That was actually The Mountie's TV debut and it would also be the last appearance of Dustin Rhodes in WWE until Goldust. I'm rather surprised at how long some of those undercard matches are. I would have expected like five minutes out of Bossman vs Barbarian and Mountie vs Koko. Funny how Sherri was demanding Warrior give Savage a title match and then he never got a title match.

Yeah that was really weird to watch when I was going back and doing all the old PPVs lol bc I was like wait that never happened

Match 1: WWF Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Battle Royal - The Legion of Doom won by last eliminating The Midnight Express (8:19)

1000019619.png

Honestly, I'm glad we got the worst part of the night out of the way first. This was messy. First off, only 2 teams got an entrance. Faarooq and Kama Mustafa of the Nation and the returning LOD. So I have no clue who was in this. They never tell us who's teaming with who before the match starts. Bradshaw was teaming with Chainz for some reason. And it also doesn't help that the rule is only one team member has to be thrown over for both members to be eliminated. So Barry Windham runs down and throws out Chainz because he's feuding with Bradshaw I guess. But Bradshaw doesn't know until a moment later cause a referee has to tell him. D'Lo Brown gets thrown out, but his partner, Mark Henry doesn't know that and I'm pretty sure he's in there for at least another 3 minutes. The match comes down to LOD, Midnight Express, The DOA and The Godwinns. One of the baldies is thrown out and then he gets back in and they throw out the Godwinns and then try to fight LOD for some reason. It doesn't look like they have any shred of a clue of what they were doing. Then The Godwinns grab a couple of buckets and they crack LOD in the back with it. What the hell is going on? Anyway, the Midnight Express can't beat LOD and they're both thrown out. LOD win this mess of a match. On the bright side, this was the worst moment of the night. We can only go up from here.

My Rating: *

Match 2: Light Heavyweight Championship Match - Taka Michinoku (c) def. Aguila (5:57)

1000019620.jpg

Quick and to the point, I like it. Its wild to me that Aguila was 19 in this match. I was the biggest loser on the beach at 19 and this guy was having a match at WrestleMania. Not a long match, just a quick fast paced one. They get all their shit in quick. All the moves they could pull out in 6 minutes, they did. Aguila hits a sick moonsault from the top rope to the outside floor. But Taka later tops that with a running springboard crossbody to the floor. Aguila hits a few arm drags first from the top rope and then he springboards off the ropes and gets Taka again. Taka rolls to the outside and Aguila gets him with a corkscrew dive over the top to the floor. Taka tries for a corkscrew moonsault but Aguila dodges him and hits regular moonsault. He places Taka on the top rope and leaps up to hit a head scissors to the mat. But Taka fires back with moves of his own. A missile dropkick and a sitout powerbomb. Taka misses a moonsault from the top rope. Aguila goes up and comes off the top, but gets hit with a dropkick from Taka, who hits the Michinoku Driver for the win. Exciting and fast paced match. The two shake hands and we move on.

My Rating: ***

Match 3: European Championship Match - Triple H (c) def. Owen Hart (11:29)

1000019621.jpg

A nice midcard match. Although I think Owen should've been main eventing (not this particular event, but in general). He was over as hell after the Screwjob went down. HHH had only been the European Champ for about 2 weeks here. Having taken it off Owen by taking advantage of an ankle injury. The special stipulation to this match was that Sgt. Slaughter would handcuff himself and Chyna together (kinky) to stop her from interfering. Owen comes out of the gate hot. He tackles HHH as soon as he gets in the ring he punches HHH repeatedly in the face outside the ring in front of Chyna, who has to be pulled back by Slaughter. But HHH finally takes Owen down with a knee to the face. He bloodies Owen's nose with a kick the face and goes to work on his previously injured ankle. But Owen is able to turn it around by dragging HHH dick first into the ring post. Then he starts to hit all the classics, missile dropkick, heel kick, enziguri. Owen goes for a leaping hurricanrana but HHH counters it into a powerbomb. HHH tries for a Pedigree, Owen sweeps his legs and tries for the Sharpshooter. But HHH shoves him off with his legs, and Owen falls face first into his crotch. HHH tries for the Pedigree again, but Owen reverses with a backdrop, but HHH tries to counter into a sunset flip pin, Owen rolls back onto his feet and rolls HHH over for the Sharpshooter. HHH crawls towards Chyna for help. Chyna overpowers Slaughter for a moment to help HHH grab the bottom rope. Owen pulls HHH and rains fists down on his face and Chyna takes a moment to throw some powder right into Slaughter's eyes. Owen runs over to berate her and HHH puts a knee into his back. The referee backs HHH and as he does, Chyna hops on the apron and low blows Owen. HHH brings him back to the center and hits a Pedigree to take the win.

My Rating: ***1/2

Match 4: Sable & Marc Mero def. Luna Vachon & Goldust (9:11)

1000019622.jpg

Its at least better than it sounds on paper. Its weird in a way that Sable is the only babyface in the match. Right away, this match makes me mad. The match starts with Marc and Goldust. Goldust quickly tags out to Luna, who wants to fight Mero, but as soon as Sable comes in, Luna runs from her. That sentence feels dirty to write out. Luna deserved better is what I'm saying. Luna quickly tags Goldust back in. Mero tags Sable back inside and again, Luna refuses to fight Sable. Luna was a legitimate badass, no way she should be afraid of Sable. Mero and Goldust go at it some more before Sable and Luna are both tagged in and this face off gets a big pop so I guess I can't knock it too much. But I wish Luna would've gotten to look good a little bit. Luna tags Goldust backs in and he marches up to Sable as if he's gonna do something, but Sable clocks him in the face. Mero gets back in and Goldust spits at Sable, who tries to get in and is held back by the referee. Mero low blows Goldust from behind and goes for the TKO, but Goldust counters it into a DDT. Mero later goes up and hits a moonsault, almost lands on his head. Mero is kicked by Luna as he runs the ropes. Goldust goes to save her from Mero, who looks like he's about to strike her. Mero dodges and Goldust knocks Luna off the apron. Mero rolls Goldust up from behind, Goldie kicks out. Mero covers him, but Luna gets in and rakes his back. He hops on his back and Mero stumbles to the corner, Sable tags herself in and covers Goldust. The referee is distracted trying to get Mero out and Luna heads to the top rope. Sable gets off Goldust and Luna ends up splashing him. Sable picks Luna up and drops her with a piledriver, stacks her up and Luna kicks out. Luna rakes Sable's eyes and starts choking her on the middle rope. The crowd starts chanting “Sable! Sable!” Sable reverses an irish whip and hits Mero's TKO to pin Luna. I think I would've liked this match a bit more if they hadn't made Luna and Goldust look foolish to cover up Sable's lack of in ring ability.

My Rating: **3/4

Match 5: Intercontinental Championship Match - The Rock (c) def. Ken Shamrock via DQ (4:49)

1000019623.jpg

I'm not mad over this. I'm just wondering what the point is? Like, how was either of these two guys supposed to come out looking better from this? The Rock comes out first. Shamrock rushes towards the ring and lays into The Rock early. He clotheslines Rock over the top rope and goes after him, brings him back to the ring. Rock fights back, gets his shit in. He hits the People’s Elbow before it was called the People's Elbow or even a finisher. Shamrock goes outside and grabs a chair cause he's not that bright. The referee tries to take it from him. Shamrock throws the chair down and the referee at the same time. Rock grabs the chair and cracks Shamrock in the head with it as the referee is down. Rock covers Ken, but Shamrock not only kicks out, he throws Rock’s body off him. Shamrock gets up and gets into the zone. He starts to throw Rock around effortlessly and then puts him in the Ankle Lock. Rock's mouth is busted and he taps out to Shamrock. New IC Champion. D'Lo, Kama and Mark Henry all get in to attack Shamrock, but he hands each of them a belly to belly and reapplies the Ankle Lock. Faarooq runs down to potentially help Rock. But Rock hit him in the head with a chair on Raw, so Faarooq says “screw you” and leaves. Ken doesn't let go of the Ankle Lock and eventually a bunch of referees and suits run out to pry Shamrock off The Rock. But Ken hands out belly to bellies for them too. Shamrock is on a warpath. But then Finkel gets on the mic and makes the announcement that the referee has refused the decision and disqualified Shamrock for not breaking the ankle lock. So Shamrock resnaps and chases the medical guys carrying the Rock out. He beats up The Rock some more before a few guys get between the two of them. Then he leaves. I don't know who this was supposed to help. Neither guy came out of this looking particularly good. So I'm a little confused what the point of this was.

My Rating: *3/4

Match 6: WWF Tag Team Championship Dumpster Match - Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie def. The New Age Outlaws (c) (10:01)

1000019624.jpg

This match was a mess, but in a good way. It actually helped it in a way. Some guys roll a dumpster out to the ring. The way you win this match is by throwing both your opponents in the dumpster and closing the lid. So basically the same rules as a Casket Match or Ambulance Match. The match is a brawl from the start Cactus and Funk meet The Outlaws outside. The Outlaws get the better of the old timers. They hang Jack and Funk's heads over the top of the dumpster and repeatedly drop the lids on their heads. The Outlaws throw the insane old men into the dumpster and just as Road Dogg is about to shut the lid, Cactus pops out and puts the Mandible Claw on him. Billy hits him over the head with something metal. Funk opens the other lid and hits Billy over the head with a cookie sheet. Jack and Funk get out of the dumpster and beat on the Outlaws with cookie sheets. Cactus drags a ladder out from under the ring and throws it inside. He starts to climb to probably drop an elbow on Road Dogg. But Billy gets back in and low blows Funk. Billy climbs up the other side of the ladder and begins fighting with Cactus. Road Dogg swings a sheet into Funk's head. And Funk stumbles back, accidentally pushing the ladder and causing Jack and Billy both to fall into the dumpster. God I know that fucking sucked for both of them. Funk takes a bad bump a moment later. Road Dogg helps Billy get up and crawl out. Cactus climbs out a moment later. Billy powerbombs Funk into the dumpster. The Outlaws realize Cactus has made it out of the dumpster and chase him. The Outlaws beat Cactus to the backstage area. They make their way towards a forklift. Jack just so happens to find a steel chair around and whacks them both in the head with it. Jack hits a Double Arm DDT on the pallet on the floor to Billy. He throws Road Dogg onto the pallet too. And Funk hops on the forklift, lifts the pallet towards a dumpster which happens to be back there. Jack rolls the Outlaws into the dumpster and closes the lids, giving them the Tag Team Titles! The old men win. Which seemingly was leading Jack and Funk against LOD at Unforgiven, which sounds awesome! Unfortunately, thats not what happened. Same old boring LOD/Outlaws match people had seen so much already.

