BBC said:
Sony has confirmed that a film based on the Gran Turismo PlayStation game is in development.
The company said it could not provide any further details about the movie or when it would be made.

The Social Network and Fifty Shades of Grey producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have been linked to the project.

Gran Turismo is one of Sony's most popular franchises, selling 70 million copies worldwide.

The newest game in the series, Gran Turismo 6, is expected to be released later this year.

Sony executives Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will oversee the project, according to Hollywood news site The Wrap.

An adaptation of the long running Need for Speed franchise is due to be released early in 2014.

The DreamWorks production will feature Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and British actor Dominic Cooper.

There have also been several video game releases based on the Fast and Furious films.

Gran Turismo was first released in 1997 and versions of the game have been developed for all Sony PlayStation consoles since.

It has taken them a long time to do this especially when they have seen Fast & Furious do so well for over a decade. It has been a very popular franchise for over 15 years so there will be enough of a fan base there to make this worth pursuing. Would expect them to be targeting 2015 with a Need For Speed adaptation out next year.

Video game hardly ever make for great films. They would have to reboot this totally.

I'm a fan of Aaron Paul and Cooper, but I don't see this being anywhere near good. You could probably make an alright drama about legal racing, but with the Fast & Furious series, no one's going to give a fuck about that.

Movies about actual auto racing never do well. Except Days of Thunder.....Tom Cruise was a boss.

It's really the only one you ever need to watch. Duvall was pretty boss himself.

Duvall is always boss hog in anything he does. Tom Hagen is the G.O.A.T.

This movie will prolly look like Talledega Nights if they took the shit serious. Two rivals, always have to have rivals in racing movies, one guy is nice, but not enough money, the other is the rich douchebag. Probs fighting over a woman, she chooses the nice guy because that's what always happens. Gonna see a car flip, hero wins the big race, even though pro-racing is a points system so it might not even matter he won a race in the grand scheme of things.
