I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't take drugs. My only vice is gambling, I love having a bet on a whole range of sports and would rather spend money on that than all those other things. I prefer to stay away from the horses although I, like everyone else in Australia, bet on the Melbourne Cup each year and have a decent record in it.

The main sports that I bet on are;

AFL - I will sometimes bet on head to head matches or take the line. Another main bet is for the total points to be scored for the match. The best value by far is Brownlow night betting it is probably my most successful event for me. Betting on who get the most votes for each team won me a decent amount this year.

NBL - Betting on total points at full time and half time is the best bet by far in this league. The matches always start quickly and then fade because the quality of players is so poor.

Cycling - There is a lot of value out there during the main tour events. Best bets are the head to heads that some bookmakers offer and also winners of specific stages.

Cricket - I look more for the exotic markets here then the specific head to head matches.

There are a few others that I dabble in like Tennis, MMA and F1. Overall if I see value I will bet on it :p

I use a few sportsbooks to bet with with Sportsbet and Sportingbet my main two. I recently joined bet365 to take advatange of live betting with them. By the way anyone wanting a referral hit me up to get both of us extra free bets.

Is there anyone else of the forum that dabbles in sports betting? Also the legal betting in Australia is 18, is it 21 in the US like the drinking age or is it 18 as well? What about the rest of the world?

I'm a gambler too. :p

I've won and lost. Mostly won though.

Won last night when the Packers reached the Superbowl because I bet on them to win the NFC a few weeks back.

I'm a fan of betting on UFC too next month. I'm dumping cash on Fitch to beat Penn via unanimous decision. Something tells me I'm going to win. :D

I have never made a bet with official gamblers though I have made some massive bets with my cousin recently. The first two we made were on WWE and Football and were for a fiver. Now I've won the Football one as I bet him that Germany would not win the world cup despite there good form in the group stages and I was correct. Now we are still waiting on the Second five pound bet which is that Triple H returns as a heel and my cousin thinks he will be back as a face, now I am very concerned that this bet won't pull through but what we have decided to do is if he wins the bet it's evens as it cancels out my WC one and if I win he gives me £10. Now the other big bet I had with him was in April last year and that was that Cody Rhodes would be World Champion before 2 years from that day. The bet is for £50 annd I have less than a year to prove my predictions are not un knowledgeable as my cousin believes Cody will never be World Champ but I still have hope he can be champ by April next year and think he will be.

I have thought of betting on sports and at 18 I am now at the legal UK age to do so but I do not want to get in to a habbit where I keep on going like my uncle has done and is very addicted. So what I am going to do is when I see good odds on something that I believe can happen and I have the chance of winning a lot I will put a bet on it. If I win I will take the money and then put the majority in the bank before leaving £10 for another bet probably a year later and if I lose I will wait another year till I find a good bet. This way I wouldn't get addicted and the losses would not affect me as much if I did it only yearly.

We should really get some posts going in here if we see some good odds for events that are on in the future. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a jinx where everything we post here turns into a loser.

Note: I use the decimal system for odds since that is what I am used to, post whatever you are most comfortable with.

Tennis - Australian Open Mens Final
Djokovic 1.73 - Murray 2.10

I think that Djokovic is great value here. In the head to head Djokovic leads 4-3 although Murray has won the last three. Djokovic though has had to run through a tougher draw and he has form at the Australian Open having won it in 2008. Murray still hasn't broken through with his first win and the pressure on him is still immense. I predict a four set win to Djokovic.

Rashad Evans is a pretty good bet at 11/8 against Shogun. Shogun has shown weakness to wrestlers before, and add to that he's just coming off a near year-long lay off because of knee surgery. I'd say Shad's a pretty decent bet.

Obviously, Shogun may KO him, but he has to be on his feet to KO him. That may not be the case for a lot of this fight.

Ah my friends we share vices. I only turned 18 not SO long ago but since then the atmosphere that sports betting can create has been a lot of fun. I don't really drink much at all and I've never done anything drug related so this too is maybe the one 'frowned upon' thing I do partake in.

I'd love to bet more on the NFL in the UK but for some reason head to head odds are never worth it unless you do an accumulator. Total pain.

I primarily bet on football/soccer here in the UK, big cricket tournaments, big rugby tournaments and maybe a couple horse races a month.

Horse racing I always take the horse closest to 8/1 aha. Picked up the habit from my Grandad as that horse tends to be the best value for money.

Football is a sure fire way of making a few quid if you've got a bit to spare, especially in game. My first big win came when I predicted the 'next goalscorer' in a Liverpool game to be Gerrard twice. Better odds in-game (Y)

With quite a few sports head to heads aren't worth it, going for the line is a much better option since the value is there.

If I do end up betting on horses I never ever bet on the favourite. I can never see value in betting on the favourite in a race when there are a dozen horses in it.

In-play betting does have much better odds and that is why I love bet365. It allows me to bet in play online, which is actually illegal in Australia. We are meant to do it over the phone but for some reason we can bet in-play on the net with bet365.

Really? Why is it illegal, do you know the reasoning?

I'm not a bet365 user myself. I used to use betfred but switched to bet365 because there adverts seemed much more tailored to my style of in-play betting and of course I was tempted by the obligatory bonus :p

I believe that when the law was introduced some time ago it was to prevent pokies to be available online. There is a big problem in Australia with older people wasting all their money on pokies and to prevent them from be able to do that from the comfort of their own home they made it illegal. The way they worded the law made it so that all in-play betting, except for horse racing, is illegal on the internet. It is a primative law but it won't be overturned any time soon unless there is a change in leadership of both political parties.

The option to bet in-play was the big draw for bet365 and then the bonus made it even sweeter.

PaddyPower and Betfair are amongst my favs. Good odds at Betfair and I visit PaddyPower more out of habit than anything else.

Definitely dumping cash on Fitch for UFC 127.

Troy, I would have never pictured you having a vice. You always seemed so straight headed, like you knew what your goal was and always stuck to it. But it's all good, nice to see you're more than just a machine of epicness. As far as betting goes, it's about how much you have in your pocket, and how much you can afford to lose. It might suck when you lose, but at least it won't be life threatening or even straining.

First tip I posted and it is a winner. In the end it took Djokovic only three sets rather than four and I am very happy with the collect on $1.73 odds.

That final line is so true. Only bet what you can afford to lose. I only risk what I am happy with losing, it is the same when I invest in the stock market, I put in what I can afford to lose.

I've got a goal rush this weekend; 14 matches, both teams to score.

If all 28 teams score, I win £6500 from a £3 bet.

Let the goals flow!!!

It would be an epic win if that bet comes through. I will be cheering the goals on hoping you win.

I might have a look at the odds for the World Cup and try for some big multis as well.

Still going to throw whatever money I can scrape together on Fitch.

Anybody else betting on UFC 127?
