Match 1: The Bushwhackers def. The Fabulous Rougeaus (13:34)

Everytime I see the Bushwhackers, I die a little inside, because I know I’m about to watch a horrible match. I’ll give this match some credit though, it’s probably the best Bushwhackers match I’ve ever seen. The match starts with the usual way tag team matches during this period began, with the faces getting their spots out of the way early and completely making the heels look like fools. The Rougeaus eventually take control and isolate Luke from Butch. The crowd was hot for this match by the way, Orlando loved the Bushwhackers I guess. Luke makes the tag to Butch eventually and they take the win after Luke headbutts Jacques out of the ring and Butch rolls Raymond up from behind.

Match 2: Brutus Beefcake vs. The Genius ended in a double DQ (11:04)

If there’s Hogan’s era wrestler I disliked ringwise more than the Bushwhackers, it’s Brutus Beefcake. This dude… STUNK! As evidenced by how sucky this match was. I’ll give you the rundown, Brutus makes The Genius look foolish, until the Genius starts wearing Beefcake down. The referee gets bumped and knocked out outside the ring. Beefcake puts The Genius to sleep with the Sleeper Hold and goes outside to grab some scissors to cut his hair. Mr. Perfect runs down to make the save and they put the boots to Beefcake together. Some referees run down to try to get Perfect and The Genius to leave and Finkel announces the referee is DQ’ing both men… Why? The Genius I get. Why is he DQ’ing Beefcake? Shrug.

Match 3: Submission Match - Ronnie Garvin def. Greg Valentine (16:51)

I came into this match expecting it to be good as I’ve seen positive ratings for it. But I was not into this. I understand that it takes a lot of patience to get into a match from this time period, but they specifically announce before the match begins that it is a SUBMISSION MATCH and that the only way to win was to make your opponent SUBMIT! But I guess Ronnie and Greg didn’t hear him because they go for covers throughout the early points of the match. And not just one time, but multiple times! Right away, I’m turned off from this match. Both men have no idea how to win the match. Whatever. Still the best match so far, these guys chopped the shit out of each other. Ronnie put on a brace on his leg that protected him for the Figure 4… I guess… Don’t know how, because it wasn’t even on the leg that the Figure 4 would apparently hurt. Jimmy Hart later reaches into the ring and takes the brace off while Ronnie is down, allowing Valentine to apply the Figure 4 properly. Ronnie spends the rest of the match selling his leg and he sells it well. Jimmy Hart gets brought into the ring by Ronnie and Ronnie picks up the brace Jimmy grabbed off him earlier and looks like he’s gonna hit Jimmy with it, but he turns and hits Valentine who was about to sneak up on him. Ronnie then puts Greg in the Sharpshooter to win this SUBMISSION match that both men tried to win by pinfall multiple times earlier. (That shit really bothered me, you have no idea)

This next part blows so many goats man… Hey look it’s Brother Love, who gives me a migraine every time I hear him talk. He invites Sherri and Sapphire out. And then him and Sherri just fat shame Sapphire… for like 10 minutes! This segment feels like it takes forever. Sapphire has enough and slaps Sherri, prompting Macho Man to run out and threaten Sapphire, but Dusty Rhodes makes the save.

Match 4: Jim Duggan def. Big Boss Man via DQ (10:22)

Well… it’s a Jim Duggan match… That’s something. Not gonna lie, this match had a hot start. It started out being a nice brawl between them and I thought there was a chance this match might actually be good… Foolish me. This match slows down and slows down fast. Boss Man wears down Duggan for a lot of this match and it’s a snoozefest. Somehow it feels longer than the Bushwhackers match felt. Duggan later makes the comeback after Boss Man misses a splash from the top rope. Silly Boss Man, you’re not a top rope guy. Slick slides Boss Man’s nightstick in the ring and tries to distract the ref. But he doesn’t do a good job, because the referee turns to see Boss Man hit Duggan with it. After Duggan is announced as the winner, he gets back in and clobbers Boss Man in the back with the 2x4.

