Dead wrong. A ton of Americans and Europeans have joined the app. I've been talking to a lot of Chinese people on there. It's fascinating learning about their country directly from the source. They are pretty open about the policies of their government, good and bad. Tbh, the US government is worse in many ways, better in some others. Many things said about China are blatantly false though.
In China it's a fairly niche app mostly used by middle class people, i.e tech workers. They're very well educated and are critical of their government in ways that would surprise you. The idea that the Chinese government would want to boost this app is pretty laughable if you've actually used it and talked to people on there.
