What the fuck is Dana doing bringing up shit from years ago to justify a title shot.

A win over Kevin Randlemann years ago means nothing to why hes #1 contender in 2012.......all this while Bonnar has reeled off 4 wins in a row ffs.

Jones has been basically laughing at all this on Twitter.

Here's what Dana meant to say i guess. Still doesn't changed the fact that Vera could end up with a title shot though.

"Whoever wins the most impressively on Saturday night gets the shot at the title," White said in an interview with USA Today. "I put together the fights that fans want to see. The fans didn't like the Rua and Vera choice, so here it is: The guy that wins most impressively on Saturday night out of the co-main event and the main event will get the shot at the winner of Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson."

The leaves Vera in the mix, which in and of itself is a curious choice given his sole win in the last three years. But White says this is just that right type of opportunity, and if he outperforms the other three men vying for that spot on Saturday night, the UFC will give him that rematch with Jones.

"There's no doubt that Vera is getting the opportunity of a lifetime," White said. "He's getting the opportunity of a lifetime, but we'll see what happens. We'll see if he makes the most of it."

So pretty much what we have a chance for is...

Jones/Shogun II, Jones/Machida II, Jones/Bader II, or Jones/LOLHAHAHA Vera II

I'd say Shogun has the best chance of gettin a rematch...

but dang it... Jones still has to survive Hendo. I'm not overlooking Hendo. I'm not. But just seeing that is kinda funny. All these guys he already beat and they have a chance at a rematch.

Yeah I'd bet Shogun gets the title fight next, Bader/Machida will be good but will likely end up with a decision while i honestly see Shogun winning by KO in the first round.

Hopefully, the guy is such a bum.

Also this is going to be interesting, they're going to start using a Ref Cam at this show.

Shogun has it nailed on IMO.

Machida/Bader is a horrible styles clash and can't imagine either looking good in winning, whereas the Shogun fight is a glorified sparring session. Vera might as well get the pads on and hope Shogun takes mercy on him.

Machida could pull something out of the hat. It was thought that the Machida/Couture fight was a bad matchup and then he pulls out the karate kick and KOs him.

But Shogun def has the best chance. I mean Vera was released after he got destroyed by Thiago Silva before he got caught cheatin with... was it horse steroids? Or horse pee or something. So yeah Vera def gettin axed after this. But I think Machida/Bader is going to be an interesting fight to watch. But Shogun comes in like he did against Forrest... mannnn Shogun definitely gettin the next fight.

LOS ANGELES — Oddsmakers aren't giving UFC on FOX 4 headliner Brandon Vera much of a chance against former champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, but UFC President Dana White thinks "The Truth" might be primed to offer a big surprise.

"This guy has been publicly smashed by the fans, the media — I mean everybody is just hammering this guy," White said. "That's the type of thing that motivates a guy. Before Thursday's press conference, he told me, 'Thank you so much for this opportunity. I have never, ever been this motivated. I've never had so many people talk so much trash about me.'"

Vera (12-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and Rua (20-6 MMA, 4-4 UFC) meet in the main event of UFC on FOX 4 on Saturday at Staples Center. Four main-card fights air on FOX (8 p.m. ET) following six preliminary-card bouts on FUEL TV (5 p.m. ET).

The original announcement of the matchup, especially its headlining status and potential championship implications, left many questioning the UFC's logic.

Rua is just 2-3 in his past five fights, but those bouts have been against the sport's very best fighters. The Brazilian's loss to Dan Henderson in 2011's fight of the year, for example, is worth a pass.

Vera, meanwhile, has notched just two UFC wins in the past three years, which raises questions about his worthiness as a headliner in a major network-televised event.

Vera said he recognized the value of what he'd been given and promised to make good on his end of the deal.

"The UFC gave me a great opportunity," Vera said. "People wait their whole lives for a moment like this — one moment — and it's been given to me. I'm not going to squander this. I'm not going to throw it away."

White, who admits Vera hasn't fulfilled the potential that once had the Filipino American pegged as a future champion, thinks UFC on FOX 4 could prove the fighter's opportunity to silence the naysayers.

"It's all about opportunities in life," White said. "Every once in a while, a great opportunity comes along, and you have to go grab it. I think the opportunity and the humiliation of people saying 'you don't deserve it' has lit a fire under that kid."

UFC on FOX 4's co-main event pits former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida (17-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) and Ryan Bader (14-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC). The four co-headliners are all vying for a shot at the winner of September's title fight between current champion Jon Jones and top contender Henderson. White said whoever wins "most impressively" Saturday gets the title shot.

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (205) vs. Brandon Vera (203.8)
Lyoto Machida (201) vs. Ryan Bader (205)
Joe Lauzon (155.8) vs. Jamie Varner (156)
Mike Swick (170) vs. DaMarques Johnson (171)

PRELIMINARY CARD (FUEL TV)
Cole Miller (145) vs. Nam Phan (145)
Phil Davis (205.5) vs. Wagner Prado (205)

It was strange that Machida came in at 201, and he was asked about it after the weigh ins and hinted that he's was going to be dropping to 185 if he couldn't get a title shot at LHW.

Whats the point in Machida dropping if him and Anderson are buddy'd up and won't fight?