Main Event: Royal Rumble Match - Hulk Hogan won by last eliminating Mr. Perfect (58:40)

For the conversation of what the most star studded Rumble Match in history is, you could make an argument for this one. There were some major stars in this match. I like how they mentioned that Ted DiBiase was number 30 the previous year, but number one this year. But DiBiase lasts a long time and sets the record for longest time in a Rumble Match up to this point. DiBiase makes 2 quick eliminations in Koko B. Ware and Marty Jannetty, but Jake Roberts comes in at number 4 and beats down DiBiase. Until Randy Savage comes in at 5, followed by Piper at number 6. We had some big names coming out very early in this one. Roberts is eliminated after number 9 comes in by Macho Man. But Macho isn’t in the ring still for long because Dusty Rhodes comes in at number 10 and throws him over. Andre the Giant is number 11. For real, all the stars and also The Warlord and Bad News Brown are here. Speaking of Bad News, he gets eliminated by Piper and Bad News pulls Piper out by his hair over the top… But it’s okay, Piper’s still in because Bad News is out… Oh wait, that was only a thing for one year, my bad. This middle portion is pretty tame, nothing major. Demolition eliminate Andre with a double clothesline. Earthquake comes in and immediately eliminates Dusty. Some people have to work together to get Earthquake out. Ultimate Warrior comes in to a huge ovation at number 21 and cleans house. And he eliminates DiBiase after 3 more entrants come in. Hulk Hogan is number 25 and him and Warrior clean house together until it’s just down to the two of them in the ring and the crowd explodes for this showdown. They give us a preview of what they’re going to do at WrestleMania and both men knock each other down with a double clothesline. After Barbarian and Rick Rude come in, they work together to try to eliminate Warrior, they get him over, but Hogan helps by clotheslining the heels and knocking Warrior to the floor. Mr. Perfect is number 30 and after Hercules is eliminated, it’s down to Hogan, Perfect and Rude. How can Hogan overcome these odds? Very easily is the answer. Rick knocks Perfect to the apron after Hogan dodges a punch. Rude is eliminated after he flies over the ropes as Perfect is holding them down trying to get back in. Yeah, this match was great for the most part but it wouldn’t be a Hogan match if it didn’t piss me off in some way. Hogan no sells Perfect’s Perfect Plex and then eliminates him quickly after. Hogan wins LOL. WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, who didn’t need this win, goes over brother. Like I said before, this was a pretty good rumble match and well worked for the most part, but it’s really soured by this ending.

God these Hogan era PPVs kill me every time. I can’t believe this was actually considered exciting back then. Then again, from what I’ve heard, this was a weird time to be alive anyway, but god damn do they age poorly. Most of the show was average or piss poor but at least the Rumble Match was good.

It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a PPV from ‘95. But it’s only 1 of 3 more shows from that year I need to watch. In Your House: Triple Header will be next.

Just looking at the match listing for the undercard makes me not want to watch it, but seeing that Bushwackers vs Rougeaus and Beefcake vs Genius both went over 10 minutes, ugh. The Rumble match itself must have been star studded because there are virtually no stars on the undercard.

Just looking at the match listing for the undercard makes me not want to watch it, but seeing that Bushwackers vs Rougeaus and Beefcake vs Genius both went over 10 minutes, ugh. The Rumble match itself must have been star studded because there are virtually no stars on the undercard.
The Rumble Match is worth a watch, but just skip everything else

In Your House 3: Triple Header

Match 1: Savio Vega def. Waylon Mercy (7:06)

Waylon Mercy’s one and only PPV match. And I can kinda see why. He was very sluggish in this match. But Savio is able to get an okay match out of him. Waylon doesn’t look quite as dominant as I thought he would, the match is pretty even throughout the whole thing. Halfway through this match, they go to Michael Hayes backstage who says that Owen Hart (one of the men in the main event) is not there. So that’s what the whole show will be about. Savio wins the match with a spinning wheel kick, and becomes the first man to defeat Waylon Mercy. Waylon’s time in WWF may have been short, but it went on to inspire one Windham Rotunda into creating one of the best characters in wrestling history.

Match 2: Sid def. Henry Godwinn (7:23)

The story going into this match is that Henry’s back is fucked up, which is something I can very much relate to. Sid Powerbombed Henry 3 times onto the floor on an episode of Superstars so he comes in with a weakened back. Imagine being Sid here though. He went from challenging for the WWF Title to feuding with Henry Godwinn. Henry hurts himself after hitting a suplex on Sid, and Sid spends the match working on Henry’s back until it’s time for the comeback. Henry nearly has Sid beat, but Ted DiBiase pulls Henry off from the outside. Henry is once again halted by DiBiase after he trips him from the outside and Sid hits a Powerbomb on Henry to win the match. But after the match, Sid and DiBiase argue over which one of them gets to throw Henry’s own puke caserole on him, but Bam Bam makes the save, until he’s attacked from behind by Kama. DiBiase is about to slop Bam Bam, but Henry takes the bucket and drops it on DiBiase’s head. So that’s a thing.

