One of the things us brits do better than most, is the culture of summer entertainment festivals, normally music, but it does extend into other areas. The thing we are noted for in this area is the way we will battle all condations and put up with silly prices and all sorts just to unwind, get away from daily worries and have a blast! It is summer season again, and the festivals are already approaching thick and fast. So what plans to have for festival season?

This weekend I am going to the one day Apple Cart Festival in Victoria Park in London, the line-up is a fine mix of bands, stand-ups, theatre, as well as other nice add ons like a car boot sale and food and drink stores. Amongst the performers are Noah and the Whale, Billy Bragg, Lianne La Havas, Dexys, Penguin Cafe, Rich Hall, Shappi Khorsandi, Josie Long, Seann Walsh, Rude Grrl and more.

I am not a big fan of celebrating such events as the Diamond Jubilee, so I see this as a nice altertive to it, and a chance to catch up with a friend and get away from the stress of exams! I also hope to attend a music festival over the summer, at the moment it is between The Green Man and the Beacons festival, but there are so many to choose from nowadays.

In the past I have been to Glastonbury (which was an amazing life changing experience, and one I hope to have many times more!), Reading twice (which was horrible, and with a lack of really anything interesting to do apart from watch bands and drink), Summer Sundae twice (very good small festival, with a nice atmosphere and a good mix of musical styles, however the line-up has become predictable and too much geared towards a 90s indie market or radio two listeners since the last I went) and Kendal Calling (a nice pictureisque setting, with mostly a strong build, althrough some of the smaller bands were not of a good standard, there were some nice stores, but the failcites were pretty rotten.), V Festival two back to back single days in 99 and 00.

Well as many of you will know the weather was awful on sunday but never the less I had an enjoyable day at the Apple Cart Festival.

It was a bit disorganised with the gates opening late meaning that the two main stages were running roughly an hour behind throughout the day and as a result headliners Noah and the Whale had to cut their set short which was not good enough. Also because it was more of a family festival they maybe didn't cater to the adults enough. There needed to be more in the way of stores and overall entertaiment.

Still we saw some surreall things such as Snail Racing (I kid you not!), live Kids movies and we got to go on the carousel and I won my friend a cuddly Rhino!

And we saw some actual bands and stand ups and Cabaret lol.

My highlights being Rich Hall and Rich Hall's Hoedown (him and his band), Adam and the Ant (Prince Charming being the highlight), Billy Bragg (althrough he droned on a bit), Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Jeffrey Lewis and The Junkyard and Suzi Ruffell.

Going to Beer Fest this weekend and hopefully Heavy MTL in August. Those are the big summer festivals in my area.

Download kinda blows and this line is alright... Only four names I'd actually interested in seeing... Slash, Saxon, Sabbath & Metallica.. Cannot remember if Motorhead are playing, I'd see them but then again, I'm seeing them in November, so no biggy.

I wouldn't mind going to Reading when they have their epic rock lines up with the likes of Pearl Jam and Muses.

But I've been to Bloodstock, which was real good and one of the only chances I'd get to see my favorite bands and Germany's Wacken (The huge Heavy Metal Festival).

Masturbating in public and chewing people's faces.

Honestly, we have Blues Fest, excellent musical festival, featuring some pretty big names.

You might have to explain that last post to me lol.

I have been to Reading a couple of times and I found it to be a horrible experience. It was filled with Nasty drunk teenagers and apart from the music and drinking there is nothing else to do there. Plus the line-up give or take the odd suprise band is always very predictable, the same bands tend to play every couple of years.

Summer Fest...which I believe is now the biggest musical festival in the US. 11 day festival with 100 of bands on both free and paid stages. In my younger years I used to go all 11 days, but my liver can't handle it. This year going to see the Foo Fighters and Aerosmith for sure along with a few other bands on the free stage.

o_O!... 11 Days lol.

I gave up on festivaling, it's kinda shit... Usually filled with pretenious pricks, drunks, unclean and generally a bunch of whores.. Easy to get laid if you like drunken unclean sex lol.

Plus festivals are really predictable as mentioned, if I ever go to another festival, it'll be for a day just to see a band which might not do anything but a live festival gig... Kinda like Immortal, Gojira, etc.

The only thing I'd be interested in going to would be Cornerstone, only because it's the last one. That, or Warped for the local bands.

Am thinking of either going to the Green Man or Brecon festival in August both have strong line-ups and are in nice locations.

Am planning quite a big summer as I am taking my exams this week and then start UNI in september so am hopeing planning for a relaxing few months in between, mind you I should be moving to Brighton, so should have a lot of good times there.
