It looked like the Giants were headed for another shutout win but two huger errors in the ninth led to 4 unearned runs and the Mets downed the Giants 4-1. The Giants scored an unearned run in the first on a sac fly by Willie McCovey. The big error in the ninth was committed by Gary Thomasson (COLOR ME SHOCKED!). Thomasson appeared to make a running catch on a dying fly ball hit by Felix Millan but the ball popped out of Thomasson's glove for a 3-base error that allowed 2 runs to score and put the Mets up for good. Giants brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but Derrell Thomas grounded to short to end the game. Bob Knepper suffered the tough luck loss for the orange and black. Giants D has been pretty atrocious early in the season.