My Rating: *3/4

Before the next match begins, Gorilla Monsoon gives Jim Cornette a choice since Owen Hart isn’t there. Yokozuna can either single handedly defend the Tag Team Titles against Diesel and Shawn Michaels or he can find a replacement before then. So now Cornette has been sent on a quest.

Match 3: British Bulldog def. Bam Bam Bigelow (12:00)

An okay match, but could’ve been better. I think this is the first match where Bulldog comes out with the short haircut after his heel turn. Bulldog shows off his strength in this match by throwing Bam Bam over this shoulder. And Bam Bam gets to show off his athleticism. A few minutes into the match, Bulldog targets Bam Bam’s leg, weakening it. Bam Bam later hits an enziguri, but with a hurt leg can’t follow up on it. Bulldog wears Bam Bam down, and Bam Bam begins making the comeback. He tries to finish things with a Moonsault, but Bulldog moves out of the way and he finishes it with a Running Powerslam.

Match 4: Dean Douglas def. Razor Ramon (14:53)

This match went way too long man. This was not fun. It’s not terrible, just boring. Razor is in control for most of the early stages of the match, he outwrestles and out brawls The Franchise, I mean the school teacher. Dean Douglas gains the upper hand later and begins working over Razor’s back and kidneys and wears him down for several minutes. But of course, Razor begins making a comeback, can you believe it? But he gets thrown into the referee by Dean, but that doesn’t stop Razor as he gets Dean up for a Razor’s Edge and hits it and makes the cover. But Bob Backlund at ringside, holds the referee in place. 1-2-3 Kid runs out and counts the pin for Razor, as if that was gonna do anything? But when Razor realizes it was the Kid who counted the pin, he shoves him out of the ring, allowing Dean to roll Razor up from behind to win the match. Razor and The Kid argue after the match and look like they’re about to fight, planting the seeds for Kid’s eventual heel turn.

Match 5: Bret Hart def. Jean Pierre Lafitte (16:37)

I have no idea how Pierre didn’t get more of a push after this match. Because this was awesome. It helps that he was in there with Bret Hart. But Vince himself on commentary says that he’s “one of the most underrated superstars in the WWF.” And because his gimmick is that he’s a pirate, he’s wearing an eyepatch, which I imagine made wrestling a bit more challenging. Bret gets this match off to a wild start with a suicide dive to the outside where he hits Pierre, but flies over his head. It’s a brawl from the start, but slows down as Pierre begins wearing down Bret, but amazingly enough, it doesn’t feel boring as Bret is exceptionally good at fighting from under and sells the hell out of Pierre’s offense. There’s a bit where Bret tries to backdrop Pierre over the ropes, but Pierre lands on his feet and drags Bret out before throwing him into the steps. The tide turns completely in Bret’s favor after Pierre goes for a senton off the top rope, but misses. And unfortunately for him, it wouldn’t be the first senton he misses during this match as he dives to the outside and lands on the floor with a splat. Jean gets a few more good shots in to make us think he might actually have a chance. But Bret being as crafty as he is, after a double clothesline, begins to put Jean in the Sharpshooter from the ground and stands back up, fully applying the hold and making Pierre tap out. What a match this was!

Before the main event begins, Cornette reveals that Davey Boy will be Owen Hart’s replacement and now our main event can begin.

Main Event: Triple Header Match for the WWF, Intercontinental & Tag Team Championships - Diesel (WWF Champions) & Shawn Michaels (IC Champion) def. Yokozuna & British Bulldog (Tag Team Champions) (15:42)

I thought this match was pretty good if I’m being honest. It’s not fantastic but it’s a solid main event. Shawn Michaels begins the match for this team and has some fun with Yoko and Bulldog. When Diesel comes in, he knocks Yokozuna out of the ring, but Bulldog comes in without even making the tag as the referee is occupied with Shawn in their corner. Bulldog shows off his strength by suplexing Diesel, and even though he dropped him the first attempt, it doesn’t make it any less impressive when he gets it the second time. Diesel makes the tag to Shawn, but Bulldog presses him over his head and drops Shawn crotch first on the top rope. From this point, Bulldog and Yoko isolate Shawn from his corner and wears him down. But Shawn is able to make the tag to Diesel after Yokozuna misses the Banzai Drop and lands on his huge ass. Shawn tags in Diesel and Yoko tags in Bulldog. They go at it for a while. There’s a spot where Diesel and Shawn irish whip Bulldog into Yokozuna in the corner. Bulldog falls face first on the mat while Yoko falls forward right on top of him. Diesel knocks Bulldog down but gets a Samoan Drop from Yoko. But Shawn takes Yoko out of the picture with a Sweet Chin Music. Bulldog hits a powerslam on Diesel and covers him, but Shawn makes the save with an elbow drop to Bulldog. Diesel and Shawn have the match well in hand, but this confusing ending kind of sours the match a bit. Owen Hart finally shows up, gets on the top rope, but gets kicked in the gut by Diesel and eats a Jackknife and then Diesel covers Owen to win the match? What? But…? I thought…? How can you win by beating someone who’s not in the match? That doesn’t make any sense! Solid match honestly but god what a confusing mess of an ending! And I’m pretty sure this was booked so they’d have an excuse to take the belts off Diesel and Shawn, which makes this whole match pointless anyway. This whole main event was just booked to sell tickets, which isn’t bad, but at least commit to your freaking storyline. Jesus.

