they were pretty anti-trump until he got the nomination in 2016 too from what I remember

Nah the run-up to 2015 and running into the 2016 election they were pretty much pro-Jeb Bush and thought Trump running was hilarious (since he had done so in 2000 as a Democratic independent). And then he won the nomination and they changed their tune immediately. Sung their praises, convinced everyone that they were always pro-Trump.
