TNA actually looked to be making progress on this at first and showed Orlando Jordan's bisexuality in a positive light.

Then, in typical TNA fashion, they turned him into a huge fucking smurf. (no offence intended)

I don't see WWE doing anything different, they have ADHD booking and even if they start off with a favourable angle it'll soon turn into Cena making cock jokes and Big Dick Johnson coming out and grinding up guys.

Chuck and Billy's on-screen homosexuality was optimal. WWE presented them as a gay couple but they were face characters so they couldn't do any "extra gay" stuff so people weren't bothered about it. When you look at Orlando Jordan's TNA run they made him into a character I absolutely hated and if WWE'd debut a gay character which would be a heel, they'd make the same mistake as TNA did and everytime the character would show up, we'd be disgusted.

For the record, the Goldust character(just like David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust character he was ripping off) was an androgynist. Meaning he was neither male, nor female(think of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals cover), so in that case, he could only be "gay" with another androgynist.

OJ was a bi-sexual character.

As for the topic, I am sure WWE wants groups like the Westboro Baptist Church protesting outside every event.

And there can not be an openly gay character these days, if he gets beaten up or does something heelish. GLAAD would be up the WWE's ass (no pun intended....OK maybe a lttle pun) about them not projecting good values for gays and shit like that, if they can cry about Vince making a quip about something being kinda gay, then how badly would they lobby against WWE if they had some guy say he was gay and get beat up. Would be pretty fucking foolish if you ask me.

I would say it's not a great idea for the WWE to try based on the nature of the business and their style. The characters they create is a major exaggeration, they often fall back on terrible cliches and stereotypes. Things are cartoonish because they believe subtlety just doesn't work with what they do. Rico is about as subtle as adopting being gay as a gimmick will ever get with the WWE.

Probably better to just continue hiring metrosexual men where their actual sexuality is never part of their gimmick. Let the fans wonder and create their own realities in their head rather than have some cartoonish writing ruin it.

I don't think this is necessary at all. I don't give a shit if someone is gay, that doesn't bother me, I just think it doesn't have to be popping up everywhere just because it is generally being accepted. It would feel forced and stupid to create a character based on sexuality, and you know it will just end up being fucking stupid, anyway. It would be more like a joke than anything.

Agree with most here, the risk outweighs the reward of the character. With all the organizations out there today they would have to tend the line way to closely to make it even effective, face or heel.

They actually made it work with Billy and Chuck for the most part. It only failed when they did the wedding and then had them admit that they weren't actually gay. Before that they presented them really well, they were just two guys who happened to be gay. They weren't presented as weaker or as wimpy, they were still tough wrestlers who didn't like the ladies. But WWE did a very good job of ruining it in the end.

I think that they could get it to work again if they tried hard enough. The key is to not make them over the top flamboyant, just keep them as a normal wrestler who happens to be gay. Nothing over the top and silly and it would work like it did with Billy and Chuck for 90% of their storyline.

Billy and Chuck were never portrayed inheroic fashion, the whole basis of their team was to generate the homophobic heat that littered the audience who watched wrestling.

Homos have always been heels in pro-wrestling. You have an audience of mostly males, who think they are alpha males, they are not going to ever cheer a sissy.

It may be 2013, but let's be honest here, the wrestling fan will not change, and the gay community have no more thick skin and will cry about anything used that may portray them in a negative light, such as heel tactics or selling a beating. marks marks marks the whole lot of them.

There shouldn't be a homosexual "character." However, I see no problem with having a homosexual wrestler. Just because a wrestler is homosexual, it does not mean that there should be a gimmick based on his/her sexual orientation.