Most of the card was pretty average house show matches. But the last two matches at least delivered in their own way. Bret vs Jean put on a certified banger while the main event defied expectations with its quality, despite its dumb ending. So pretty in the middle show I’d say.

We’re taking a break from 90s PPVs. Hooray. Bad news, it’s another 2006 PPV. Dammit! This time it’ll be Judgment Day.

I forgot to mention, halfway through the show, they promoted the next In Your House PPV, The Great White North. Which was so shitty, it was one of the first PPVs I had to watch when I started this and also advertised a match between Undertaker and Mabel and hilariously, Undertaker wasn't even on that show.

Yeah, the main event and then taking the belts off of Shawn & Diesel the next night felt like Dusty Rhodes winning the NWA World title from Ric Flair and then being stripped shortly after. Got the fans cheering, got them to tune into Raw to see the new champs, and then nothing.

One of the many WWE DVDs in my collection is Bret Hart: The Dungeon Collection which features this match with Pierre. When I first saw it listed on the DVD I was like "really, that guy?" but then seeing the match, it was so good it really caught me by surprise.

It was either Mabel or Yoko who smashed Taker's face with a leg drop, hence the face mask he wore for a while.

Match 1: WWE Tag Team Championship Match - Paul London & Brian Kendrick def. MNM (c) (13:44)

This is where London and Kendrick’s long title reign began. Not great, but a very good way to start the show. London and Kendrick start off fast paced, but MNM start wearing down their challengers and thats pretty much the only low point of the match. MNM hit the Snapshot (their finisher) on Kendrick, but London saves the match. In more ways than one because when London gets that hot tag, the match picks up real quick. At some point, he hits a dropsault, and when I say that, he dropkicks Nitro off the apron and moonsaults Mercury in the same move. MNM try double teaming London but Kendrick saves him and attempts to leap out onto Nitro, but Melina pushes Niro out of the way and Kendrick splats on the floor. Nitro holds London by the arms on the apron, doing the thing that has never ever worked in the history of wrestling, Mercury runs at London, who moves out of the way and knocks Nitro off the apron. London standing sunset flips Mercury into a jackknife pin to win the Tag Team Titles for his team. Then after the match… MNM IMPLODES! Melina blames Mercury and Mercury grabs Melina by the wrist prompting Nitro to attack Mercury. And MNM is no more… until December.

My Rating: ***1/2

Match 2: Chris Benoit def. Finlay (21:11)

Holy shit, they gave this match a lot of time! That leads to my only complaint is that the middle portion is nothing special as Finlay lays on Benoit. But other than that, I really liked this match. They didn’t do anything too flashy, it felt like they really were trying to beat the shit out of each other. Early in the match, Finlay gives Benoit a couple slaps, and Benoit fires back with a slap that would make even Gunther cringe. Finlay sits on Benoit for a lot of the match, but the offense Benoit gets in is devasting enough that when he makes the comeback, it’s believable for Finlay to lose. Benoit baseball slides a chair into Finlay’s torso and later hits a german suplex on the outside. Then he hits the 3 Amigos before a Diving Headbutt which Finlay kicks out of. Finlay gets a few more shots in but Benoit drives Finlay down into a Crossface to make the irish brawler tap out.

My Rating: ****

Match 3: Jillian Hall def. Melina (4:17)

Okay, this is the point where the show starts to get boring. And this match was not good. But it was thankfully short. Jillian beats Melina up at first and then Melina beats her up. Typical TV match really. Jillian wins with a sunset flip and Melina’s hand grabs the bottom rope, but the referee doesn’t see it. Jillian wins. Good for her.

