Don Jon
Excellent film. It was really one of the most anticipated films of the year for me and in the end it even exceeded my expectations. Extremely well written, and fantastic casting with Tony Danza and Julianne Moore putting on very good performances. Also, a great directorial debut for Gordon-Levitt. I loved the use of repetition when showing Don Jon's usual routine, and the flow of the film was very good as well. One of my favourite films of the year. 9/10
Blue is the Warmest Colour
Really great... so much to say about it. For a 3-hour film it does go by quite fast, and even though every scene is pretty long, each one felt like the time was needed. It also gives much needed time for the story that it's trying to tell. The gratuitous sex scenes are obviously the biggest talking points, and rightly so. So many scenes in this film are just literally porn, no two ways about it. At times I felt like I knew what they were trying to get at, other times it all just felt unbelievably unnecessary. It still doesn't hurt the film too much though, especially since every scene is met with so emotion and intensity. I also have to comment on the lead Adele Exarchopoulos, who I thought was amazing. To think that she was only around 18 during the shooting of the film is absolutely insane. She's simply perfect in every scene. 9/10
