The reason being "Vince is senile" worked well bc it was the same on screen and off too

Austin Theories name shortening was my favorite name shortening ever simply because they game a reason that actually made sense.
It doesn’t really make sense though lmao. If you don’t know the difference between Austin theory and stone cold Steve Austin you’re a dumbass

But it makes perfect sense bc Vince is the one that said it on screen. It doesn't have to make sense to you, it just has to be believable to you that it makes sense to Vince lol

See my issue with name shortening is it sounds fine when the commentators are saying it but when the announcers are introducing them, it sounds dumb as fuck.

Fair enough. But with that logic I should’ve accepted the last 7 years of bad storytelling :lol

Yeah that's always been my logic lol I'm not gonna say "Austin Theory" every time I refer to him but that doesn't mean you officially shorten the name lol

I say "Kofi" 99% of the time but I don't want that to be his ring name over "Kofi Kingston"

Yeah him being announced as Theory is dumb. Being called Theory by the commentators is fine because that’s how 95% of the IWC knows him anyway

Like there's a select few where it's worked but they were also barely referred to as their full names officially too (Goldberg, Batista come to mind)

Imagine if Vince was on this name shortening kick 20 years ago and the man known only as CENA was a 16 time World Champion

Dropping the “Alexander” from Rusev’s name worked for me.

Most of them were misses but there were some good ones

I'd say this was tolerable but I still saw 0 point, Cesaro was another one. I've never really disliked any until we got "Theory" and "Riddle" bc those are hilarious as standalone ringnames but I always thought it was just weird

Dropping Big E's last name probs the only one I'd say was "good"

Or an old man is having PTSD based on years of abuse from a guy named Austin? Again I'm all but certain Vince said this (maybe not PTSD specifically but he said that the "Austin" part of his name reminded him of Stone Cold).

I'm not saying it was a good idea. I hated shortening the name because Theory is a regular word. But unlike virtually every other name shortening this one had a reason behind it, which made the act of doing it better. Better than just hearing "Big E" without the Langston, "Cesaro" without the Antonio, "Rusev" without the Alexander, etc.

It was also after Mania right? So Austin was again fresh on Vince's mind lol I can def buy it, they should have ran an angle where Vince forced him to change his first name to something tho

If not the next day it was a week later.

And yeah him and Riddle needed new first names instead of going by a noun.