Match 4: Cruiserweight Championship Match - Gregory Helms (c) def. Super Crazy (9:56)

Eh. This is a match I suppose. Again, a typical TV match here. Super Crazy gets to fly, but not for very long, it soon devolves into Helms wearing down Crazy. It’s not exciting. Not a bad match, but it’s boring. Crazy gets a short comeback in towards the end, but it’s short lived. Crazy misses a moonsault and Helms reverses a hurricanrana into a powerbomb and pins Crazy in a jackknife pin, putting his feet on the ropes.

Match 5: Mark Henry def. Kurt Angle via countout (9:11)

Kurt goes into this match with injured ribs, thanks to Henry. Henry by the way, is so fucking wet when he comes out. They must have sprayed this man down with a hose or something before he went out there, Jesus. Henry prematurely takes the announce table apart. This match is at least better than their Royal Rumble match, but it’s still not good. Kurt attacks Henry before the bell rings and attacks his knee. Henry wears down Kurt and attacks his ribs, but Kurt fights back, drops the straps and hits an OLYMPIC SLAM before applying the Ankle Lock. Henry rolls through and Kurt goes flying through the ropes. Henry looks to splash Kurt through the table he took apart, but Kurt gets off before Henry can leap off. Henry splashes Kurt against the ring post and gets back in the ring… And Kurt gets counted out… what a boring ass finish. But Henry goes to put Angle through the table again, but Angle rakes his eyes, grabs a chair and beats the shit out of Henry with it. He hits the OLYMPIC SLAM on Henry over the table which doesn’t break. So Kurt grabs another chair and slams it into Henry’s head, and the big man falls through the table forward. So even though the heel wins, the babyface makes them look like a bitch after the match. That’s not the last time that happens on this show.

Match 6: King of the Ring Tournament Final Match - Booker T def. Bobby Lashley (9:15)

Another match that feels like it should just be on TV, but it’s at least slightly better than the previous 2 matches. Lashley obviously has the edge in strength and he uses that to his advantage in this match. His inexperience shows though and Booker, the veteran has to carry him to a serviceable match. And actually manages to pull it off. I will say though, they really wanted Lashley to lose in the most “he’s really strong” way possible. Booker hits him with a Book End, and Lashley kicks out. He hits him with a Scissors Kick and Lashley kicks out. Like damn, just kick out of all of Booker’s finishes. Bobby has the match won after a Spear, and has Booker down and out, but Sharmell distracts the referee and Finlay runs down to hit him in the back of the head with the shillelagh and Booker finishes him with the Scissors Kick and KING BOOKAH is born. Sharmell puts the crown and the robe on Booker on the stage, but again, the heel looks weak afterward because Lashley spears him into the chair and then leaves. And Booker looks like he’s about to cry. Like fuck dude.

Match 7: The Great Khali def. The Undertaker (8:32)

If you ask WWE, they’d have you believe this was a total squash match. And that just wasn’t the case. Sure, Khali beats the shit out of Taker, but he doesn’t look nearly as dominant as WWE wanted him to look as Undertaker makes a convincing comeback towards the end. Surprisingly enough, this match isn’t that bad. Undertaker has to carry Khali to a serviceable match which seems to be a running theme with the previous 2 matches too. Khali hits Undertaker with a chop to the head and Undertaker kicks out. And Taker begins making the epic comeback. But the comeback is over in a few minutes. Khali beats Taker with a chop and a kick to the head and places one foot on his chest to win his PPV debut.

Main Event: World Heavyweight Championship Match - Rey Mysterio (c) def. JBL (15:56)

JBL had a match with Eddie Guerrero 2 years earlier at Judgment Day and it was bloody as fuck. JBL had a match with John Cena the year before at Judgment Day and it was bloody as fuck. That’s a bad omen for Rey. Now while Rey doesn’t bleed nearly as bad as either Eddie or Cena (as far as we know because of the mask). This is a very fun matchup. Better than the match they had at No Mercy in ‘05. Rey used his speed and agility to frustrate JBL early. He points out to the crowd to distract the referee and hits a baseball slide to JBL’s nuts. But JBL starts kicking the shit out of Rey. Rey’s wife also happens to be at ringside too and JBL constantly harrasses her at ringside, showing her the blood on his knuckles. And to add further insult to injury, JBL hits the 3 amigos and then drops Rey, torso first on the top rope and kicks him down to the floor. Rey eventually makes the comeback though and reverses a Powerbomb into a hurricanrana into the second rope. He hits the 619 and attempts the West Coast Pop, but JBL pulls the referee in front of Rey. JBL then hits the Powerbomb and calls another referee down. But when Rey kicks out, JBL knocks out the new referee. Then goes out to grab a chair while there’s still no referee. But Rey kicks the chair back into his face and JBL stumbles into the second rope. Rey hits the 619 and then a Frog Splash to retain. A very good way to end the show. They told a nice david vs goliath story in this match.