My Rating: ***1/2

Match 7: The Undertaker def. Kane (16:58)

1000019625.png

I think we can agree that this is Undertaker and Kane's best match together. People might think I'm overrating this match but I've always loved it. The story they told was great. And despite losing, Kane comes out looking like a monster. Kane dominates this match. Undertaker is on the defense for nearly the entire match. Undertaker gets a few shots near the beginning of the match but Kane stands his ground and hardly even flinches on every blow. But Kane catches Undertaker coming off the ropes and hits like a running powerslam into the corner, hanging Undertaker in the tree of woe. And now is the point when Kane starts to really pummel Taker. Undertaker dodges a couple clotheslines. He comes off the ropes. But Taker actually leaps onto Kane's shoulders and punches down on his head. But Kane drops Taker forward, dropping the deadman right on his face. Kane takes Undertaker outside and slams the steel steps into his back. And normally I would question why that wasn't a DQ, but if I were that referee, I wouldn't wanna disqualify Kane either. Paul Bearer takes a shot at Undertaker too as Kane has the referee backed into a corner in the ring. Kane pummels Undertaker again and Jim Ross suggests that Taker might be trying to get Kane to punch himself out. Undertaker comes out of the corner with a clothesline that hardly moves Kane. Undertaker runs the ropes, ducking under a couple clotheslines, but Kane catches him by the throat and drops Taker with a Chokeslam. Kane covers Undertaker. 1, 2. Kane picks Undertaker up by his hair to stop the count. Obviously, he's nowhere close to being done with him. Kane starts to wear Taker out but Undertaker picks Kane up by his waist and over the top rope, Undertaker boots Kane off the apron and then dives over the top. Kane sidesteps and Undertaker crashes through the spanish announce table! All this and Undertaker has yet to knock Kane off his feet this whole match. Kane tosses Undertaker back inside and hits a flying clothesline off the top rope. And then goes back to pummeling Undertaker. But Taker to punch back, but with much less strength behind them now. Undertaker manages to get Kane up for the Tombstone. However, Kane reverses it and Tombstones Taker right in the mat. Kane holds his hands down and Undertaker somehow kicks out after that. Kane stands Undertaker back up and Undertaker must be putting all the strength he has left into these punches. He finally knocks Kane off his feet with a clothesline. Undertaker goosles Kane and drops him with a Chokeslam. Then slashes his throat. Kane sits up, but gets picked up and dropped with a Tombstone. 1, 2. Kickout! The first time anyone's kicked out after a Tombstone. Jim Ross stutters calling it, he's so shocked. Kane sits up and Taker picks him back up to hit another Tombstone. 1, 2… another kick out from Kane. Undertaker goes to the top rope and hits a flying clothesline. Kane sits up again. Undertaker picks him back up and hits one more Tombstone. 1, 2, 3. But barely a three. Kane kicks out a millisecond after the three count. But either way, Undertaker adds on to his WrestleMania streak. after the match, Paul Bearer grabs a steel chair and throws it inside. Undertaker punches Paul's lights out and falls back down out of exhaustion. Kane gets back up and Tombstones Undertaker on the chair and then leaves. Undertaker sits up once Kane and Paul get out of there. Even though the record shows a win for Undertaker, it feels more like he survived. I think this is an underrated gem in the Undertaker's Mania match record.

Main Event: WWF Championship Match with Mike Tyson as Special Enforcer - Steve Austin def. Shawn Michaels (c) (20:02)

1000019626.jpg

But now its time for the main event. This match was great but sometimes I wonder what could've been if Austin had a healthy neck and Shawn had a healthy back. I have no idea how Shawn got through this match. I don't even wanna bend down to tie my shoe with a bad back, let alone wrestle a 20 minute match. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the inclusion of Mike Tyson isn't interesting to me at all. Like, you have Stone Cold and you have Shawn Michaels. What more could you need? This is also where we got the famous meme template of Shawn smiling and then looking sad when he gets flipped off. This felt like a big match, as if it was going to be the culmination of Stone Cold’s rise to the top. Shawn starts the match with a couple of jabs, and Austin starts to chase Shawn out, and back inside the ropes. Austin lets everyone get a look at Shawn's full moon and backdrops HBK over the ropes onto HHH. Austin goes out after Shawn, but Triple H jumps Austin from behind and throws him into the barricade. Then referee makes the decision to send HHH and Chyna to the back instead of disqualifying Shawn. Austin beats up HHH up the aisle and gets attacked by Shawn from behind. Austin and HBK make it back to the ring, where Austin begins to hammer into Shawn. Austin whips Shawn into the corner and Shawn attempts his flip into the corner, but instead, he just hits his back against the turnbuckles. Austin tries for the Stunner, but HBK throws him off and goes out to the apron, but Austin catches him and punches him off the apron, face first into the announce table. Shawn is back into the barricade and backdrops Austin over. And as Austin is climbing back over, Shawn hits him in the head with a ring bell. Shawn throws Austin back in the ring and starts to wear him down, but unfortunately, he starts to show signs that he's really hurt. You can see it on his face, his back is in agony. Shawn flips off the crowd and Austin tackles him to the mat and lays into him. Austin then throws Shawn out of the ring, but Shawn sweeps his legs out and drags him over to the ring post where Shawn slams his knees into. Shawn works over Austin's knees. He baseball slides Austin, who goes over the announce table. Its Tyson who throws Austin back inside. Austin takes offense to that and jaw jacks him from the inside. Shawn chop blocks Austin from behind and locks him in the Figure 4. Austin escapes by rolling over. Austin gets back up and starts firing off shots on Shawn. Austin catapults Shawn into the top turnbuckle and rolls him up from behind for a 2 count. Shawn manages to put a sleeper on Austin and the referee thinks the best position to see Austin is from behind them obviously. Because it leads Austin backing Shawn up into the corner where the referee gets squished behind them. Austin escapes and retreats to the opposite corner. Shawn takes a run at him and Austin throws him into the top turnbuckle. Austin starts to pummel Shawn until Shawn hits a weak flying forearm off the ropes. His back is in shambles. Shawn goes to the top rope, drops an elbow, he signals for the end. Shawn tunes up the band, tries for Sweet Chin Music, but Austin ducks it, tries for a Stunner. Shawn throws him off to the ropes, goes for the Superkick again. Austin catches his foot, spins him around and hits a Stunner finally and hooks the leg. Tyson slides in and counts a quick three. And as Jim Ross would say “The Austin Era has begun!”

My Rating: ****

Cagematch Rating: 6.74

My Rating: 8.5/10

This feels officially like the Attitude Era has begun. I would say there's only a few things about this event that I didn't like. That messy opener. The way they make Luna look awful, and the weird booking for the IC Title Match. Everything else though is enjoyable and we ended the night with 2 great matches and the crowning of one of the guys on wrestling's mount rushmore. There's better shows I've watched. But this is the best WrestleMania so far.

The battle royal did have a few very random tag teams such as Chainz & Bradshaw and Flash Funk & Steve Blackman, but it also had a random pairing in the form of Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor in their first match as a team. It would be two weeks later on Shotgun that they would be officially dubbed Too Much and pick up their first win.

Ken Shamrock and The Rock were doing an angle of Shamrock snapping and getting DQ'ed. They did it at Royal Rumble and then faced each other again int the finals of the King of the Ring where Shamrock won and there was some question as to if Shamrock would snap again but he didn't. I do feel like they could have taken a few minutes off of the Kane vs Undertaker match and given it to Rock and Shamrock, though with Kane and Undertaker being the semi-main event it makes sense that it would get more time.

What blew my mind when I first went back and watched this era was how fucking long they teamed as Too Much doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and then all of a sudden they paired Rikishi in a thong with them and they were the hottest thing on the world for a short time

Match 1: United States Championship Fatal 4-Way Match - Jacob Fatu (c) def. LA Knight, Drew McIntyre & Damian Priest (18:14)

1000019706.jpg

A fun match to start our night off. I thought Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre both were awesome here. The first several minutes are fine. They're nothing too crazy. Every man gets to take turns holding the ring down, first, LA Knight, then Drew and then Priest. But Priest gets caught by Fatu and samoan dropped on the barricade. He sees McIntyre from the other side of the ring, they both get in and start going at it. Drew tries to hit a superplex, but Knight comes back, and hangs Drew from the tree of woe. Knight goes for a superplex on Fatu, who headbutts LA back to the mat. Drew lifts his upper body and tosses Fatu from the top rope. Fatu lands across Knight, and Fatu, without missing a beat throws himself into Drew in the corner before running the ropes and hitting a suicide dive to Damian! This guy is the fucking man! Fatu goes back up and hits a Senton on Drew, Knight gets back up and hits BFT on Fatu, who turns to get goosled by Priest who hits a South of Heaven. Drew gets up and hits a Claymore on Priest, who falls onto LA Knight, which counts as a pin. But Drew stops the 3 count. This match went from 1 to 11 so fast! Fatu is the first back on his feet and goes to throw himself at Drew again, but Drew launches his body and headbutts Fatu before hitting a Future Shock DDT. LA Knight tries to give Drew a BFT, but Drew shoves him off and hits the Future Shock on him now. Drew delivers a Claymore to Knight and pins him, 1, 2. The referee gets pulled out of the ring by Priest. Priest drags Drew out next and the two start to brawl out there and it spills into the crowd. Meanwhile back in the ring, Fatu tries to hit a moonsault on Knight, who moves out of the way and hits a elbow from the top rope to take Fatu down, then he goes back up to drop another elbow and gets a 2 count. Drew and Damian fight out through the audience. Damian at one point, holds Drew's face towards the camera and says “he's bored at work.” Which is awesome. The two of them climb a bunch of equipment trunks stacked on top of each other and Priest winds up chokeslamming Drew through 2 tables below them, taking both men out of this match. Meanwhile, back at ringside, LA Knight prepares to drop an elbow through Fatu on the announce table, but Solo comes out and pulls Fatu off to save him. Knight starts approaching Solo but gets wiped out by the debuting Jeff Cobb. Cobb completely takes Knight out and throws him back in the ring. Fatu has gotten back up now, he looks back and forth between Solo and Cobb before heading back in, throwing himself at Knight in the corner before heading up to drop a moonsault on Knight to retain. Really liked this match, but I think the next match is what steals the show.

