It's not any Supreme Justice's place to say tho tbf. That is a matter for the Senate and the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court's only job is to interpret and enforce the law, not enact laws.
Exactly. But that’s the point. If congress tries to step out and pack the court, appointing a justice that would be friendly on that might be helpful.

I'd still think it is irrelevant what their personal opinions on court expansion is.

I’m more personally frightened by a single party trying to pack the courts than possibly irrelevant questions, tbh.

I don’t think it is irrelevant, but we can agree to disagree.

So the NDP proposed to give the Liberals support until 2024 in exchange for pushing through nationalized social programs. Rather huge for a lot of Canadians as first one is nationalized dental care for families making under 90k a year

And that is why third parties can be important even if they don't win! If the "main" parties are willing to swallow ego and negotiate with a third party with similar views but big ideas that they normally wouldn't implement, big things happen. That is why we have the healthcare we have now.

its not perfect, but this is exactly what working together looks like, and I'm all for it. Minority goverments are a GOOD thing and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops. im rather certain a minority goverment with ndp support gave way to nationalized healthcare in the first place, too , way back when

The only thing I dislike about Minority governments really is the potential for ego to get involved and either frequent elections (to a point where it hurts the ability to get stuff done) or some trickery ala what Harper did in prorogue government to avoid a Coalition. (Though once in a while I get if there is an extreme circumstance) But if there is some ego swallowed, then it can work well.

agreed, elections every 2 years or less is frustrating for the voters, not to mention it gets expensive (and one of the reason, lets be honest, that the NDP do NOT want another election soon with their own coffers empty).

But this is some very savvy work by Singh and the NDP and is exactly how you use your position for the greater good of canadians. and its win win for both parties as now the NDP get to take credit for these social programs in hopes to bolster their numbers in 2025.

The CPC will cry but they easily could have worked out a deal with the Liberals to push their own programs too, but they are a bit too busy being entrenched in outrage culture and screaming about freedoms instead of coming up with actual policy that is good for all canadians.

again, well played NDP and Singh, I love this play

Singh is a smart guy. Good play. Even the Liberals can try to spin it to get support from them to show "Hey, we are willing to work alongside others for the betterment of Canadians"

And yeah, the CPC is too busy pretending to be constitutional experts, bickering between each other about whether to go farther right into Looneyville or to move back to a reasonable area a bit closer to center, and just being ineffective than being a good opposition.

And an aside, my Uncle shared a Facebook post from Andrew Sheer complaining about Gas prices by photoshopping "Don't vote liberal" to a news piece about ways to save money for Gas. I replied:

"Or MAYBE, the higher gas prices are a result of the market and the fact one of the largest producers of oil in the world is engaged in war with their neighbours doing human rights violations by the hour and the entire world is like "HEY, DON'T DO THAT!" and now they are being sanctioned to shit!"

Like fucking hell, so many people are going "Oh, it is Biden's fault," or Trudeau. Like there is a TINY argument to be made here since we have a Carbon tax, but it doesn't result in that extreme of a spike which is resulting in countless other countries without one.
