So...the WWE will (hopefully) be having their women's tournament later this year and
I for one am very excited about it. Now not many details about said tournament have
been revealed yet...but it is only March and I'm sure the WWE is fully focused on
Wrestlemania at this point in time.
Not me...I'm thinking about the women's tournament and the future of the entire WWE
women's division
So if you'll allow me...I would now like to list my:
~Top 10 Performers I'd Like To See in the WWE Women's Tournament~
Now...I just want to clarify that this is complete wishful thinking and fantasy
booking on my part and I'm sure that most of the women on this list will not
be involved in the tournament...but...its nice to dream and be positive about
wrestling.
When putting this list together I looked at these women not only as performers
but also took into consideration their appearance and how they would add variety
and diversity to the entire WWE Women's roster.
I'm also making this list knowing that unless a performer has actually been trained
on how to "work" on WWE TV (mainly for camera locations) that most performers
would need time in NXT before being drafted to either RAW or SmackDown.
So...with that long introduction out of the way...here is my list:
~Young Guns~ (Because the WWE needs to build for the future)
1). Tessa Blanchard
Age: 21
Debut: 2014
Has worked for: Shine, NXT
Pros:
~ A third generation wrestler
~ Previous NXT experience
~ Her age
Cons:
~ Lack of experience
Well...we all know the WWE loves legacy stars...and in the women's division we have
Charlotte, Natalya & Tamina. I would very much like to see Tessa added to that list.
Much like Deonna Purrazzo...Tessa is very young and could be seen as a long term
investment and the future of the women's division. Also...WWE should sign her partner.
Booking Idea:
Much like Deonna Purrazzo...it really is too early to say...as she would need at least
3 years in NXT before a main roster call up.
2). Rachael Ellering
Age: 24
Debut: 2015
Has worked for: Shine, NXT, TNA/Impact
Pros:
~ A third generation wrestler
~ Previous NXT experience
~ Her age
Cons:
~ Lack of experience
You could pretty much copy my short write up on Tessa Blanchard and paste it here...
another young legacy star who with time and training could be a future cornerstone
of the WWE women's division.
Booking Idea:
Well...if the WWE signs both Tessa & Rachael...they could have them run together
in NXT much like Peyton Royce & Billie Kay.
3). Deonna Purrazzo
Age: 22
Debut: 2013
Has worked for: Ring of Honor, TNA/Impact, NXT/WWE
Pros:
~ Previous NXT/WWE experience
~ Her age
Cons:
~ Lack of experience
If the WWE is truly trying to build for the future then Deonna should not only be in
this tournament...but she should be signed to a full time, long term deal. Not only
does she have solid in-ring skills but she is only 22 years old. One would guess
she has at least 10 years of wrestling left in her and she is only going to get better.
Deonna could be the future of women's wrestling.
Booking Idea:
I have nothing for Deonna...only her main roster debut should be a victory over
Alexa Bliss.
4). Jade/Mia Yim (Real Name: Stephanie Bell)
Age: 27
Debut: 2009
Has worked for: CZW, Shine, Shimmer, TNA/Impact, NXT/WWE
Pros:
~ Strong in-ring skills
~ Previous NXT experience
~ A willingness to be involved in extreme/weapon based matches
~ A Unique look/appearance
Cons:
~ I...I honestly can't think of one...why hasn't she signed with the WWE already?
Jade is a fantastic worker and her recent TNA/Impact feud with Rosemary showed
she would be willing to help push women's wrestling forward. She has a great look,
a stunning physique, strong in-ring skills and she has appeared on WWE TV before...
as a rosebud and she even wrestled Charlotte on an episode of NXT (December 4th 2014).
Jade has also recently left TNA/Impact and is currently a "free agent" so it appears that the
timing might be perfect for Jade to truly arrive in the WWE.
Jade comments on her Impact Wrestling departure - Diva Dirt
Booking Idea:
I honestly can't think of anything specific...see performer number 7 for an actual idea.
~Oddballs~ (Because variety is the spice of life)
5). Rosemary (Real Name: Holly Letkeman)
Age: 33
Debut: 2008
Has worked for: Shimmer, TNA/Impact
Pros:
~ Adept at actually playing a "character"
~ A unique look never really seen before in the WWE
~ A willingness to be involved in extreme/weapon based matches
Cons:
~ Her look/character may-be seen as "too dark" for the WWE in the PG-Era
~ Her age
~ Will be less effective without Crazy Steve & the Monster Abyss
And speaking of adding something unique...having Rosemary in the WWE would be
incredibly interesting considering how down right insane/intense her character is.
Now Nikki Cross is "somewhat" similar simply by the fact she acts and fights like a
crazy, homeless person...but Rosemary is on a completely different level.
Her in-ring skills are solid enough and she has shown a willingness to work in cage
and weapon based matches which would be important in pushing the women's division
forward.
Just imagining her possible interactions with the ladies of the WWE has me both excited
and terrified at the same time.