My Rating: ***3/4

Match 2: Women's Intercontinental Championship Match - Lyra Valkyria (c) def. Becky Lynch (18:43)

1000019705.jpg

I was pretty into this feud. I always thought the “Becky Hogan” comments were stupid as fuck and this feud and this match pretty much proves it. I think Lyra is coming out of this feud better than ever. This match was great. Lyra outwrestles Becky early in the match, she puts her in a surfboard and humiliates her. Moving Becky no problem while keeping the hold on. They make a point that Becky's betrayal has brought out a meaner side of Lyra. And it shows as Lyra not only has her number early but mocks her as she does it. But Lyra goes to the top rope and Becky takes the chance to yank her off by her hair. Becky starts to grind Lyra into the mat and takes her outside. He shoves Lyra into the barricade right in front of her fiancé and says “is this your girl?” That wakes Lyra up a little and she starts to fight back. Becky throws Lyra into the post before throwing her back in the ring. Lyra looks at her former mentor and slaps her in the face defiantly. Becky goes for an exploder, but Lyra counters it into a small package pin, before lifting Becky off the mat, still hooking her neck and leg to drop Becky with an almost muscle buster. Now the pace starts to pick up and we start to have a match! Lyra starts to comeback and the match starts to become more even. Lyra hits a suplex off the ropes for a two. She tries to hit Nightwing, but Becky escapes. Lyra rolls Becky up from behind, Becky keeps rolling and tries to grab the bottom rope on the pin. Becky tries for the Mandhandle Slam but Lyra escapes that attempt and throws Becky to the outside. Lyra leaps over the ropes with a crossbody to Becky on the outside. Lyra tosses Becky back inside and hits a legdrop from the middle rope and then tries for a moonsault off the middle rope that Becky got her knees up for. The two start to trade blows before Becky slams Lyra down, trying to put an armbar on her. Lyra reverses it into her own armbar. And Becky counters that into the Dis-Arm-Her. Lyra escapes by rolling Becky into a pin. Becky goes for the Manhandle Slam, Lyra counters it into a pin, the same way she beat Becky for the NXT Title. Becky kicks out and now hits the Manhandle Slam. Becky covers her, 1, 2… kickout from Lyra! Becky is stunned. She starts to lose her temper and then goes out to grab a steel chair. The referee takes it away from her. But as she gets rid of the chair, Becky gets rid of the top turnbuckle pad, which unfortunately ends up being pointless. Becky goes to throw Lyra into the exposed turnbuckle. Lyra… trips I think and hits the middle turnbuckle instead. Minor hiccup, whatever. Lyra turns around into another Manhandle Slam. Becky pins her again and Lyra kicks out again! The referee finally sees the turnbuckle pad is off and goes to put the pad back on. Becky goes for another Slam, but Lyra escapes it and drops Becky with Nightwing! The referee is late on the count and Becky kicks out! Becky goes for another Slam, but Lyra reverses it into another pin, Becky kicks at 2. Becky pokes Lyra right in the eye and tries to roll her up, but Lyra manages to Becky on her back from the mat and pin her to get the win. But before Lyra even has to time to know she won, Becky gets up and kicks her in the face before putting her in the Dis-Arm-Her for a while. The match is over and Lyra wins. Becky Hogan my ass. This feud has done wonders for not just Lyra but the belt she's holding. Or was holding at least.

Match 3: Intercontinental Championship Match - Dominik Mysterio (c) def. Penta (9:17)

1000019708.jpg

A pretty decent match here. I was a little surprised how much offense they allowed Dom to get on Penta. The match starts and Penta gives Dom a hurricanrana, but then Dom gives one to Penta. Dom crotches Penta on the top rope and dropkicks him to the floor. Dom runs and dives through the ropes and a super smooth tornado DDT on the floor. Dirty Dom is on top now and grinds Penta down. But Penta fights out of a chinlock and hits a slingblade from behind Dom. Dom rolls out of the ring and Penta hops up on one foot. He climbs the turnbuckle and hits a crossbody to Dom on the outside. Penta tosses Dom back in the ring, but gets kicked in the gut coming off the top again. Dom tries for the 3 amigos, Penta stops that. Dom tries the 619, misses that. But he hits Penta with Ob-Liv-ion and covers Penta and gets a 2. Both men wind up on the apron and Penta gives Dom a Mexican Destroyer out there. But as both men are down out there, Carlito (RIP) goes out there and distracts the referee. Balor and JD jump the barricade and Balor plans to use a chair on Penta. The referee turns around to see Balor and JD with their hands in the cookie jar. The referee sends the Judgment Day to the back, but Penta sends them packing. He dives over the ropes and hits Carlito and JD, but misses Balor. Penta goes back inside and drops Dom with a superkick. Finn Balor tries to get in the ring and distracts the referee and while that's happening, Penta starts climbing the ropes, but El Grande Americano climbs on the apron and headbutts Penta, sending him to the mat. Dominik takes advantage and hits a Frog Splash to get the 3 count and retain the IC Title.

Match 4: Gunther def. Pat McAfee (14:07)

1000019707.jpg

I feel alone here. Because I actually really like this match. I mean, its not what I would've booked but they managed to put on a good match here. Pat McAfee could've gone full time if he really wanted to I think. The biggest complaint (and there were a lot) about this match was that Gunther didn't squash Pat. Except, he did squash him. Just because it goes 14 minutes doesn't make this not a squash match. I saw one person even say this match was “competitive.” Competitive? What match were they watching? The one and only reason this match went as long as it did was because Gunther was cocky and allowed it to. He could've ended McAfee at any time he wanted to. Michael Cole pleads with him several times to do just that. Gunther takes McAfee lightly for pretty much the whole match. I think this was the only way a matchup like this would've been any good. I believe it was done as well as possible. Gunther gives Pat a… well, a pat on the head. Pat takes offense and knocks Gunther back with a right hand. Pat gives him a couple more shots and runs the ropes and runs right into a chop from Gunther. Pat gets up and starts giving Gunther some short jabs and then chops him. Gunther seems unfazed by Pat's chops and tells him to bring it on. “Hit me again.” And then Gunther chops him back down. This is the point where Cole starts to yell at Gunther to pin McAfee and move on. The only Gunther answer gives is with a smile. Gunther misses an elbow drop and Pat kicks Gunther in the spine. Gunther looks unfazed again and gets up. He simply snap mares Pat and gives him a kick of his own to the back. Pat has to pull himself back up with the ropes. Pat gets into a chop battle with Gunther that ends with Gunther kicking Pat in the face, dropping him to the mat. Michael Cole keeps yelling at Gunther to pin him. Gunther taunts Cole and invites him into the ring. Pat stands back up and slaps Gunther right in the face and Gunther knocks Pat on his back again with a chop. Gunther places Pat on the top rope, but McAfee gives Gunther some elbows and flips back off the ropes. Gunther goes for a throwaway German suplex, but Pat lands on his feet again and kicks Gunther in the back again. This time it seems to stun him a bit. Pat punts Gunther in the jaw and covers him, Gunther kicks out at 1 and gets right back up with a smile. Pat hits Gunther a couple times and Gunther tells him to bring it on. They start to trade shots and Pat actually stumbles Gunther (I'm sure they called that burying him). Gunther catches Pat's foot and hits a powerbomb on Pat. Gunther puts Pat in the Boston Crab and Cole finally has enough. He gets off the commentary table and tries to spur McAfee on. Gunther brings Pat back to the center of the ring and lets go of him. He goes over and drags Michael Cole into the ring by his shirt. Gunther threatens to powerbomb him, but Pat saves his buddy. Gunther kicks him back down and he's distracted by Cole again. Pat rolls Gunther up from behind. Gunther kicks out and Pat rolls to the apron. Gunther goes to suplex Pat back in the ring, but Cole sweeps his leg, Pat lands on top and they try to Ultimate Warrior Gunther. But Gunther kicks at 2. Gunther stares a hole through Cole and Pat comes up from behind to lock in a Sleeper. But Gunther gets out of it pretty quick and clotheslines Pat. Then Gunther decides its time to end this. This ending, I'm not a fan of, I'll admit. Pat should've tapped out, not pass out. He's in the hold for a while too. But its not a big deal, whatever. Not gonna fuss over it. Gunther puts Pat in the Sleeper, Pat loses consciousness and Gunther wins. An actually enjoyable match. I didn't go into this expecting to like it so I'm pleasantly surprised.

Main Event: Undisputed WWE Championship Match - John Cena (c) def. Randy Orton (27:49)

1000019709.jpg

For this match, my expectations were that it was either going to be really good or really bad. I'm leaning more towards good, but turns out its a bit of both. I think the runtime is a bit much, but I started to have a lot of fun in the second half of the match. Its St. Louis, so this crowd was alive for Randy. Not only is this the first time Cena was the heel and Orton was the babyface, but its also the first time Orton was more jacked than Cena was. A few minutes in, Cena extends his hand in an offer to shake. Orton surprisingly takes it and Cena pokes him in the eye. And then Orton winds up doing the same thing a minute later. Cena decides he doesn't want to hang around and tries to leave. However, Orton runs up and catches him, bringing him back towards the ring. Orton really schools Cena early in the match and has the upper hand. But I will say, the first half of this match is soooo slow. Pacing themselves and saving the good stuff for the second half which is what you're supposed to do I guess. But its pretty boring. Cena goes for an AA, but Orton escapes. Cena tries to lock in the STF, but Orton kicks him off to the apron. Orton hits Cena with a draping DDT. Orton tries an RKO, but Cena shoves him off and picks him. Cena tosses him with an AA, but Orton counters it into an RKO. Both men are down. Both get up and start trading blows. Cena ducks a punch and hits Orton with another AA. Cena hooks the leg, kickout from Orton. Cena waits for Orton to get up so he can hit another AA. Orton escapes and Cena starts giving him shoulder tackles. Orton counters one into an RKO, but… doesn't cover him for some reason. Orton goes for a punt kick instead, but Cena was able to dodge it. Orton turns around into an AA from Cena. The third AA and Orton still kicks out. Orton rolls to a corner. Cena starts mocking Orton, slamming his hands in the mat as Orton does whenever he sets up for an RKO. Cena retrieves back to the corner and throws his head all around. Cena goes for a punt to Orton's head. Orton was able to dodge that. And he tries an RKO again, but Cena shoves Orton off him into the referee. Cena hits another AA, but there's no referee to count the pin. Cena looks out at the title and smiles. He looks at hard cam and puts his fingers to lips and basically shushes us. He goes outside to grab the title and brings it in the ring. But Orton is quicker and drops Cena with an RKO. Orton covers Cena, but the referee is slow on the count and Cena kicks out right before 3. Cena rolls out of the ring and Orton goes out with him. Orton tears the announce table apart and the referee goes out to follow them. Cena shoves Orton into the ref, whose head hits the ring steps. Cena grabs Orton and attempts to AA him through the table, but Orton escapes and drops Cena over the table with an AA. Orton grabs a wooden table from under the ring, sets it up and then hits another AA through that table. Orton throws Cena back in the ring, awaits for him to get up and drops the champ with an RKO. Orton covers Cena and a new referee runs down to count it. Cena kicks out before 3. Orton stands up and argues with the referee over the count, meanwhile behind them. Cena has picked up the title. Cena runs and goes to hit Orton, but Orton dodged the shot and the referee gets hit instead. Cena turns back around to get RKO'd. Orton pins Cena again and has the match won again. Then a bunch of guys in suits instead of paramedics run down to check on the referee Cena just blasted. (Fuck that first ref I guess). Orton gets (understandably) pissed and starts RKOing every suit in the ring, one of them being Nick Aldis. Orton backs up towards a corner and takes a run at Cena, going for a punt. But R-Truth slides in, and he begs for Orton not to punt his childhood hero. Orton drops Truth with an RKO. This small distraction allows Cena to low blow Orton. Cena picks the title back up and cracks Orton in the head with it. The first ref climbs back in the ring, counts the slow 3 to give Cena the win. So, yeah, a lot of overbooking. Like an insane amount of overbooking, lots of finishers were hit that day. But I think it works because this audience was soooo into it. And at the end of the day, thats what matters most.