The middle portion of this show is just boring. But thankfully, it has 3 matches that saves it. And thankfully they were the matches that took up most of the show. It’s still too boring to give it any higher of a rating to be honest but… at the very least, I didn’t cringe at anything on this show, which is more than what I can say for most shows I’ve had to watch so far.

And next up will be the last New Year’s Revolution in 2007.

Match 1: Intercontinental Championship Steel Cage Match - Jeff Hardy (c) def. Johnny Nitro (14:40)

Starting the show with a nice opener. I remember these two having a lot of matches at around this time and they were always good. They do a lot of kicking each other into the cage. Like there’s a lot of that, there were some really cool spots that stood out here. Both guys standing on the top rope and Jeff dropkicks Nitro into the cage. Nitro hitting a sunset flip from the top of the cage. Nitro’s legs get caught in the top of the cage and Jeff pulls him down, slamming him into the cage and leaving Nitro hanging from the top. Jeff Hardy tries to climb over the top but Melina runs over and slaps Jeff’s hands with her belt. And this had a really creative finish. Nitro tries climbing over the top of the cage and Jeff tries to crawl through the door, but Melina gets in the referee’s way as he tries to open it. The referee moves Melina away from the door and Jeff kicks the door out, and Nitro just so happens to be right over it so he gets crotched on the door and Jeff crawls out to retain his title.

Match 2: World Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Tag Team Turmoil Match - Cryme Tyme won by last eliminating Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch (19:11)

Lillian announces this match as a “special bonus match”. But if it’s a bonus match, then shouldn’t it be good? This sadly was the worst match on the card and ended being one of the longest. Also, this goes to show the state of Raw’s tag division at the time. Lawler asks JR “how many teams are in this thing?” And JR responds with “I don’t know. I didn’t even know we had this many.” Yep. I’m quoting them word for word. And he says that in the first match too. The match starts with The Highlanders and The World’s Greatest Tag Team. Don’t remember how, but Shelton and Haas advance to face… of all people, Jim Duggan and Super Crazy. Sure, might as well. Haas takes Crazy out after a German Suplex. Cade and Murdoch are next and sprint down, wanting to take advantage of the weakened team. They isolate Shelton for a bit until he makes the lukewarm tag to Haas. Haas gets Murdoch in the Haas of Pain, but Cade comes off the top with an elbow to eliminate them. The last team is Cryme Tyme and the rednecks isolate the weaker man on the team JTG, who eventually gets the hot tag to Shad. Cryme Tyme get the win after they hit… whatever their finish was and pin Cade.

Match 3: Kenny Dykstra def. Ric Flair (10:01)

Flair lights Kenny up with chops in the first minute or so, but Kenny pulls Flair to the outside and turns it around with a suplex on the outside and from there, Kenny works over Ric’s back. But with a poke in the eye and a chop block, Flair takes the advantage and puts Kenny in the Figure 4. Kenny holds on a for a bit and crawls over to the ropes, forcing the break. Flair gets more aggressive and beats on Kenny in the corner and when the referee tries to separate them, Flair shoves him away, and Kenny low blows Ric and rolls him up in a small package for the win.

Match 4: Women’s Championship Match - Mickie James (c) def. Victoria (6:49)

Before the match, Victoria finds Melina backstage and tells her that if she helps her win the Women’s Title, then she’d give Melina the first shot… Which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense because Victoria was on a winning streak. She beat Mickie 3 weeks earlier in a non-title match. So why would she feel like she needed help perplexes me. Victoria has the edge in power and uses it to power around Mickie around the ring. Mickie ends up kicking Victoria to the outside and out comes Melina to help her get back up. Mickie hits Melina and tosses Victoria back in, attempting a jumping DDT, but Melina grabs Mickie by her ankle. Victoria escapes and gets Mickie in the Widow’s Peak position, but Candice Michelle and Maria (two of the women Victoria had beaten recently) come down and take Melina out. Mickie reverses the Widow’s Peak into a sunset flip. Victoria kicks out and picks Mickie up on her shoulder. But Mickie reverses it into a tilt-a-whirl DDT to win the match.

