The best pitching match-up of the series turned out to be anything but as the Phils completed the 3-game sweep with a 10-4 thrashing of the Giants. The Giants took a 4-3 against Phils' ace Steve Carlton on a 2-run double by pinch-hitter Gary Alexander in the bottom of the sixth. But the good news ended there for the Giants as the Phils scored 5 runs, all unearned, in the top of the seventh. Reliever Dave Heaverlo threw wide of second on a ball that was tailor-made for a double play that would have ended the inning. Instead, the Phils got a 3-run triple from Garry Maddox and Maddox scored on a 2-base error by Larry Herndon. The Phils added 2 in the ninth on RBI singles by Ted Sizemore and Bake McBride. Steve Carlton, while not at his best in this game, went the distance for the winners. Garry Maddox drove in 4 runs for the Phils.