My Rating: ***3/4

Cagematch Rating: 6.56

My Rating: 9/10

Okay, okay. I can explain my rating. And I'll do it match by match. The Fatal 4-Way was fun to watch and got the show off to a good start. Lyra and Becky stole the show in a match that not only elevates Lyra, but the Women’s IC Title (which desperately needed it). The worst match on the card is Dom vs Penta and even that match is decent. Gunther vs Pat exceeds expectations and provides an entertaining squash. Cena and Orton also exceeds expectations, even if it is overbooked and at the very least, the crowd is never silent. They were into every match. Any way you slice it, thats a great show.

So the night begins with a promo because of course it does. Even on PPV, we couldn't escape from a fucking Authority promo opening. Vince McMahon actually is the one who calls Triple H & Stephanie out. And then he calls John Cena out and all of them just talk about the same shit they talked about for the whole buildup before finally getting to the point of this long boring promo. For Vince to add one more stipulation and that is if the Authority lose, the only person who can bring them back is Cena.

Match 1: WWE Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match - The Miz & Damien Mizdow def. Goldust & Stardust (c), The Usos & Los Matadores (15:24)

1000019777.jpg

So after a boring ass promo to start the event, we get a boring ass 4-Way. Mizdow is the highlight of this match. Hilariously though, JBL tears apart the tag rules immediately. “Why would you tag anyone but your own partner?” And I would just like to say thank you Bradshaw for saying what I've been saying for years! Mizdow is the one and only person this audience gives a shit about. And the only thing he does the whole match is bump when Miz bumps, they keep teasing us. When is Mizdow gonna get in the ring. Miz finally tags in Mizdow, who runs to the other side of the ring, as if he's setting something up, only for Goldust to tag himself in. And then Goldie and Starry start to grind (Insert Matador here) into the mat. And its putting me to sleep. And it feels like it goes on forever. Like, please hot tag someone Diego or Fernando, whichever you are! Stardust knocks one of the Matadors off the apron, forcing the one in the ring to tag in an Uso. (Not knowing the difference between 2 people on 2 different teams is rough). The Usos thankfully pick up the pace. Miz and Goldust are on the outside and The Usos pull out a double dive onto them over the ropes. Stardust springboards off the ropes back into The Usos. El Torito gets in the ring and a Matador back body drops over the ropes onto (insert Uso here), Miz and Stardust. But they all catch him and then the Matador leaps out on top of them all. When we go back in the ring, Goldust has the other Matador on the top rope, so his partner comes to his rescue. Goldust has Diego (I'm just throwing out guesses at this point) set for a back suplex, while Fernando has Goldust set up for one too. Stardust comes in and powerbombs Fernando, giving us a big tower of doom spot. Usos superkick Stardust out and one of them heads up to hit a Splash on Goldust. Miz pulls Uso off the cover and slams his shoulder into the post. Mizdow tags himself in and gets in just to cover Goldust. Mizdow gets the win all by himself! Hooray!

My Rating: ***

Match 2: Survivor Series Tag Team Elimination Match - Alicia Fox, Natalya, Naomi & Emma def. Paige, Summer Rae, Layla & Cameron (14:22)

1000019778.jpg

Rough. Thats how I would describe this match. Somehow goes longer than that fucking 14-women tag from Survivor Series ‘13, but make no mistake, this match sucks. I'll give it to them, they were trying, but oof this was awful. I may also take issue that Fox is “leading” a team that she is the worst wrestler in. I would just go over the important but the only noteworthy details are the eliminations. Naomi eliminates Cameron first a back rollup. Alicia eliminates Layla next with a backbreaker. Summer Rae taunts the crowd and Paige yells at her to focus and Natalya knocks Summer right off the apron. Paige throws Summer back inside and she's pretty quickly taken care of by Emma with a Surfboard. Paige sees she's the only one left and makes an attempt to leave. But she's brought back to the ring. She tries to pull off a miracle, but she's eliminated by Naomi after she threw her ass at her face. Clean sweep for Fox's team. I would say that makes Paige look bad but I don't think anyone in this match looked particularly good.

My Rating: *1/2

Match 3: Bray Wyatt def. Dean Ambrose via DQ (14:02)

1000019779.jpg

Do you ever just look back on a feud and think “what wasted potential.” Thats how I felt watching this. This should've been better considering they were the most over guys on the roster. And considering that this is the only other match worth tuning in for, it needed to be a little better than it was. I'll tell you what it didn't need was a fucking DQ finish! Seriously? There aren't even any titles at stake! What a cop out. This is just a “lets let our fists do the talking” kinda match, but it never really feels like it finds a groove. Its an even match the whole time pretty much, but the story never really progresses past “Ahhh we're so wacky! Blehlelelele.” Bray ends up taking Dean out to the floor and dropping him on the steps with a uranage. Bray throws Dean back in the ring and covers him, but Dean kicks out and and Bray leaves the ring to grab a mic and he says “why are you doing this? We could've ruled the world together. Nobody could touch us.” Classic villain line yada yada. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me considering he actually helped Seth win the Hell in a Cell Match, not Dean. Bray rolls back out to grab a steel chair and throws it in. Dean picks it up first. And they give us the same spot from WrestleMania with John Cena. But Dean actually strikes Bray with the chair and gets himself disqualified. Laaaaame! Dean starts to beat up Bray with the chair and gives him a Dirty Deeds on to it. He grabs a table from under the ring and puts Bray through it with an elbow drop. Dean grabs another table and several chairs from under the ring and buries Bray underneath them all. Dean then pulls out this gigantic ladder and sets it up in the ring… just to climb it and pose. Yep, that's all he does with it. All that setup to do nothing. I said out loud “Oh okay.” Thats… hold on, take it away, Randy. (STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!)

My Rating: ***1/4

Match 4: Adam Rose & The Bunny def. Heath Slater & Titus O'Neil (2:36)

1000019780.jpg

An impromptu match because WWE had no idea how else to fill time and because Heath and Titus interrupted Adam and his posse while they were playing with toys… Say what you want about today's ads, its nowhere near as cringy as this. Some people not be aware that the Bunny is actually Justin Gabriel. Because this match is so short, I can review it real quick. Adam Rose starts the match and gets beat up. He tags in the Bunny, who beats up Heath and Titus. Adam Rose tries to get back in. He's just yelling at Justin in a bunny suit to tag back in as he holds his hand out and the Bunny beats Slater after a missile dropkick. What a waste of PPV time.

My Rating: DUD

So right after that, we get an interview with Roman Reigns via satellite who they say is resting comfortably from home. But then Roman comes up on the titantron and he's just sitting in front of a black background. At home you say? Roman, what exactly does the inside of your house look like? Nonetheless, they ask questions, Roman talks. I didn't bother to remember most of it, but there is one line that stuck with me just because it was so fucking bad. Roman goes, “do you wanna know what I would do if I was there?” And then he asks again as if the audience asked what. And Roman goes… “I would cock this here fist…” holds up his fist “and I would make it rain up in that bitch”... Huh? What? Excuse me? Pardon? Pontificate? Guys, that might actually be even worse than suffering succotash. What in tarnation does that fucking mean? No wonder we all turned on this guy. I think this is the point we all realized, “oh no, this guy actually sucks without The Shield.” Meanwhile, Seth and Dean just finished having the feud of the year.

Match 5: Divas Championship Match - Nikki Bella def. AJ Lee (c) (0:34)

1000019781.jpg

Whats even cringier than that though? This match. God, this sucks. And its worse that it starts an almost year long reign of terror. They had AJ Lee, the longest reigning Divas Champion at that time, lose to a kiss and a backbreaker. If you don't remember, let me give you the very brief rundown. Brie Bella was in Nikki's corner and got on the apron as soon as the bell rang, grabbed AJ and kissed her. Nikki knocks AJ down with a forearm and hits her with the Rack Attack to win. Criiiiiiinge.

Main Event: Survivor Series Tag Team Elimination Match - Team Cena (John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, Ryback & Erick Rowan) def. Team Authority (Seth Rollins, Luke Harper, Kane, Rusev & Mark Henry) (43:05)