Booking Idea:
After some time in NXT Rosemary could stalk her way onto the main roster with one clear goal...
erasing the brightest light in the women's division...Bayley. A true clash of good & evil, light &
dark, life & death.
A possible romantic angle with the Demon King would also make for some interesting television.
6). Veda Scott (Real Name: Lindsey Kerecz)
Age: 33
Debut: 2011
Has worked for: Shimmer, Ring of Honor, TNA/Impact
Pros:
~ A Quirky personality
~ Great mic skills
~ A Unique look/appearance
Cons:
~ Lack of experience
~ Her age
When compared to the current crop of female performers in WWE...Veda Scott is
just so...different. She has a quirkly personality, a high IQ and overall a very
unique "body type". Her in-ring skills are solid and would only improve given some
time in NXT.
I honesty don't really have much more to say...Veda is a likeable and bubbly performer
who would add something unique and different to the WWE.
Booking Idea:
Using her legal training and intelligence to be introduced as a legal representative of
a performer may allow her to get over using her bubbly personality and mic skills.
~Veterans~ (Because it never hurts to have some established names involved)
7). Gail Kim
Age: 40
Debut: 2000
Has worked for: TNA/Impact, WWE
Pros:
~ A true legend of the industry
~ Previous WWE experience
Cons:
~ Her age
Now I understand that Gail has a lot of history with the WWE and she isn't the
youngest performer out there...but I still believe she would be a fantastic addition
to the WWE women's division. The potential for "dream matches" against Sasha Banks,
Becky Lynch, Charlotte & Asuka are all exciting possibilities for long term fans and even
if the WWE doesn't have her wrestle full time...a job behind the scenes in NXT/Developmental
would allow Gail to pass on her skills and knowledge to the next generation of female performers.
Its also interesting to note that Gail is currently unsigned as of me posting this piece.
Gail Kim reveals she is not under contract with Impact Wrestling - Diva Dirt
Booking Idea:
I could see Gail becoming an ally and mentor to Bayley or even someone like Liv Morgan...
but if I had my way...her and Jade would be introduced as mentor and student as Gail pushes
Jade to ascend to the highest level in the biggest wrestling company in the world.
8). Awesome Kong/Kharma (Real Name: Kia Michelle Stevens)
Age: 39
Debut: 2002
Has worked for: Shimmer, Ring of Honor, TNA/Impact, WWE
Pros:
~ A true legend of the industry
~ Previous WWE experience
~ A Unique look/appearance
Cons:
~ Her age
Unfinished Business...plain and simple. Kharma unfortunately never got out of the
blocks in her first WWE run...an unplanned pregnancy and the painful aftermath
ruined what could have been one of the most devastating runs by any female
performer in WWE history. Now I do understand her best years are behind her...
but if used the right way in the tournament and possibly on the main roster...
Kharma could still make a huge impact and pass the torch so to speak to another
young WWE star.
Booking Idea:
"The Second Coming of Kharma" would have her teaming up with Nia Jax and literally
destroying anyone and everyone in their way forcing the other female performers to
band together (Led of course by Bayley) to survive and eventually vanquish Kharma
and break up the destructive Duo. It would be a short, sharp run that would give Nia Jax
some much needed experience and guidance.
9). Sexy Star (Real Name: Dulce Maria García Rivas)
Age: 34
Debut: 2006
Has worked for: AAA, Lucha Underground, Shimmer
Pros:
~ She's Sexy Star...isn't that enough?
~ 10 years of experience
~ A Unique look/appearance
~ A willingness to bleed and suffer for the "sport"
Cons:
~ Her English isn't the best
~ Her age
~ Was passed on by WWE once before
~ Is currently training to become a boxer
Sexy Star has smashed so many "glass ceilings" in Lucha Underground that she commands
respect. While she may lack technical in-ring and English language mic skills...she has fire
and passion and would no doubt be a great "big name" addition to the WWE roster. Sexy
being in the Women's tournament would definatley add some marquee value at the very least.
I know this ain't happening...but its my list so deal with it.
Booking Idea:
Sexy Star vs. Sasha Banks in an I Quit Match...enough said.
10). Sara Del Rey (Real Name: Sara Amato)
Age: 36
Debut: 2001
Has worked for: Shimmer, Chikara, Ring of Honor, NXT
Pros:
~ Is currently employed by the WWE
~ 15 years of experience
Cons:
~ Her age
Yes...I want the NXT assistant head coach in the tournament and I want her to kick some ass!
Sara Del Ray was never afforded an opportunity to shine on the biggest stage in pro-wrestling...
but in my opinion...even at 36 years of age...it isn't too late.
Booking Idea:
A short main roster feud with anyone of the 4 horsewomen would be amazing to see.
Well...there is my list and my reasons...but I really want to know is who would you like to
see the Women's Tournament and hopefully sign a contract with the WWE?
Thanks for taking the time to read this...any thoughts, opinions, feedback or abuse are
always welcome...and I will see you all around the traps.
I for one am very excited about it. Now not many details about said tournament have
