former WORLD champion Evil? I think you are kind of proving his point in this case - it's all relative to booker and surrounding talent

A talent's best role does not always equal how a booker uses them. Jeff Jarrett is someone who is a 10 time world champion but I've only ever liked his midcard stuff. Some people are better as midcard acts. No shame in that. Also this in relation to the AEW roster. Matt Taven would easily be a main guy in MLW or Impact. But in AEW? With respect, I can probs name 20 people I would have above him as a main event guy. Not even as shade, the roster is that stacked with names. Taven is pretty good in the ring and good on the microphone.

I'd also say you should try people in the main event and see if it works. If it doesn't then adjust and maybe try again later

With as much respect as I could possibly preposition this with upfront, but you’re pretty much exactly the person I was talking about in my first comment. Jeff Jarrett has been a world champion literally everywhere he’s been with the exception of just one place but somehow he’s a midcard guy and it just I don’t know it doesn’t make any sense to me, but you know it’s all good in the hood, though, we can agree to disagree.

As for your 20 guys above comment, I could probably name maybe half that at the very least over Taven for sure, but I think you can have a ranking of your main event players, but it still doesn’t mean that person can’t occasionally main event.

Respectfully.

Really? OK:

  1. MJF
  2. Ospreay
  3. Takeshita
  4. Hobbs
  5. Moxley
  6. Claudio
  7. Danielson
  8. Swerve
  9. Hangman
  10. Samoa Joe
  11. Orange Cassidy
  12. Jay White
  13. Kenny Omega
  14. Penta
  15. Darby Allin
  16. Eddie Kingston
  17. The Cope
  18. Christian Cage
  19. Danny Garica
  20. Sammy G
Like I said, super stacked roster as there is probs more names. Taven is not bad at all, he is good. But yeah on that roster? I don't think he is someone who should be in a main event. He is great midcard heel and the team with bennett works

Some people are better as midcarders. That was my point. I find Jarrett better IN THE MIDCARD even though yeah he is a MAIN EVENTER most places. Some people work better in that spot. Jarrett is a prime example where I hate his main event stuff but as a midcard heel? Great. Hate is way too strong for my thoughts on taven in the main event as in PPV main events. Also I meant as in main eventing PPV and big shows. Taven main eventing a TV show is fine and not what I meant at all.

I don’t even disagree much with this list. I would say it’s probably only three or four guys I would actually put Taven over if I was making the choices of course. But like I was saying, you can have a revolving door of your main event.

Like it's not even shade. The guy is a good wrestler but this roster is fucking nuts ability wise. I missed people off as well (give a Taven match over current Jericho :p). I just think some excel in certain roles. He is a good midcard heel. One of my favs of all time is Tyson Kidd who I feel is also a great midcard heel. Obviously Taven could change my mind but based on what I've seen, main eventing an odd episode of TV and been a midcard heel in a faction/tag team champion is a good use for him. He is good at the that role.

I get what you’re saying, but I disagree with you. I think it’s a conditioning issue actually. I think got conditioned to believe he was better in the midcard. Both by his original presentation and by what Chris said, other fans also for years saying the same thing. Just my personal opinion.

Because in my personal and obviously subjective opinion, I think Jeff Jarrett is actually one of the better main event players that came out of his time.. That guy could have a good match with anybody he worked with, and he generally generated heat like nobody’s business.

He can main event TV shows, that's not a problem. If he was shit I'd be against it but he is a good wrestler and someone you need in a company (again OC vs Taven is my 3rd fav match I've seen this year). When I meant main event, I was more like PPV main events and world title programmes.

EVIL got that heat brother - but I don't think he was the right choice at the right time - similar to the Taven discussion I suppose

I’m talking about the same thing, too. I’m saying if Tony wanted to he could easily main a PPV imo.

I wouldn’t make him a top 5 main event player I’d build the company on, but in a mick foley occasionally main event and maybe have a short run on top, I can easily see.

Because the thing is, it’s not like after he steps back down, you can’t slide one of those other 15 guys back in.

I was saying this to blaze too but I think that even the upper mid card slot is a lost art form that people don’t do anymore but it was a beautiful mechanic you had your core main event guys then you could have a revolving door of guys you could slide in.

Nah EVIL sucks. Taven is actually good. If the roster was less stacked (Ala 2019) I wouldn't even be against giving him a go as a main event heel and seeing if it clicks. People have proved me wrong before.

Now, to be fair with this exact phrase you are using here. I don’t even disagree that much. Like I was saying to Chris, where person position on a roster is all dependent on the talent you have at your disposal. When Matt Tavon was the champion look at the roster or Ring of Honor was working with at the time. I would argue. Taven was the top three player at that point. Even though I wouldn’t say top 15 necessarily in the AEW main event like you were saying, Taven still crushed that TV main event. So he still a great talent and it all just depends on your circumstances.

I also want to say that my level of the hill that I’d be willing to die on changes between Taven and Jeff because I don’t even think Tavon is on the Jeff Jarrett level where I think Jeff Jarrett I think is a bona fide main event player, Taven is a guy I would occasionally slide in the main event.
