In Cain defense that was a wicked punch to the back of the head, if he hits him square, might not have got knocked out cold. Fight kind of reminds me of when Serra caught GSP with a similar punch way back.

Pretty much very let down by that fight esp given it was given so much hype and their debut on a big network like FOX. Felt like UFC had to make a really good impression with this and this didn't do it. Didn't want them to fuck around just to make it last but would have rather at least a slugfest the whole first round then it end.

They should've put more than one fight on Fox, it was a HUGE mistake especially now not having more than one fight. They knew it was a possiblity that the fight could've went short and they didn't do anything to prepare for it. Fox and Dana have to be pissed right now.

Yea they failed there, there was no guarantee that they would of had another great fight, but think they where foolish putting it all in on a fight they knew had the potential to end early.

Perfect event. A huge first round knockout, a new champion, it was flawless if you ask me. It could have gone a little longer, but then we're stepping into the WWE version of things, the fighters aren't going to purposely make it longer.

Agree as I personally didn't have a problem with how it went down. From UFC and FOX though, it had to be not what they wanted though with this being a platform for them to introduce the sport to new fans. Is what it is though and I think they'll have more than one fight on the card going forward. Besides that the production values where good, and everything had a nice flow to it, need to ditch the FOX Football music though.

In Australia we were shown Guida vs. Henderson, then this title fight, then Demarques Johnson getting a KO victory. It sounds like it was broadcast differently in the US even though Australia was supposedly getting a live feed.

It was a disappointing performance by Velasquez. After he got hit I hoped that he would have been able to defend on the ground for some time so he could get his balance back. I didn't expect him to go so easily even after that first massive hit. Well done to Dos Santos and I hope this sets up the Dos Santos/Lesnar fight that we didn't get to see from the Ultimate Fighter.

Industry sources have confirmed that the UFC on FOX title bout between Cain Velasquez and new champ Junior Dos Santos peaked with 8.8 million viewers on the FOX network. That makes the fight the most-watched MMA fight in U.S. television history.

Within three minutes of the bout’s conclusion, the audience dwindled to 5.9 million viewers and overall, the event averaged 5.7 million viewers

At least they broke that record then. No surprise that viewers tuned out once it was over, most just wanted to see the fight.

This past weekend's UFC on FOX event officially drew an attendance figure of 11,607 and a live gate of $1,072,187, California State Athletic Commission officials today confirmed with www.mmajunkie.com

Those figures are down slightly from the announced fight-night estimates (14,019 and $1.1 million).

Additionally, with approximately 1,700 unsold tickets, the event fell short of sellout status.

Featuring a heavyweight title fight between new champion Junior Dos Santos and former beltholder Cain Velasquez, "UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos" marked the UFC's live debut on network television and served as a teaser to the two companies' seven-year deal, which officially begins in 2012.

Only the main event, which saw Dos Santos earn a 64-second victory, aired on FOX. The entire undercard streamed on Facebook and FOXSports.com.

Of the 11,607 attendees, a total of 1,743 received free/complimentary admission. That results in average paid ticket price of $108.70.

As a comparison, October 2010's "UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez" event, which also took place at Honda Center, officially drew 14,856 attendees for a live gate of $2,237,070.

Despite a self-reported meniscus injury suffered 10 days prior to his title-winning fight over Cain Velasquez, heavyweight Junior Dos Santos is OK to fight, according to medical suspensions issued for this past Saturday's UFC on FOX event.

Dethroned champ Velasquez was suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days as the result of his knockout loss.

MMAJunkie recently requested and today received the suspensions from the California State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the event.

UFC on FOX took place Nov. 12 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Its one-fight main card aired live on FOX and marked the organization's long-awaited network-television debut.

Additionally, co-main-event competitors Ben Henderson and Clay Guida received no sanctions despite a frenzied three-round fight.

Significant suspensions were issued to Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, who was outpointed by Darren Uyenoyama on the event's preliminary card, as well as preliminary-card fighters Aaron Rosa and Paul Bradley.

The full list of UFC on FOX suspensions includes:

  • Cain Velasquez: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for TKO loss
  • Clay Harvison: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for TKO loss
  • Norifumi Yamamoto: Suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact due to possible left-finger fracture; can be cleared early by a physician
  • Darren Uyenoyama: Suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact due to left-eye laceration
  • Mackens Semerzier: Suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact due to scalp lacerations; suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact for precautionary reasons
  • Paul Bradley: Suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact due to possible left-elbow fracture; can be cleared early by a physician
  • Aaron Rosa: Suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact due to a possible left-wrist fracture; can be cleared early by a physician
