hot take - Benoit is not good enough at anything to bother to go back and watch - there's 100s of better wrestlers in history. he was just a roidhead with explosive moves. i dont see the big deal at all. not like he was even on Eddie's level let alone planet

Strongly disagree but tastes vary. For me, he has multiple matches that strongly border on 5 stars. Probably at least a dozen that are high 4s, debatable 5s. As well, when I was a young'n, his passion was palpable. Not much got me more hype than seeing him lock in the crossface on a monster like Kane or Batista. But, I wouldn't make a point to tell everyone how great he was, at least not outside of this specific context.

He was an ultimate underdog, and I still remember the Mania XX main event, that's what solidified my fandom forever. I do keep mentioning that Benoit's death and the circumstances surrounding it killed my love of wrestling for a long time.
