Hello fellow UWF members. It is I,Cwalker. And as I read some of The Great American Bash trashtalking, it inspired me to give some thought to some of my favorite trashtalking sessions over the course of my career. With that thought came the idea for this column. I call it Outside The Ropes. This is not like any other column though. As you all know, Chris Dresdon has The Dresdon Dose, which is a review of Raw and Smackdown. This isn't going to be a review, so don't worry Chris, I'm not trying to steal any of your thunder. Effectsofraven has his Smackdown interactive column, and although I don't know if that was a one time thing or a continous one, this is something different. This thread is more of a look back at my efed career. Some of my favorite moments, favorite matches, etc. As far as active TTing goes, I consider myself retired, so I wanted to take time to leave sort of an efed diary. There are a couple different topics that I wanted to get into to. I couldn't decide if I wanted to touch on my favorite matches, favorite opponents, favorite Pay-Per Views, but eventually landed on favorite trashtalking. So ladies and gentlemen(pretty sure there are no ladies, but you know what I mean), I give you Cwalker's top ten trashtalking sessions!
Honorable Mentions: Every list needs a few honorable mentions. A few subjects that relate to the topic, but just missed the cut. So before I get to the list, I'm going to give a few honorable mentions.
UWF Raw 2012: Beer Money vs CM Punk & Randy Orton- This is the only UWF match on the list. By this time, I was so out of love with Trashtalking. Anyway, this match was contested by myself playing both members of Beer Monet, SBS playing Randy Orton and of course Itchweed playing CM Punk. It was right before Wrestlemania, so the main focus was on the feud between Punk and Orton. I realized that, so I had to take a backseat. This thread started off as a worked shoot, but eventually evolved into a real one. SBS managed to stay in character, but Itchweed and myself pretty much dropped pipebombs(pretty sure the thread is in the archives somewhere). Topics included my manner in losing the UCW Championship, me being screwed out of the King of The Ring, and CM Punk being the focal point of every UCW and UWF show. I had fun with the thread though despite the breaking of the fourth wall. But at this time, I pretty much knew my efed career was coming to an end. I think after this match, there were only three more matches in my career.
Showdown of Dreams: The Rock vs D'Angelo Dinero- This match would have been high on the top ten if Showdown of Dreams actually happened. Considering we're about a month and a half past the actual date in which the event was supposed to happen, I'm doubtful that it's going to happen. As I've said in the past, I consider Slim the greatest TTer of all-time, so when the dream match premise was brought up, I had to have the one match that I never had. I had to go one on one with The Great One! And it did not disappoint. Slim's still got it. His Rock is still gold despite being away from feds for over a year. It was nice to dust off Pope for one final go round. It's nice to have Slim back the swing of things. I told him before we started trashtalking that I was going to get him to come out of retirement and sure enough, here he is. Nice to have you back bro.
And now The Top Ten!
10. CWA Livewire 2009: Shelton Benjamin vs Randy Orton- Randy Orton is a name that is going to be on this list several times. I previously mentioned Orton played by SBS, but in this case and in the cases to follow, Orton is played by none other than Legendkiller. No offense to SBS, but LK is probably the greatest Orton I've ever seen. At the time of this match, Orton was CWA Champion and my Benjamin was United States Champion. Champion versus Champion is always a big deal and this was no exception. LK is one of my favorite opponents, he never disappoints. Lk's Orton ended up being the "face of the franchise" throughout his time in CWA, but on this night, he fell to the Gold Standard. This was just the first of a really good rivalry between myself and LK.
9. Great American Bash 2011: 4 on 4 Elimination Tag Team Match for the World Heavyweight Championship- This match consisted of John Morrison(myself), Batista(Aniking), Big Show(Prodigy) and Alberto Del Rio(Lewbrication) versus Steve Austin(Chris Dresdon), Kofi Kingston(Blizzard), Paul Burchill(Sam) and sadly I don't remember the eighth and last member of the match. What I do remember is that Lewb had recently won the World Heavyweight Championship and the stipulation for the match was that whichever team survived the elimination tag match would face each other for the World Championship. If I remember the trash talking correctly, our team pretty much ran through the opposing team. At the end of the day, Lewbrication retained his World Championship although I thought Batista should have won. Trash talking with these six guys(sorry for forgetting the seventh) was a fun and unique challenge as not only did you have to go aganist your opponents but you also had to go aganist your partners.
8. No Way Out 2011: Mister Anderson vs Chris Jericho for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship- For those who were a part of UCW, you had to know that the greatest Chris Jericho ever was played by Shane also known as STP. Jericho had cashed in Money in The Bank Briefcase to win the TNA World Championship and I won a battle royal to get a shot at his title. I remember being extremely excited for this match before up to this point, I had never had a one on one World Championship Match. But as most of you know, PWM went down for about a week or two, nixing the No Way Out plans. After the forum recovered, I was disappointed to find out that no matter where the TTing stood, the Impact writers had decided that Shane was going to retain the title regardless and head to Wrestlemania while my Anderson was going to head to the Money in The Bank Match. Ironicially, had the forum not gone down, Anderson would have been in the Money in The Bank while D'Angelo Dinero would have had a one on one match. And who knows? Maybe I never win the UCW Championship. Funny how things work out.