Match 5: World Tag Team Championship Match - Rated RKO (c) vs. D-Generation X ended in a no contest (20:00)

I’m assuming the time is a general roundup because there’s no bell to indicate the end up the match. The match starts being a brawl. DX meet Edge and Orton halfway up the ramp and the fight starts immediately. DX opens Orton up above his left eye early in the match, but it’s nothing too bad. Edge chop blocks Triple H and they double team him for a bit until HHH manages to tag in Shawn. Shawn dives onto them on the outside. Shawn tosses Edge back inside, but Orton grabs his ankle to stop him from getting back in and Edge takes advantage with a Spear and Shawn drops to the floor. Edge occupies the referee while Orton grabs one of the titles and smacks it into Shawn’s face. Shawn is busted open and Rated RKO are on him like a couple of wolves for a while. Shawn gets an opening when Orton goes for an RKO, but Shawn shoves him off and crawls over to Triple H to tag him. Triple H turns it around and takes both members of Rated RKO out. He throws Edge out and hits a spinebuster on Orton… and injures his other quad. The one that he didn’t hurt 6 years before, he hurts the other one here. Props to him though for finishing the match… Well, the match has no finish but you know what I mean. Orton tries hitting an RKO on him and Triple H just falls over. Then after recovering from his fall, he hits a Pedigree on Edge and covers him. Edge kicks out. Shawn comes back in and dives on Orton on the outside before he runs back inside and knocks the referee out. Then he grabs 2 steel chairs and wails Edge and Orton with it. Edge bleeds but Orton FUCKING BLEEDS! Orton’s face is totally covered in red and it runs down his body. Dude looks like he just had a match with JBL at Judgment Day. Triple H hits Edge with a Pedigree on one of the announce tables and Shawn hits an elbow drop on Orton through another. Nice tag match here. Only thing I didn’t like was Shawn tossing the tag titles into the ring like they don’t matter.

Match 6: Chris Masters def. Carlito (5:58)

Ah, the cool down match. This match is okay but nothing special. Masters has the advantage in power obviously and Carlito is more athletic. He didn’t really get to show that off a lot as a heel but when he was a babyface, however brief it was, he was doing things like a double springboard moonsault like he does here. Masters tries to put Carlito in the Masterlock during the match but he can lock it on. Carlito tries to reverse it into a pin from that position but Masters sits on Carlito and pins him instead. Masters then attacks Carlito after the match and puts him in the Masterlock. Very eh match.

Main Event: WWE Championship Match - John Cena (c) def. Umaga (17:17)

Umaga was so damn cool. Normally I’m not a fan of the brute savage type of gimmick, but Umaga filled the role very well. And he beats the hell out of Cena in this match. He was still undefeated at this point unfortunately, so his streak was sacrificed in this match. This match was solid but I wasn’t too high on it. It does get stale after a while because Umaga just beats on Cena for so long. Cena takes a sick bump outside the ring. Umaga with one hand on the apron, throws Cena over the top rope and Cena splats on the floor. Umaga damages Cena’s back and torso throughout this match. Cena collapses whenever he tries to pick Umaga up. Umaga just completely overpowers and dominates this match. But Cena wins by sheer luck. Umaga tries to hit the running… ass in your face? (What was it called? Help me please) Cena gets his feet up, kicking Umaga in the face and then rolls Umaga up from behind and pins him? A pretty anticlimactic finish for a main event, don’t you think? And unlike when Cena beat Carlito at the previous New Year’s Revolution, there’s no cash-in after the match so it just feels odd… I still don’t know how I feel about them ending Umaga’s undefeated streak here. But it’s whatever.

Very meh PPV. It doesn’t have any overly bad stuff on it other than the Tag Team Turmoil which just felt so long. It had a couple underrated gems on it. But there’s not really anything worth going out of your way to watch.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve had to watch a show from 1999. It’ll be St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

And I understand that probably nobody in WWE sees these posts but before I sign off… WE WANT CODY!!!

2007 was not a great time for Flair. In 2006 he checked a few items off his wrestling bucket list competing in a Ladder Match and TLC Match, had that program with Mick Foley, then winning Tag Gold with Roddy Piper. Then, here he is jobbing to Kenny Dykstra. Somehow this is worse than Hogan jobbing to Kidman in WCW. Then he's on the WrestleMania kickoff show teaming with Carlito against Chavo Guerrero and Gregory Helms. He really didn't do a whole lot after that until the retirement angle came up.