1000019776.jpg

So after sitting through two hours of a bad show, its finally time for the match this entire event was sold on. This might be the closest WWE has ever felt to an anime to be honest. This was epic. Of course, the stipulation to this match was that if Team Authority lost, then the Authority would lose their power and if Team Cena lost, all of Cena's teammates would be fired. So a lot was at stake in this. Legitimately, this match is a contender for best Survivor Series Elimination Match of all time. So many times the pendulum swings in the favor of one team and then the other. An epic power struggle. Big Show and Mark Henry start the match off and Triple H hypes Henry up. Only for Mark to run right into a punch from Big Show, who pins and eliminates him right away. A minute in and Team Authority is down 4-5. Triple H and Stephanie haven't even gotten off the apron yet. A few minutes later, we get a staredown and they tease us with a Rowan/Harper face off. The crowd is getting hyped up for this, and Seth tags himself in and the crowd goes “boooooo.” Ryback gets tagged in and he runs through most of Team Authority, Seth, Luke and Kane before Rusev gets in. And the big bulls of the team face off. Ryback hits Rusev with a big Meathook Clothesline but right before he can hit Shell Shock, Kane comes in and boots him in the face. And then chaos erupts. The other team members get in and start fighting, everyone going outside. But Seth makes it back inside and Curb Stomps Ryback, allowing Rusev to drop Ryback with a Machka kick and eliminates him. Its kinda funny how most of the build up to this was spent by Cena and HHH trying to recruit Ryback, and Ryback ends up being the first on his team to be eliminated. But I also think its a pretty good idea. Cena probably put a lot of his chips on Ryback taking them to victory. And now he was out. Some amount of minutes pass and Dolph Ziggler winds up getting the isolation treatment from the opposing team, nothing really of note. Dolph pops off a DDT on Rusev and puts an arm over his chest. Harper breaks up the pinfall and Cena gets in, hits an AA on him. Kane gets in and Chokeslams Cena. Big Show comes in and Chokeslams Kane. Seth Rollins springboards in and knees Big Show in the face. Rowan comes in and tries a Chokebomb on Seth, but Seth lands behind Rowan on his feet and stumbles Rowan back towards the ropes. Rowan back body drops Seth over the ropes into the crowd of people outside. Rusev takes Rowan out with a spinning heel kick. Dolph goes for the Famouser, but Rusev catches him in powerbomb position before tossing him into the pile outside. Rusev heads outside to tear apart the announce tables and drags Dolph over. Rusev lays Dolph on one of the tables and tries to crush him with a leap off the other table. But Dolph moved out of the way and Rusev alone goes through the table. The referee now remembers he has a job to do and starts counting them out. Dolph makes it back in at 9, Rusev doesn't make it back in at all. So now, both teams' heaviest hitters are out. Dolph manages to escape a Chokeslam from Kane and tags Cena in. Cena hits Kane with all 5 moves of doom, only to get Curb Stomped by an illegal Seth Rollins. Cena and Kane tag in both Rowan and Harper and finally get the showdown people wanted earlier. Rowan gets the better of Harper. This man tosses Harper into the corner upside down and spin kicks him. Kane comes in a goosles Rowan. But Redbeard pries Kane’s hand off his throat. But Seth springboards in and knees Rowan in the face. Thats followed by a Discus Clothesline by Harper which eliminates Rowan. Big Show gets in the ring beside Cena as Seth, Harper and Kane all stand in the ring because the referee, once again, is forgetting to do his job. Big Show turns to Cena and KOs him. Big Show, the man with 1,000 turns, turns on Team Cena. Seriously, you'd think people would stop trusting this guy at some point. Seth covers Cena and eliminates him. Big Show walks over to shake Triple H's hand. And then he leaves. Which means Team Cena's fate rests on the shoulders of Dolph Ziggler. This final 20 minutes is so… Fucking good. I used the word epic earlier. This is when the epic happens. This is one of those times where being a wrestling fan is worth it. I didn't get to see this live, but I remember refreshing the wikipedia (yes I know) page every 2 minutes, because those editors are on that shit quick, just to find out what was happening. I saw Dolph was down 1-to-3 and thought it was all over. Dolph is thrown back in the ring by Kane and now the 3 remaining members of Team Authority just toy with him and taunt, adding salt in the wound before putting him down. Michael Cole has already counted Dolph out. But Dolph gets a rush of adrenaline, hits a crossbody on Kane. He hits him with a superkick and a Zig Zag. Dolph eliminates Kane! There is a very brief celebratory cheer from the crowd and Cole, before Harper drops Dolph with a big boot. Dolph rolls to the outside and Harper takes him out with a suicide dive. Harper throws Dolph back inside and continues to kick out of Harper's offense. Triple H yells at Harper to finish this, but as Luke is picking Dolph off the mat, Dolph rolls Harper up and eliminates him! Its one on one! Dolph vs Seth. Dolph is one elimination left from pulling off a miracle! Dolph said in a backstage segment earlier in the show that he would do everything in his power to survive. The crowd is starting chant “Ziggler, Ziggler!” Seth beats on and stomps him out. Dolph rolls Seth up in a small package, gets a 2 count. Dolph hit a leaping DDT and spikes Seth. Dolph covers Seth and Triple H gets on the apron, as if he's about to do something but Seth kicks out. HHH is sweating bullets whereas 10 minutes ago, him and Steph were so confident and already celebrating. Seth picks Dolph up and buckle bombs him in the corner. Seth goes up, tries for a big Curb Stomp off the top rope. But Dolph moves out of the way and hits a Famouser, getting a 2 count off it. J&J Security try to distract Dolph, he knocks him off the apron. He dodges a splash in the corner and drops Seth with a Zig Zag! Dolph is about to win, but HHH pulls the referee out the ring and knocks him out. J&J Security get in the ring and double team Dolph, who shoves Mercury into Stephanie who got on the apron, Steph lands on top of HHH and yet she's knocked out for like 10 minutes. Dolph force feeds J&J a couple superkicks and goes to hit Seth, who ducks and gives Dolph another Buckle Bomb. Seth tries for a Curb Stomp again. Dolph dodges again and hits another Zig Zag! A new referee runs out to make the count. But HHH stops the count again and tosses the new ref outside. HHH and beats up Ziggler and drops him with a Pedigree. HHH drags Seth over Dolph's body and calls out a new referee, Scott Armstrong. But just before the 3 count, Everyone's eyes are drawn to the entrance way… Some music never heard before. And well they give it away by playing the music video on the tron, but its none other than STING! The man that nobody thought would ever enter a WWE ring, Sting was here! He knocks out The Authority's referee and gets in. He stares a hole through Triple H for like 2 minutes. HHH makes the first move, but Sting swings his bat into HHH's gut and drops him with a Scorpion Death Drop! Sting pulls Dolph on top of Seth and then leaves. The first referee makes it back inside and counts 3. Dolph Ziggler wins! The Authority is gone… kinda. This match ages worse than milk. But Dolph did it! Dolph fought his way 3-on-1 to victory! How the hell did they not push this guy to the moon and beyond after this? God damn, he deserved it. Now, no match is immune from criticism. There's just a couple things I would've changed here. The first one being Cena's teammates. Cena's entire team should've been guys that the Authority had screwed over during the last year. I know Bryan and Roman were out, but Dean Ambrose should've been in this match at the very least. Secondly, the finish. Sting's debut was awesome, I wouldn't change that. But I would at least have had him come out after the match. Dolph beating Seth on his own would've made for an unbelievably cool moment. Also not a fan of how Seth and Dolph basically took a nap for 5 minutes. Really making me suspend all the disbelief. But this match is nearly flawless. I loved this so much. This to me, is up there for the best Survivor Series ending of all time.

My Rating: ****3/4

Cagematch Rating: 6.75

My Rating: 6/10

Okay, perhaps I'm being generous to this show. This is for sure, a one match show. And yeah, that one match is amazing. But the rest of this event is seriously lacking and bordering on cringy. Thats the inherent problem when most of your star power is in the main event. I'll end it on this, the main event by itself is better than the entirety of many shows I've seen so far. That coupled with an epic debut of Sting.

I'm kind of spoiling what my next review will be about. But I just rewatched the Rollins & Ambrose match from TLC 2018. Um. So please help me out, why does everyone hate this match so much because I really don't think it was that bad. Legitimately asking.

Match 1: Mixed Match Challenge Final Match - R-Truth & Carmella def. Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox (5:50)

1000019930.jpg

This feels like it was meant to be a kickoff match. Even on a card with some underwhelming matchups, this feels out of place. The bit where Truth and Mella call for a dance break and the Singh Brothers get in to dance too is fun. Truth throws both Singhs out. Thats about the only part of the match I bothered recollecting. Carmella reverses a horrible rollup into the Cone of Silence. And Fox taps out. Truth and Mella win the Mixed Match Challenge. So not only do they get #30 in their respective Rumbles, but they get all expenses paid vacation to anywhere of their choosing. So where does Truth decide to go? WWE Headquarters in Stanford, Connecticut! Now why the hell would they fire this guy. Comedically, this man can't be touched. Still, on a card this fucking huge, I didn't need to see this match included. Which is sadly, going to be the theme.

My Rating: *

Match 2: SmackDown Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match - The Bar (c) def. The Usos & The New Day (Kofi & Xavier) (12:15)

1000019931.jpg

I am happy that this was included though. Imagine if they had made this a Ladder Match though. That would've been spectacular. Once again though, the 2 legal men rule in a Triple Threat bothers me. Its like JBL said on the last show. “Why would you tag out to anyone but your own teammate?” The match starts with Sheamus and Kofi, but a few minutes into the match, all 6 guys get in and get a spot. Jey goes to dive to the outside, but Cesaro stops him dead with an uppercut. Woods comes in and sends Cesaro outside with a dropkick. Woods goes to dive, but Sheamus catches him and drops his back across his knee. The Bar start grounding Xavier, because of course, even in a 3-way we can't avoid the boring heat portion of the match. Woods manages to eventually reach Kofi. Him and Cesaro are the legal men, but Jimmy Uso tags himself in. Kofi goes for a crossbody on Cesaro, who catches him and sets him up for a suplex. Jimmy crossbody’s Kofi out of the suplex and gets a 2 count off that. The Usos start handing out superkicks to all their opponents. They drop Kofi with a double, Woods, Sheamus and finally Cesaro who leapt off the top. The Usos hit a pop up Samoan Drop. Jimmy goes up, Cesaro tags himself in the match. Jimmy hits a Splash on Kofi, but isn't the legal man now. Cesaro throws Jimmy out and gets a 2 count. Cesaro gives Kofi a big swing and locks him in the Sharpshooter. Xavier saves him by from the apron with a DDT on Cesaro. Sheamus comes in and knees Woods in the face. He goes for a Brogue Kick to Kofi, who counters it into a rollup. This is twice now where they seemed to have lost track of who's legal. Kofi hits Sheamus with Trouble in Paradise, tags Xavier in, and he leaps from the ropes to hit an elbow drop. Jey and Cesaro get in to stop the pinfall. Cesaro gives Jey an uppercut that sends him outside. Cesaro gives Jimmy a pop-up uppercut. Kofi comes in and dropkicks Cesaro to the outside before he heads up and just trust falls into Cesaro and The Usos outside. Woods goes to leap through the ropes and gets Brogue Kicked by Sheamus. Champs retain. Fun match, but it definitely felt like they were rushed, just given how many times the illegal man was actually “legal”. Fun match still.