7. UCW Raw 2011: King of The Ring Semi-Finals D'Angelo Dinero vs "Dashing" Cody Rhodes- Before he was grotesque, Rawisrey played "Dashing" Cody Rhodes. And if memory serves me correctly, he was in the middle of a "Dashing" undefeated streak. The King of The Ring tournament was designed to give the winner a World Championship match whenever they want. So bascially it was another Money in The Bank. I remember this was one of the only matches I've ever had that went 4-4. Rey may not remember this, but his Dashing streak was ended in this match. This was one of the most fun threads I had in a while. Sadly I ended up losing in the next round to SBS' Sting, who was having computer issuses at the time, which raised a lot of questions. But this thread was probably the best of the entire tournament.
6. No Way Out 2010: Elimination Chamber Match for the UCW Championship- This match was big for me for a reason. It was my first World Championship match and I was in the match aganist unbelivable opposition. The Champion Edge played by Jay Lesnar defended his title aganist Ryan's Jeff Hardy, Chase's Kurt Angle, Sam's Jack Swagger, Dod's John Morrison and my Billy Gunn. That's right, I challenged for the UCW title as Billy Freakin' Gunn! What meant more to me than the competition was the fact that I didn't have to earn a spot in the match. I was literally handed one which meant the Smackdown guys saw me as atleast one of the top six guys on the brand. I remeber Dod didn't show up for this match as he was in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber as Randy Orton, so it came down to just the five of us. Jay ended up retaining the title although I thought Ryan should have gotten the win. Jay would go one to defend the UCW Championship at Wrestlemania aganist Vita and Bukowski. I think this thread went 2 or 3 a piece which is great for a five man match.
5. Raw 2011: D'Angelo Dinero vs Randy Orton in a Ladder Match for the UCW Championship- LK makes another appearance on the top ten list. LK had just cashed in his Money in The Bank contract to win the UCW Championship from John Cena. Subsequently, Cena won the Championship from me right before Orton cashed in, which is the reason for this rematch. Like I said earlier, LK never disappoints. There were a few different aspects to this match as Orton was in charge of Nexus and I was looking to stop them. I think the trashtalking went three a piece and LK ended up retaining the title in a very good match. I'm not sure, but I think this may have been my and LK's last encounter as LK would go onto Summerslam to defend his Championship aganist SBS' John Cena and Rey's still "Dashing" Cody Rhodes.
4. Wrestlemania 4 2011: Money in The Bank Trashtalking Thread- Myself, #1Hbkfan, Rawisrey, Blizzard, Lubaninho, and The Red. Six men competed in the Money in The Bank Match, all six men got three posts a piece. Not to sound conceited, but I actually knew that I had this one in the bag from the begginning. That doesn't change how awesome this thread was. Blizzard played a very underrated Immortal Jeff Hardy and Rey played an awesome Dolph Ziggler. This match opened Wrestlemania and after I won, I proceeded to cash in on Jack Swagger that night(hey AK, remember that?
). This was a start of a very good run.
3. Extreme Rules 2010: D'Angelo Dinero vs AJ Styles vs The Miz in a Steel Cage match for the UCW Global Title- Rawisrey makes another appearance. This time as The Miz. I never realized that he was on the list more than anyone else. Chase played AJ Styles at the time and he was the defending Champion. This match was important to me because it was my first ever major singles title(I had been Tag Team and Hardcore Champion up to this point). I know EffectsofRaven wrote this match, and I remember it fondly. Ric Flair was Styles' manager and he got involved, only to get split open like a pig. This match was full of spots, including a Skull Crushing Finale from the top of the cage. From my count, it took five Double Knee Facebusters in order for Dinero to win the match and his first ever Championship. For some reason, there was no rematch. I was moved right into a feud with OJR's CM Punk after this.
2. Extreme Rules 2011: D'Angelo Dinero vs Jack Swagger vs Chris Jericho in a TLC match for the UCW Championship- Aniking makes his first appearance on the list as former Champion Jack Swagger(do you really get a rematch if you were Champion for like two minutes?) Either way, Anking, myself and The Lizard King has a great TT session for this match. Jericho got involved by defeating Swagger and Rey's JBL in a triple threat match. It was my first ever World Championship title defense and I must say it was a lot of fun. We actually had a triple threat match right before the Pay-Per-View to decide the stipulation for this match. I won both encounters and sadly AK's Jack Swagger never recovered. After this match, I would lose the UCW Championship to EffectsofRaven at the next Pay-Per-View; Money in The Bank only to win it back eight days later.
1. Vengeance 2011: Mister Anderson vs Stone Cold Steve Austin- I've always said D'Angelo Dinero vs Eddie Guerrero was my favorite feud of all time, but Chris Dresdon still wins for being my favorite opponent. There was so much potential for this feud. The stipulation for this match was that the winner would control Smackdown for a month. I'm not going to lie, if I won, I was so giving myself a World Heavyweight Championship Match. Right before the Vengeance Pay-Per-View though, I retired from feds for a number of reasons, one being I didn't like the direction that the fed was heading. So Austin go the win, but something ruined the storyline and he didn't end up running Smackdown at all. Dresdon ended up in a match aganist aganist Desmond Wolfe and Sheamus at the next Pay-Per-View if I remember correctly. I don't know how he went from one to the other, but it happened. Anyway, this goes down as my favorite TT session of all time.
So there's my top then. Sorry if I come off as a mark for myself throughout all of this, that wasn't my intention. If it was, I would have picked a bunch of matches that I won, but looking back at this list, I only won 5 out these 10 matches. I hope you enjoyed this because I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I'll do another colum next week, this time listing the top 10 TTers of all time. Thanks for reading!
