I think the main reason (and this is some actual conspiracy theory) that a lot of thw US sits on its hands is because a lot of the people in power are Kompromats - in government and private enterprise. in my eyes, Trump and Elon Musk being the biggest two assets for Russia atm (that we know of publicly)

Ultimately tho to address Sabs's point about Putin not being taken out yet, he hasn't done anything to actually hurt the position of the KGB. They're still in power, the US and other NATO countries are hesitant to engage in a direct conflict, and Ukraine, while heavily resistant, still has lost some ground.

KGB are pretty comfortable keeping Putin in power much in the same way the Communist Party of China is happy to keep Xi Jingping in power.

Things could definitely change though.
