One of the things us brits do better than most, is the culture of summer entertainment festivals, normally music, but it does extend into other areas. The thing we are noted for in this area is the way we will battle all condations and put up with silly prices and all sorts just to unwind, get away from daily worries and have a blast! It is summer season again, and the festivals are already approaching thick and fast. So what plans to have for festival season?
This weekend I am going to the one day Apple Cart Festival in Victoria Park in London, the line-up is a fine mix of bands, stand-ups, theatre, as well as other nice add ons like a car boot sale and food and drink stores. Amongst the performers are Noah and the Whale, Billy Bragg, Lianne La Havas, Dexys, Penguin Cafe, Rich Hall, Shappi Khorsandi, Josie Long, Seann Walsh, Rude Grrl and more.
I am not a big fan of celebrating such events as the Diamond Jubilee, so I see this as a nice altertive to it, and a chance to catch up with a friend and get away from the stress of exams! I also hope to attend a music festival over the summer, at the moment it is between The Green Man and the Beacons festival, but there are so many to choose from nowadays.
In the past I have been to Glastonbury (which was an amazing life changing experience, and one I hope to have many times more!), Reading twice (which was horrible, and with a lack of really anything interesting to do apart from watch bands and drink), Summer Sundae twice (very good small festival, with a nice atmosphere and a good mix of musical styles, however the line-up has become predictable and too much geared towards a 90s indie market or radio two listeners since the last I went) and Kendal Calling (a nice pictureisque setting, with mostly a strong build, althrough some of the smaller bands were not of a good standard, there were some nice stores, but the failcites were pretty rotten.), V Festival two back to back single days in 99 and 00.