My Rating: ***1/2

Match 3: TLC Match - Braun Strowman def. Baron Corbin (7:30)

1000019927.jpg

Oh my, how the mighty have fallen. Braun Strowman had been nerfed to the point of no return up to here. He wasn't a monster anymore, he was just another guy on the roster that definitely had no shot dethroning Brock Lesnar, who STILL had a fucking chokehold on the Universal Title. So Corbin, along with the help of Drew McIntyre & Bobby Lashley, injured Strowman's arm a month before. The special stipulation going into this match is that Corbin would lose his position as acting GM if he lost. He made poor Heath Slater a referee, that monster. Doesn't Corbin know what that ref shirt does to people? This man's got kids dammit! One tap on the shoulder and those kids are fatherless! In all seriousness, I actually hate this match. Just the laziest, intelligence insulting beatdown I've ever seen. I know what they're going for. Karmic justice for everyone Corbin has wronged. And that wouldn't so bad if it wasn't done in such a stupid way. First off, 2017 Braun Strowman would've ripped that sling off his arm and still beat Corbin's ass. That by itself was bad enough. But Strowman grabs a mic and points out that in a TLC Match, there's no disqualifications. And if somebody wanted to help him, it would be perfectly legal. So out comes Apollo Crews, Chad Gable, Bobby Roode & Finn Balor with steel chairs. Now here's my thing. Where are McIntyre & Lashley? No DQ's goes both ways. We literally watched them break Braun's arm together in a video recap before the match! Why are they not out there. And its not like they aren't around. Lashley is on the kickoff and Drew has a match later, against Finn Balor nonetheless! Where are they? Did they just hope we forgot about them? So after Heath Slater takes the referee shirt off, he decks Corbin and after they all whoop Corbin’s ass with chairs, Corbin tries to get out of there. But Kurt Angle's music hits and he walks out. Kurt grabs a chair that was set on the table beside him. Corbin looks back at the ring and back at Kurt and not at the fucking table set up next to him which has not one, but two chairs on it. Corbin actively chooses not to grab one of the chairs to his left, not even a foot away from him and instead charges at Kurt unarmed. Spoiler alert, Corbin gets his ass beat with a chair. He gets pushed back to the ring and he gets everyone's finisher. And when its over, Strowman places a foot on Baron's chest, Heath puts the referee shirt back on and counts the pinfall. Look, I love the karmic retribution trope, but it was done in such a stupid way that it pisses me off.

Match 4: Tables Match - Natalya def. Ruby Riott (12:40)

1000019926.jpg

The (horrible) build up to this match is basically the Riott Squad reminding Natalya, “hey, isn't your dad dead? Remember your dead dad Natalya?” There was really no reason to do this either. Did Nattie spit in your lucky charms or something. The Riott Squad come out with Ruby, carrying a table with a decal of Jim Neidhart on it. Getting super weird about this. Is there an actual reason they hate Natalya this much or…? There is already a table set up on the outside near the announce tables. Ruby is on the apron and Nattie runs the ropes, trying to ram her shoulder into Ruby. But Liv hops on the apron, shoves Ruby out of the way, and Liv crashes through the table outside. My main problem with this match is that there's a lot of setup. And its so slow. And kinda corny if I'm being honest. Nattie sets up a table on the outside and body slams Sarah Logan through it. Liv and Sarah won't be getting involved anymore. Ruby grabs Nattie and forces her face first into Jim “The Table” Neidhart. Ruby props the table up in the corner. But Nattie double legs Ruby and puts her in the Sharpshooter, but Ruby crawls to the table in the corner, and pushes it. The top half of the table hits Natalya in the back of her head which was smart, I liked that. Ruby sets the table back up and Natalya picks Ruby up on her shoulders from behind, but then she knocks the table over on its side! Whyyyy you stupid… then Natalya electric chairs Ruby on the mat as opposed to the table that was in prime position for someone to go through it. Natalya goes outside to grab a new table which has a decal of Ruby on it. Okay, this is getting stupid now. And once its set up, they tease this spot for forever. Oh and Nattie pulls out a jacket which looks like one Jim used to wear and puts it on. Thats was cool at least. And this finish is not bad either. They just take forever to finally get to it. Ruby goes to head scissor Nattie off the top rope through this table, but Natalya hangs on to her and powerbombs her through the table from the ropes. Good finish at least but overall, really boring and corny.

My Rating: **1/4

Match 5: Finn Balor def. Drew McIntyre (12:20)

1000019928.jpg

This was a decent match. They had some okay chemistry here and maybe if given a main event slot, they could've really cooked. Quick in the match, Finn chops Drew, and it has no effect on him. Drew grabs Finn by the throat and throws him into the corner. But the second time it happens, Finn comes out of the corner with a low dropkick to Drew's knee. So the story of the match here is Finn going after the big man's knees while Drew bullies Finn. Finn attempts to go up early, but Drew grabs him by the throat and brings him back down. And then just throws Finn over his head across the ring. Drew starts to grind Finn into the mat, but Finn starts building his big babyface comeback. He clotheslines Drew over the top rope and dives over onto Drew. Finn goes for a running dropkick but Drew catches him with a backbreaker. Drew starts to talk some shit to Finn. Drew runs at Finn who was in the corner. Finn gets his feet up to try and kick Drew, who catches his feet and sets up for a reverse Alabama Slam. But Finn raises his upper body and counters it into a victory roll. Finn goes up by Drew meets him up there and hits a Celtic Cross off the middle rope. Balor rolls outside where Drew follows. Finn pulls the Fit Finlay trick and trapping Drew between the apron and the curtain. Finn gets on the apron and goes for a running kick to the face. Drew catches his foot and swings it back, causing Finn to fall face first on the apron. Drew picks Finn up off the floor by the chin and drops him with a headbutt. Drew picks Finn back up and throws him into the ring. The referee turns his back and Dolph Ziggler hits Drew with a superkick. Dolph grabs a chair and Drew kicks it back in his face. He tosses Ziggler in the ring, having completely forgotten he's wrestling Finn Balor apparently. He's holding the chair to his chest and Finn dropkicks the chair into his chest, Drew goes down. Finn goes up, hits a Coup de Grace to get the W.

My Rating: ***1/4

Match 6: Chairs Match - Rey Mysterio def. Randy Orton (11:30)

1000019922.jpg

A fine match on paper, but its pretty boring. It doesn't take very long for either one to use a chair. How could they not? There's only a shit ton outside the ring for them. Rey is the one who uses a chair first, swinging it several times into his back. Rey goes for a Sabu leap off the chair spot in the corner, but Randy dodges and swings the chair into Rey's back. Rey baseball slides Randy's feet out on the apron, Randy's face hits the apron. Rey takes the chance to grab a chair and like its a surfboard, slides under the ropes with it and splashes Randy on the outside. Rey sits Randy on a chair and from the apron attempts a running senton, but Orton dodges it and Rey's ass hits the chair. The thing about this match is whenever Rey is the one on top, the pace is quick, whereas whenever Orton is on top, the pace is slow and dull. Orton the wedges a chair in the corner. But Rey makes him pay by head scissoring (hehe) him into it. But Randy quickly takes control again with a powerslam. Rey pops out a beautiful counter out of the draping DDT. Rey swings his lower body inside, tripping Orton into the second rope, without even touching the mat. I just wanted to point that out because it was such a good counter. Rey misses the 619 attempt, springboards in, and Orton tosses a chair at him. The finish is pretty good. Orton sets up four chairs in the ring next to each other and looks like he's gonna try an RKO. Four chairs seems a bit excessive. I think that's just gonna hurt you more, but okay. Rey escapes the RKO attempt and trips Randy up again, face first into the chair. Orton sits on one, and Rey walks along two and victory rolls Orton up to get the pinfall. Like the Tables Match earlier, boring match but sweet finish.

Match 7: Raw Women's Championship Match - Ronda Rousey (c) def. Nia Jax (10:50)

1000019925.jpg

An honestly underrated match. I think I actually liked this one slightly more than their MITB match. Maybe its because there's a face/heel dynamic. Although both of them felt like heels at this point. Both women come into this match pretty cocky. Nia picks Ronda up and throws back into a corner and Ronda fires off some quick jabs. Ronda brings Nia down to the mat and tries to lock in the Armbar early, but Nia picks her up off the mat and slams her back into it. And now Nia starts to beat down on Ronda. But Ronda manages to get Nia in a Guillotine but nearly manages to reverse it into a suplex, Ronda counters that into a sleeper. Nia tries to throw Ronda off, but Ronda hangs on to her like a spider monkey and tries to lock on the armbar on the mat. Nia slides outside and flings Ronda into the barricade. Ronda manages to turn the ride by reversing a powerbomb into a hurricanrana. Nia rams herself shoulder first in the post and falls to the outside. Ronda climbs the top rope and hits a crossbody from up there. They get back in the ring and Ronda gets fired up. She starts firing shots off, hits a step up knee to her face. And then drops Ronda with a step up punch. Ronda goes up for another crossbody, but Nia rolls back and picks up, hitting a Samoan Drop and gets a two count. Nia picks Ronda up and tries to hit a Samoan Drop off the ropes, but Ronda escapes and powerbombs Nia (kinda) off the ropes. Ronda goes for the Armbar. But Tamina distracts Ronda cause babyfaces are so easily distracted. Nia clubs her in the back. And holds up her fist. She goes to punch Ronda, but Ronda catches it and brings Nia down on the mat. Gives Nia’s fist a kiss and locks in the armbar, and Nia taps out immediately. Ronda retains after an actually really good match.

My Rating: ***1/2

Match 8: WWE Championship Match - Daniel Bryan (c) def. AJ Styles (23:55)

1000019923.jpg

Ah hell yeah, now we're cooking. This and the main event were all people were talking about afterward for good reason. This was a great match. Admittedly, I actually feel like it took a while for them to start really getting good, much of the early part is set up and getting to the latter half. I love Bryan being a cocky prick at the beginning. He tries to rile up AJ up. AJ goes for a forearm, leaping over the ropes and getting a kick to the torso from Bryan. Bryan works over AJ’s ribs, AJ would gradually fight up, but gets dropped again by Bryan. Bryan starts hitting dropkicks in the corner, and Styles comes out with a big clothesline which flips Bryan back. That was what AJ needed and he starts to get more aggressive. Bryan rolls outside but AJ goes after him. Bryan starts to beg off. It doesn't work. Bryan charges AJ, who hits an ushigoroshi. Styles goes for a flip off the ropes into the reverse DDT, but Bryan reverses, knees AJ in the ribs before throwing back by his neck, good lord. Bryan gives AJ the kicks to the chest and a kick to the head. Styles gets on the apron and springboards in, nearly gets a kick to the ribs, but AJ catches his foot and hits a dragon screw. Styles then starts going after Bryan's knee. Bryan goes for a hurricanrana off the top rope, but Styles, on landing, then sets up for a Styles Clash. Bryan escapes and boots AJ off him, so AJ turns him over and applies a one leg Boston Crab and wrenches back on that thing. Bryan reverses it and manages to get AJ in the Lebell Lock. The two start going back and forth, trading pins and shots. Kick to the head, pele kick. Bryan tries for a running dropkick in the corner and Styles drops him with a dropkick. AJ heads to the apron and hits a springboard 450! AJ gets Bryan in the Calf Crusher and again, wrenches on that leg. Bryan is able to roll on his back. He rolls out and whips AJ towards the barricade, but AJ leaps over it and hits a forearm off the barricade. Styles tosses Bryan back inside and goes to the apron. Styles springboards in, Bryan dodges. Bryan tries a running knee, but misses. AJ brings Bryan down into a small package, but Bryan rolls so it puts Styles on his back, referee counts the pin and Bryan wins with a small package. Oh okay. Anticlimactic finish really. Overall though, awesome. A great straight up wrestling match.

