I genuinely think Cody convinced himself of this when no one that was an AEW fan would have given a shit if he won the title. We wanted him to turn heel and win the damn thing, in fact.

I honestly give it a 51/49 that he does go back at some point. Though looking at his age, maybe not. Unless he wrestles into his 50s because IF he went back, I think it be 10 years from now which would make him 48, so I guess just shy of his 50s then.

Cody all around did a pretty bad job of reading the room from the point of the Jericho feud onward. Which is a shame, because he was cutting some amazing promos still to that point.

In hindsight, probably would’ve been best to say he can’t challenge for it for like a year, if he wanted to not challenge for it. At least then after a year you could feel out how people would feel about you winning it.
