Like I can def tell you what his goals were with the booking and the promo, just came off about as forced and tone deaf as possible even if it makes sense on paper. Nothing you're saying here is wrong

That could be it, but the promo still just was all over the damn place for me. I was like Cody, wrap it up buddy. Like the whole stuff about his baby being mixed and all that just.....seemed weird.

I think that's more to do with the fact he's really proud to be a soon-to-be-dad and he wants to be proactive with upholding her biracial cultures.

There's a solid point that can be made about his unborn baby being mixed in Atlanta when segregation was a thing not so long ago....that was not the time or the place and just felt like he was shoehorning it in and now everyone is making jokes about him only having the baby for PR though

But overall I'm not too worried. Cody/Ogogo is something I wanted before the promo and we're getting it now. This seems to (rightfully IMO) be getting backlash and we know AEW is usually good at listening to fans so I imagine the USA/UK aspects will be toned down as much as they can before the PPV still. Probably just try and work it into being more about Cody's dad than the "American" part of American Dream

yeah I'd bet that too Chris, they'll likely try and forget about it. At least I'm hoping. I'm still looking forward to the match too, mostly because I still have zero idea if Anthony can do anything other than throw a hook to the body.

Maybe I’m a tone deaf Republican, but I think people are overthinking loving one’s country and wanting to make sure his biracial daughter respects both sides of her heritage. Especially since they do live in the south that was once segregated a short time ago. Poor choice for a promo, sure, but not really that big of a deal.

But yeah, hopefully he doesn’t bring that up again because it’s not needed in this feud for sure.

I doubt they drop the UK/US stuff though. That well is just too easy to dig into like the movie tropes that never die. Some things are just forever staples of the industry.