My Rating: ****1/4

Match 9: Intercontinental Championship Match - Dean Ambrose def. Seth Rollins (c) (23:00)

1000019929.jpg

Oooookay… I'm gonna come in with a hot take. I actually like this match. It wasn't that bad but I have a feeling I'm alone on this one. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke… I'll admit I did watch it again before coming back to write this. I can definitely see why people don't like this match. The pace is pretty slow, its not the fastest match in the world. Putting 10 fucking matches on a PPV, doing this late and right after the Bryan/AJ match also doesn't do it many favors. And also, Dean was on his way out the door so I bet he felt like anything he did at this point for this company didn't matter anymore. But Seth and Dean's chemistry was incredible. I'm sure if Dean stayed, they would've had many many many more matches together. So even on autopilot, Dean could have a good match with Seth. The only other problem is that this was supposed to be a blood feud and they just had a regular ass match. Like fuck man, at least try to make it look like you hate each other. First mistake was starting with a collar and elbow tie up. Okay, weird way to start a blood feud match. Rollins sends Ambrose outside early but he takes a run at him and Ambrose picks him up and dumps him chest first on the table. Early into the match, Ambrose grinds Seth in the mat and admittedly this portion of the match isn't that great. But I also disagree that a slow pace automatically equals bad. Ambrose hurts Rollins’ knee and puts him in the Texas Cloverleaf. Rollins reaches the ropes and moves out to the apron. Ambrose goes to ram his shoulder into him, but Seth gets up and drops a leg across the back of his neck. Seth tries for a suicide dive, but Dean punches him in the face as he tries it. Dean runs back inside and gets a slingblade. Seth now starts to get a comeback going. Seth clotheslines Dean over the top and this time hits his suicide dive. Dean moves to the front of the ring and Seth gets him with another suicide dive. Seth clutches at his knee on both landings. Dean tries to hit a superplex off the top, but Seth turns it around and sunset flips over him and Seth collapses to the mat after landing on his knee. Dean laughs to the crowd. But then funnily, Seth gets the anime strength and stands back up, picks Dean up on his shoulders and throws him into the corner with a buckle bomb. The two begin trading blows back and forth. It begins to turn into a fight that ends in both running the ropes and going down as they both attempt a running crossbody. The crowd sounds like they're starting to wake a little bit. Both men stand back and start trading shots back and forth again, but more wildly. Seth headbutts Dean, upward kicks him in the chest and goes for a roundhouse. Dean ducks it and hits whats kinda like a glam slam. Dean goes up and Seth meets him there, looking for a suplex, but Dean shoves him off. Seth lands crotch first on the ropes and Dean takes him down with a clothesline. Seth dodges a kick from Dean and drops him with a Ripcord knee. Seth heads up and goes for a Frog Splash but Ambrose gets his knees up and rolls him up in a small package. Dean heads back up, only for Seth to meet him there and hit a suplex/falcon arrow combo. Seth sets Dean up for a superkick, but Dean puts his fist out to remind Seth of the Shield. (Admittedly I don't like this part either, I think its dumb). Dean shouldn't be begging Seth off. Annoying wrestling trope is when someone turns into a coward as a heel when they had balls of steel as a babyface. And Seth actually stops for a moment. Seth elbows him in the face and kicks him in the face. Dean rolls outside and Seth follows him. Seth picks him up and buckle bombs him into the barricade before throwing him back inside. Seth says that he didn't want it to come to this. And ends his speech on “this is for all of us and for Roman Reigns.” Seth comes off the ropes and Dean gets him with a Dirty Deeds and covers Seth to take the win. So having now seen this match twice now in the past week and still liking it, that proves its not a fluke. I can definitely understand why the match gets dunked on. I guess this is just going to be my guilty pleasure match. I think its funny when the referee hands Ambrose the title, he has this look on his face like he doesn't give a shit, and he probably didn't because he said he made the decision that he was already gone at this point. If it were me, I would've probably laughed like “I'm leaving and they put this belt on me, lol.”

Main Event: SmackDown Women's Championship Triple Threat TLC Match - Asuka def. Becky Lynch (c) & Charlotte Flair (21:45)

1000019924.jpg

After a long and exhausting event, we come to the main event. Asuka, Becky and Charlotte in the first ever women's TLC Match. Could it live up to the hype? Hell yeah it does and even exceeds expectations. This kicked ass! And we got the best possible outcome from it. Which was an extreme rarity in WWE at this point. The first casualty is Becky Lynch, who gets pulled off the top by Asuka and lands lower back first on a ladder laying down. That by itself would've taken me out for weeks and it only gets more insane from there. Charlotte stops Asuka from going up the ladder, so Asuka lifts Charlotte off the ladder and powerbombs her into a table set up in the corner. We are less than 10 minutes in ladies and gentlemen. Becky comes back to stop Asuka from climbing the ladder, but then Asuka does the same. Asuka hip attacks Becky off the apron and Charlotte comes and slams a chair into Asuka's back, halting her onslaught. Charlotte pops out a moonsault on Becky and Asuka to the outside. Charlotte grabs a table from under the ring and sets it up outside, but while she's doing that, Becky has gotten back up and starts wailing on her challengers with a chair. Charlotte throws Becky to the barricade and Asuka on top of one of the commentary tables Becky takes Charlotte out with a chair and lays her on the table next to Asuka. Becky grabs this huge ladder from far away, sets it up and drops her ass on Charlotte's chest. Asuka moves out of the way, but Charlotte is the one who takes the full weight of Becky as the tables collapses and I hear Charlotte give an audible “Oh my god!” Asuka gets back in the ring and starts her way up the ladder (slowly to give Becky time to get in). Becky stops Asuka's ascent. Charlotte, somehow not dead, gets back in with a kendo stick and wails Asuka and Becky both with it. She beats Asuka mercilessly with it until she's grabbed by Becky and given an exploder against the barricade. Asuka grabs the kendo stick and swings it over and over again on Becky. Asuka throws her arms up triumphantly, but then Charlotte Spears her against the barricade. It doesn't break. Fuck it, it still looks cool. Becky tries to take the chance to climb the ladder in the ring, but Charlotte stops her. The two go at it. Becky throws Charlotte face first into the ladder. Charlotte on one knee, has a first up like she's still ready to go. The two fight to the outside. Charlotte lights Becky up with chop after chop. Charlotte sets Becky up on the table she set up earlier. Slaps her in the fucking face, and goes to the top rope, to hit a senton through the table. This match rules! All three women are down. Flair is the first to start stirring. She sets the ladder back up and climbs it, but is met up there by Asuka. As Asuka and Flair fight, Becky sets up another ladder beside that one. Charlotte elbows Asuka off and turns her attention on Becky and moves over to the 2nd ladder. Now, I am not crazy about this finish. Asuka winning on her own would've been such a feel good moment and something she needed considering how far down her booking spiraled after WrestleMania. Ronda goes back to the ring and pushes over the ladder Becky and Charlotte were on, costing them both the title and letting Asuka take it for herself. So the ending aside, this match was awesome and I love the result. Asuka ends the last PPV of 2018 as a champion!

Cagematch Rating: 6.75

My Rating: 8.5/10

I kinda struggled to find what I thought was a fair rating for this show. On one hand, it has some insult to the fans intelligence booking, an overflowing card with matches I couldn't care less for. I'm sorry, but I did not need to watch the Mixed Match Challenge or Natalya and Ruby have a Table Match. Everything after the Chairs Match is good though. At least in my personal opinion. I can definitely see why it has the rating it does. (And I'm actually surprised its as high as it is). The booking is weird and all over the place, as is the match quality. But considering the second half of the event is just the last 4 matches, I really started to enjoy myself at that point.

Match 1: ECW Championship Match - Matt Hardy (c) def. Mark Henry (8:10)

1000020070.jpg

Not to much to write home about, but it is about as good as you could expect I suppose. Matt Hardy is the obvious underdog in this match. And they make it clear over and over on commentary. Mark has the clear advantage. He just bullies and grinds Matt down to the mat. But Matt goes after Mark's knee. Thats how Matt is able to drag Mark down and stay in the match, attack his knee. Mark would just swat Matt away with a punch, a push and even gets his leg up for a big boot. Mark hits a big splash on Matt for a 2 count. Matt goes for the Twist of Fate, but Mark shoves him off and goes for a World's Strongest Slam, but Matt escapes and gets Mark with the Twist of Fate to retain. Not most noteworthy match but works well in presenting Matt as a worthy champion.

My Rating: **1/2

Match 2: Women's Championship Match - Beth Phoenix (c) def. Candice Michelle (4:50)

1000020071.png

An actually decent match for being only five minutes. They were walking so well, you probably could've given them 10 minutes. When the bell rings, Beth grabs Candice by her top, as if she's about to bully her. But Candice swats her hand away, dropkicks her knee out and then drops her with another dropkick to the head. Candice catches Beth off guard early and has Beth on the ropes. But Beth lifts Candice up in Alabama Slam position and slams her back into the turnbuckle. Beth then starts to work on Candice's shoulder that she injured and that took her out for most of the year. But then Beth changes it up by going to the top rope and it costs her as Candice shakes the ropes to crotch Beth on the top corner. Beth hangs upside down from the corner and Candice hits a running dropkick to the back of her head. Candice covers her and nearly has her until Santino pulls Beth out of the ring to save her. Candice goes to confront Santino and Beth throws her back inside. Santino accidentally trips Beth, distracting her enough for Candice to take advantage and roll her up for a two. Candice goes for an Unprettier, but Beth counters it into a Glam Slam to retain her title, after her idiot boyfriend nearly lost. This match wasn't half bad. These two probably could've worked a really good match if they were allowed to.

Match 3: Rey Mysterio def. Kane via DQ (10:15)

1000020072.png

The special stipulation heading in to this match is that if Rey lost the match, he would have to unmask. Well that makes the end to this match pointless as hell. The early part of the match, Kane tries to bully Rey around and rocks Rey with a couple big shots. Rey springboards off the ropes and hits a dropkick that sends Kane over the top rope, and hits the ropes only to run into a Kane big boot. Rey springboards in from the apron and dropkicks Kane to the second rope. Rey goes for the 619, and Kane comes out with a massive clothesline. Rey reverses Kane's powerbomb with a head scissors to the outside. Rey gets Kane in a sleeper on the outside and then Kane grabs Rey and flings him off, across the barricade. Kane starts to grind Rey down in the mat until Rey hits a Destino from out of nowhere. Rey hits a moonsault from the top rope to a standing Kane, Rey's knee hits the top of Kane's head so it looks good. Rey starts picking up the pace but gets caught and hit with a sidewalk slam. Kane goes for a Chokeslam, but Rey lands on his feet and springboards to hit what I think was supposed to be a bulldog, but Kane's lands on Rey's knee. Rey clutches at his knee but still finishes the mat and hits a Splash from the apron. Kane goes for a big boot in the corner but Rey dodges and Kane steps over the ropes to the apron. Rey hits a 619 to Kane's legs, dropping the big man off the apron. Rey goes to the top rope and dives, but Kane has a steel chair and hits Rey with it, which causes the DQ finish. So Kane leaves Rey in a pretty fucked up state on the floor. Here's my thing. If Kane's entire goal was to unmask Rey Mysterio, why doesn't he do it when he's most vulnerable. Like, you lost but when was Kane ever one to follow rules (until 2013). Just take his mask now. Why not?

