Consumer prices overall increased 2.7% from a year ago, up/down from 2.6% in October, according to the Labor Department’s consumer price index, a popular measure of goods and services costs. That’s the second increase following six straight declines and it leaves annual inflation moderately above the Fed's 2% goal. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected a bump to 2.7%

On a monthly basis, costs rose 0.3%, the most since April.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have charged two star luxury real estate brokers and their brother with participating in a sex trafficking conspiracy. They are accused of drugging, sexually assaulting and raping dozens of women, according to an indictment made public on Wednesday.

The three are Oren Alexander, his older brother Tal Alexander, who until this summer were real estate agents in New York and Miami, and Alon Alexander, Oren’s twin, who did not work in real estate.

They were arrested at various residences in and near Miami Beach on Wednesday. The twins also face separate state felony charges of sexual battery connected to three separate assaults, according to arrest warrants obtained by The New York Times.

The F.B.I. director, Christopher A. Wray, told bureau employees on Wednesday that he intended to resign in January, bowing to the reality that President-elect Donald J. Trump had publicly declared his desire to replace him.

The announcement comes after Mr. Trump said in late November that he intended to nominate Kash Patel, a longtime loyalist, to run the F.B.I., and more than two years before Mr. Wray’s 10-year term would have expired.

His resignation would likely mean that Paul Abbate, the deputy F.B.I. director, would run the bureau at least until the end of April, when he is set to retire.
