what was the issue with matt riddle first name

Not trademarkable I'd assume. Or there's that theory that they changed his name to prevent the allegations from being the top hit on Google but I don't really buy that bc I doubt they care a) and if you Google "Riddle WWE" they'd still be there b)

Tbh some changes I do like. I actually think Cesaro sounds better than Antonio Cesaro. Antonio Cesaro is a very wordy name.

For Theory I hated it because as you guys said, Theory is a regular word so it sounds weird to have that be your only name. Same thing for Matt Riddle. Riddle by itself sounds so dumb as a name. Put Matt in front of it and it softens it.

Like there's a select few where it's worked but they were also barely referred to as their full names officially too (Goldberg, Batista come to mind)

Imagine if Vince was on this name shortening kick 20 years ago and the man known only as CENA was a 16 time World Champion

People googling him

I feel like the trademarking is more their thing, this always felt like dirt sheets conjecture to me lol especially since it happened after the Keith Lee stuff with his name

What if they would have billed him as just RKO :heston

Oh but that does remind me of the greatest name shortening ever: Hunter Hearst Helmsley to Triple H

Another example of a good name change. And I think it’s one people forget about…

Initially, he was known as “Kane The Undertaker”

Yeah I think they even edited the home video release of his debut to cut out any references of "Cain" (i think they spelled it that way?) And that's the version on the network so it's like completely forgotten

Could’ve been spelled that way cause I know that’s Pritchard’s kids name and I think he spells it like that

The funny thing was that when they first did he would be referred to as “Triple H” Hunter Hearst Helmsley so it was actually longer :lol Finally they just went with Triple H. Same thing with The Rock. For a while he was announced as “The Rock” Rocky Maivia

I tried to tell y’all he’s been a heel this whole time.

Man admitted to killing his parents and nobody batted an eye

I'd probably say no bc the Kane lore didn't come into play for like 7 whole years later so it probably has nothing to do with Taker originally being called "Cain" but the original basis for the Kane story until Russo and others retconned it a ton with the swerves bro could fit
