The House Ethics Committee met Wednesday but did not release its report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), resisting significant pressure to release its findings after President-elect Trump selected the controversial Florida Republican to be his attorney general.

“There is not an agreement by the committee to release the report,” Ethics Chair Michael Guest (R-Miss.) told reporters following a roughly two-hour meeting.

The development caps off a week of speculation regarding the committee’s work, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle pushing for its publication, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) vigorously advocating for it to remain a secret, and Trump’s team charging ahead with the selection of Gaetz despite the drama.

Details from the report could make their way to the public — or to senators considering Gaetz’s nomination — anyway.

Some of the evidence and testimony reportedly on file with the committee has been leaked to ABC News, and a lawyer for two women who he says spoke to the Ethics Committee has been publicly saying that they told the panel they saw Gaetz “having sex with a minor” at a party.

House Ethics Committee investigators probing sexual misconduct allegations against former congressman Matt Gaetz obtained records showing that he paid more than $10,000 to two women who testified before the committee, according to a person familiar with the investigation who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive material.

The records that were exhibited during closed-door testimony displayed 27 PayPal and Venmo payments disbursed between July 2017 and January 2019 totaling over $10,000 paid to the two witnesses, that person said. Some of the payments were for sex, the witnesses testified to the committee. ABC News first reported on the exhibits.

The news comes as the House Ethics Committee declined to release its report probing sexual misconduct allegations against Gaetz (R-Florida), after a closed-door meeting Wednesday, as President-elect Donald Trump’s embattled attorney general pick attempted to sell himself on Capitol Hill to skeptical GOP senators.

Matt Gaetz said Thursday he is withdrawing his name from consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general.

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many,” Gaetz said in a statement posted on his X account.

“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” said the former Republican congressman from Florida.

“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” he said.

Pa. Senator Bob Casey concedes to Dave McCormick

Senator Bob Casey has conceded in the race for reelection to the U.S. Senate to Republican Dave McCormick.

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey has conceded to Republican Dave McCormick in the race for his re-election to the U.S. Senate.

The senator sent out a statement in which he said that he called McCormick to congratulate him.

Casey said that he is proud of the work he and his team have done while in the Senate and during this recent election cycle. He thanked his families, supporters and staff.

This announcement comes just days after the state of Pennsylvania began the process of recounting ballots due to the slim margin between the two candidates.

Pennsylvania's Supreme Court weighed in on the process by ordering counties to not count mail-in ballots that lack a correct handwritten date on the return envelope.