My Rating: **3/4

After this, we get a pointless promo. Legitimately, what stories did this advance. MVP comes out and talks about how important he is, blah blah, blah. He's not on the card, and then Randy Orton of all people interrupts him. They have a brief talk and look like they're about to fight. And then Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase and Manu come out and I roll my eyes. Like, why is this on the PPV. The crowd starts chanting boring as Cody is talking. Because it is boring. There's not really any reason for this to be on the show. Orton leaves and MVP starts trying to make friends with the trio. And DiBiase says, “fuck outta here. Your dad's not famous.” So DiBiase doesn't wanna be MVP's friend because MVP's dad wasn't a wrestler? Is this just to remind us that their dads are former wrestlers? Because this shit sucks. MVP eventually leaves. CM Punk and Kofi Kingston come out and they actually convince MVP to join them to fight against the pre-Legacy. They run to the ring, MVP slides in, but Punk and Kofi stay out and watch while MVP gets beat up by Legacy. Punk and Kofi only hop in when their backs are turned. I did not give a shit about this at all. Holy balls. On PPV? Really?

Match 4: World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contenders Match - Batista def. JBL (5:20)

1000020073.jpg

Thank fuck that this match only went 5 minutes. If these two had to wrestle each other, I'm glad that it was short. I was really hoping that this would be a fun brawl but its not. Even for 5 minutes, this is pretty boring. Batista is able to dominate JBL in the beginning, but JBL boots Batista in the head and tries to wear him down, putting me to sleep. Batista fights back though and sets up a Spear in the corner, but JBL boots him in the face and hits the ropes, but gets caught and hit with a Spinebuster. Batista picks JBL back up and hits a Batista Bomb to win. Quick match, and this looked like an easy win for Batista.

Match 5: Big Show def. The Undertaker via referee's decision (10:00)

1000020074.jpg

A boring match on paper, but this was pretty damn good. If it went much longer than this, it might have been too much but I didn't feel like this was too short or too long, just went long enough to put on a compelling big man brawl. Both men have their fists up before the bell even rings and the fight is on. Undertaker strikes first but Big Show responds with a body shot and a clothesline over the top rope. The fight continues outside with Undertaker getting the better of them. They go back in the ring. Undertaker hits the ropes but gets hit with a big clothesline that Big Show really throws himself for. Big Show starts going after the midsection of Taker. Every time Taker tries to fight back, Big Show gives him some big body blows to knock him back down. But Big Show tries for a Vader Bomb, Undertaker rolls out the way and Big Show land on his shoulder. Undertaker fires off right hands. Ducks under a couple blows from Big Show and hits a flying clothesline. Undertaker tries to go Old School, and gets caught by his throat. Big Show Chokeslams Taker and manages to get a 2 count off that. Big Show misses a punch and Undertaker goosles him. But then Big Show does the same and swats Taker's hand away. Big Show goes for a Chokeslam, but gets countered into a DDT. Undertaker backs Big Show into a corner with furious punches. The referee threatens Undertaker with a DQ. And Undertaker turns and scares the referee into the opposite end of the ring. But while neither of them are looking, Big Show rips the turnbuckle pad off the top rope. Undertaker approaches Big Show again, but Show grabs him and throws him face first into the exposed buckle. Big Show punches Undertaker in the face which drops him. Undertaker is still stirring, and uses the ropes to pull himself back up on wobbly legs. Big Show punches him again, which drops Taker face down into the mat. Big Show says one more for good measure. He pulls Undertaker's head up with one hand and punches Taker in the back of his head with the other. Referee calls for the bell and Big Show tells the referee to raise his hand. Big Show is the winner by technical knockout. I really liked this match. Its better than the match they'd have at Cyber Sunday and way better than that stupid Casket Match at Survivor Series.

Match 6: WWE Championship Match - Triple H (c) def. Jeff Hardy (18:00)

1000020075.jpg

Wow. What a match. On most nights, this would've been the match of the evening. I love the story going into this. Jeff Hardy's popularity was quickly climbing. Everyone was ready for him to be the champion. The two shake hands as the bell rings. But then Jeff turns his back on HHH, who clocks him in the back and tries to get a quick rollup on him. Jeff kicks out and HHH shrugs and laughs a bit. Jeff surprises HHH though by outwrestling him. Jeff clotheslines HHH over the top rope and hits a leaping clothesline from the apron. Jeff throws HHH back in the ring. Jeff tries to shoulder block him through the ropes, but HHH catches him and looks like he's gonna Pedigree him as Jeff's legs rest on the ropes, like how Orton delivers a DDT. But Jeff escapes and backdrops HHH on to the floor. Jeff goes for a Somersault Plancha, but Triple H dodges it and Jeff lands with a splat on the floor. HHH throws Jeff back in the ring and starts going after his back that went splat. But Jeff starts his comeback and reverses a whip into the corner. HHH goes over the top rope to the floor. Jeff makes a second attempt at the Somersault Plancha and hits it this time. Jeff gets whipped to the corner and leaps back at HHH, who I think was supposed to counter it into a Spinebuster, but it turns into him just slamming him back first in the mat which actually looked more painful. HHH sends Jeff off the ropes and hits a Spinebuster. Then he tries the Pedigree and Jeff sweeps his legs and catapults him into the corner. Jeff then pulls out Whisper in the Wind. HHH kicks out of that and Jeff is getting frustrated now. Jeff goes for a Twist of Fate, but HHH escapes and lays in the corner, but Jeff just gets him with his kick in the corner thing. Jeff goes up for a Swanton, misses it. HHH goes for a Pedigree again, Jeff spins out of it and drops HHH with a Twist of Fate. Jeff goes up one more time, now hits the Swanton, but HHH was like, “fuck your finish.” And not only kicks out, he pulls Jeff over into a crucifix pin. So not crazy about that finish, but an otherwise great match. And like I already said, on most cards, it would be match of the night. But we've still got a classic to anticipate.

Main Event: World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match - Chris Jericho (c) def. Shawn Michaels (22:20)

Another one for the Jericho/Michaels feud. There aren't a whole lot of spots necessarily, but the way they use the ladders is incredible. I love Shawn psyching Jericho out immediately with a superkick attempt. It doesn't take long for the ladders to get involved. Jericho whips Shawn towards one and he goes up a few rungs before leaping back at Jericho. Jericho puts Shawn in the Walls of Jericho outside before he brings a in the ring through the bottom and middle ropes. Shawn yanks the half of the ladder outside down. The top half hits Jericho in the face, which brings us our first casualty. The teeth of Jericho, who is already some of the blood on his face. Shawn sets a table up in the middle of the ring. Jericho takes him down and goes to catapult Shawn into the ladder, Shawn lands safely on it and starts climbing up. Jericho pushes it over as Shawn nears the top and Shawn crashes throat first on the top rope. Jericho uses the ladder to hurt Shawn and sets up another one in the corner. Shawn reverses a whip into it and Jericho gets his leg lodged between the 5th and 6th rungs. Shawn knocks the ladder over, hurting Jericho's leg in the process. Shawn starts going after Jericho's knee and sets up a ladder on the bottom rope in the corner, dripping Chris knee first across it. Shawn puts Chris in a Figure 4 near the same ladder, but when Jericho escapes, he kicks the half of the ladder so the top hits Shawn in the face. They start talking about Shawn's eye again on commentary. Jericho lays Shawn's head down between the sides of a ladder and brings the one side right down on his head, crushing it between both sides. Jericho lays a ladder down across the top rope in the corner so that the top is facing towards the inside. Jericho goes to ram Shawn into it, but Shawn manages to throw Chris at the last moment. Jericho falls over to the floor and Shawn just throws the ladder on him from inside the ring. He goes outside and brings it down across him 3 more times. Shawn lays Chris down across one of the announce tables and sets a ladder up in front of him. Chris recovers and follows Shawn up the ladder, but Shawn lets go and crossbodies Chris through the table! Both men eventually stir. Shawn grabs a ladder and heads to the top rope with it, but Chris dropkicks the ladder, Shawn gets crotched. Chris starts to climb the stood up ladder but Shawn shoves him down to the mat. Shawn hits an elbow drop, (not on the ladder as they wanted us to think). Shawn tunes up the band as he's about to hit Sweet Chin Music, Chris pulls the ladder back into Shawn's face. Chris lays the ladder across Shawn's body and hits a Lionsault. Jericho sets the ladder up on top of Shawn, wanting to make him watch as Jericho climbs it to victory. Shawn however, pushes the ladder off his chest and Jericho falls off to the outside far below, landing on his feet! Jericho crumbles screaming in pain and clutching his knee. Shawn very slowly sets the ladder back up. Jericho crawls back in the ring and starts to climb the other side. They fight on the ladder and Chris gets his leg stuck between two rungs. But Lance Cade runs in and tries to yank Shawn off the ladder. But Shawn crossbodies him. Shawn ducks under a clothesline and superkicks Cade out cold. But Cade's interference gave Jericho just the time he needed to free his leg and make the rest of the climb. This leads us to our dramatic conclusion. This ending is spectacular! The belt comes unhooked but they start tug-o-warring for it as its still hooked through the loop. Jericho is knocked back and hangs on to the title for dear life. Shawn pulls him in by the strap of the belt. Chris leans into it and headbutts Shawn off the ladder. Chris takes the championship and falls off the ladder, exhausted from the absolute war he was just in. This was an amazing match! This is one of those matches you just gotta stand up and clap for. Especially for that finish. My God.

This event got off to a rough start with half the card being uneventful short matches. But at least they were short. And Beth vs Candice is actually decent for what it is. 2 garbage, pointless promos including the one JBL cuts after his match. But after that point, we only go up from there. Undertaker and Big Show with a surprisingly good match. Triple H and Jeff Hardy with a banger and Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels in a 5 star classic. Give No Mercy ‘08 its flowers.

I've blacked out so much of the WWE version of ECW that I don't remember Matt Hardy being champion.

So I've been thinking, even though I still have a while before I'll be finished with this thread, about what I'm gonna do once I am. I think I would like to keep doing these reviews into other companies (or NXT). I would do something similar where I watch them according to their rating on Cagematch.

So, if you would like to have a say in what I review next, I've created a poll which you can find if you click right here.
