Piper was an excellent promo but he never really stayed in the WWF long enough to do much of note. Many of his feuds were never blown off due to his frequent comings and goings, Rick Rude and Bad News in particular.
During one of his many returns in the mid 90s, they suddenly started giving him the legend and "one of the all-time greats" treatment. This is kind of where they lost me on Piper.
Thinking back I prefer Piper as a heel. He still has plenty of charisma as a face and there are moments I enjoy. Its just some of his random comments in interviews which just seem gibblish that I don't find entertaining. Plus he went a bit OTT at times. I liked his run as WWF President and feud with Goldust. Also enjoyed his WCW run for the most part. His face character there was more grounded. But still had a bit of the Piper wildness.
