Fair enough point. I do think it would be much easier if wwe just made rusev take a massive shit on the troops, that would make cena snapping more beliavable IMO.

People are such marks when it comes to Cena's character and actions. It is no wonder WWE refuses to turn him heel when you are all obsessed with his face character
I'm not obsessed, i'm intrigued. Like I said before, I enjoyed the segment. I'm not highly upset with the writers or anything like that. If Dean Ambrose went to the ring waving a USA flag and giving a tearful speech I may or may not like it, but it will still make me ponder about him going off-character and if its lazy writing or something else.

Yeah, I said awhile back that Rusev attacking and decimating Cena and then draping the Russian flag over his body while members of the Armed Forces were in attendance watching would be a great segment that made things really personal.

Cena wasn't close to being injured, he didn't show any signs of injury the night after. Hell, he walked backstage after the match like nothing had happened once he was on his feet.

And yes I am saying that Cena vs Rusev isn't personal, because it hasn't been presented as such. This isn't about Cena vs Rusev, or about the US title even. And hasn't been since Steph started the whole "mania without Cena" thing, at that moment it became about Cena finding a spot at mania at any means necessary.

You don't have your top face do stuff like this. Hogan didn't choke out André to get a match. Bret didn't attack Michael's and force his wife to watch, not even Austin did stuff like this. And he struck Vince around every other week!

The top babyface is supposed to be the on screen moral compass. So don't have him do villanous things! He could have easily fooled Rusev into a match just as well.
lockard pretty much replied exactly how was I was going to.

The point is this: Cena didn't really do anything too out of line here. Stone cold Steve Austin is an awful example as he did so much crap that's arguably worse, it's not even funny. Like idk.. Stunning the whole McMahon family?

And I still argue that this feud is still pretty personal for Cena. He's like a soldier character and rusev constanly steps on America. Theres things they can do to make it better. But it's pretty personal. You don't have to have your head curb stomped on steps and be out for like 4 months just for a feud to be personal. If this were the case, no feud could truly be that great as they wouldn't feel "personal." Your definition is scewed.

A real heel move would have had Cena destroying Lana and force Russev to agree to the match. (could they even do that in the pg era?)

Or Cena actually grabbing the mic... And saying "Idc about you people ... And I will do whatever it takes to destroy and decimate everything I once stood for... I no longer fight for you... I fight for me..."

Plus, Cena did this "heel" move against a heel... If he wanted to be heel, this would've been done against let's say... Someone like dolph ziggler? Rowan? Ryback? How can someone turn heel by attacking a heel? Lol.

I see what stopspot was saying earlier but I still completely disagree.

I'm watching this morning. I'll post my impression after I see the whole segment. I can understand both points that have been made, I just need to see for myself.

Ok, in theory it was more of a heel-ish thing to do, BUT in this case I didn't see it as such a heel move or turn. It was more on the side of Cena being pushed to his limits and, perhaps, overreacting a little. Losing control a little if you will. And another BUT - if the trend continues it could be a start to a dark path. Say he wins this match at WM and utilizes the same ruthless aggression (see what I did there?) and starts to understand how acting that way can benefit him. And so on......

Would be cool to see him align with Bray if he goes that way hehehe - but that's just another pipe dream. Probably never happen.

Well, to be fair, now that Cena is no longer in the main-event picture for the foreseeable future, a heel turn or character change is more likely then ever. Him going from US champion to "fuck this shit I want the world title by any means" heel turn seems likely enough.

It could be either a slow burn or a shock turn on a well liked babyface. I share the view of some users on this forum that wwe will not miss the opportunity to turn cena.

They always tease it at this time of year, but until someone surpasses him in merch sales consistently it won't happen. It may never. Don't hold your breath.

I'll be the first to admit that I have been marking for Cena for the past couple of weeks but when I think ahead to 'Mania and think that Cena is going to win the more I don't like it. The only reason that comes to mind is that no one can be put over Cena and stay put over.

He didn't "beat" rusev. He just choked him out until he tapped. But there was no match. The match is now set at mania for the U.S. Title. Cena did this to earn his spot at mania.
That's the trailer for rusev what will he do to rusev in wm31. :D
