Like most M.Night films it has some chilling moments & solid acting...
and Bryce Dallas Texas Howard is as charming as always...but...I just
don't know how I feel about it.

I've seen it at least five times now & I keep waiting to finally "get it" but
I never do. At least Lady in the Water is weird & quirky...this is just kind
of flat & sombre.