In Your House 27: St. Valentine’s Day Massacre

Match 1: Goldust def. Bluedust (3:07)

Not starting the show off good or bad. Just fucking weird. It doesn’t get any weirder than a flashback to Blue Meanie posing naked with his body entirely painted blue. Fun fact, I watched this show once a very long time ago back when I was in the single digit ages. I don’t remember exactly how old I was. But I definitely shouldn’t have been watching this. This match sucks but at least its short. Goldust pretty much beats up Meanie the whole match. He attempts Shattered Dreams, but Meanie kicks him in the face. Meanie misses a moonsault and Goldust hits a Curtain Call to win the match. And he still gets to kick Meanie in the dick.

Match 2: Vacant Hardcore Championship Match - Bob Holly def. Al Snow (10:02)

Not 20 seconds into the match and Al Snow hits Holly in the head with a chair. Okay, busting out the heavy shit already. Legit only 5 seconds of this match is in the ring. They just brawl up the entrance way, to the back and then outside all the way to the Mississippi River outside the arena. This was also in February of course and Bob Holly was only wearing a pair of trunks and boots. He must have been freezing. While I can appreciate the creativity of leaving the arena and only fighting out there, they don’t do a whole lot other than find stuff on the ground and beat each other with it. They both end up in the river and come out all wet in the fucking February weather. The match at least has a creative finish with Holly rolling Snow up in some fencing like a burrito and pinning him that way to win his first singles title.

Match 3: Big Boss Man def. Mideon (6:20)

Don’t ya just love a heatless match between 2 heels. Legitimately, not a single person in the crowd gave a shit about this. And they let them know too by chanting boring. I truthfully don’t remember a damn thing about this match aside from the finish. Just punching, kicking, probably a rest hold or two. This match was buttcheeks man. And not Gigi Dolin buttcheeks, but Hank Hill buttcheeks. Mideon ducks a clothesline and gets caught in the Boss Man slam. Boss Man wins. Yay. Then the rest of the Ministry jump Boss Man after the match and carry him backstage.

Match 4: WWF Tag Team Championship Match - Owen Hart & Jeff Jarrett (c) def. Mark Henry & D’Lo Brown (9:34)

This match was boring too. Before the match, they have D’Lo and Henry backstage with Ivory and D’Lo says that if Debra gets involved in the match, then Ivory is going to “rip off every piece of clothing you have.” Henry acts as the muscle for his team obviously so Owen and Jarrett isolate D’Lo from his corner. And they lay on him for a boring amount of time. Eventually, D’Lo tags in Henry who turns it around. But D’Lo comes back in to help and the ref allows it for some reason. Then D’Lo goes to the top to hit a maneuver. Debra distracts him so Ivory comes over and D’Lo for some reason decides this argument is more important than Owen and Jarrett. With the referee distracted too, Owen comes in with the guitar and busts it on Henry’s left knee, causing the pieces to spread around the ring. Jarrett puts Henry in the Figure 4 and the referee tries hard not to make it look like he doesn’t notice the obvious guitar pieces around the ring and Henry taps, giving the champs the win. Ivory attempts to but doesn’t succeed, to strip Debra down after the match. Let’s move on.

Match 5: Intercontinental Championship Match with Billy Gunn as Special Referee - Val Venis def. Ken Shamrock (c) (15:52)

I hate this soap opera shit. So Val Venis was banging Ken’s sister and Ken doesn’t like that. Fun fact by the way, Ken’s “sister” was his real life girlfriend at the time. I bet that made things awkward in the bedroom. This match was buttcheeks as well. God this was such a boring watch. And to make it worse, it was nearly 16 minutes long. It’s also very weirdly worked. I think Val is the babyface but you had him working like a heel while Ken was a heel who had to fight from under for some reason. And Billy Gunn counts very slow whenever both men go for covers. The end of this match comes after Ken puts the Ankle Lock on Val. And Ryan (Ken’s girlfriend and/or sister) helps Val to the ropes. Ken goes outside to confront her and Ryan slaps him. Billy goes outside and gets between them, prompting Ken to shove him. So Billy throws him inside and Val rolls Ken in a small package and Billy fast counts to give Val the title.

Match 6: Kane & Chyna def. Triple H & X-Pac (14:45)

Finally, a decent match on this fucking show. It’s nothing special but it’s at least they do enough to fill the time. Kane acts as the power of his team and Chyna comes in and gets a few shots on HHH and X-Pac. Pretty much, all she does is elbows. Kane does most of the work in this match for his team. Shane McMahon comes down during and joins commentary. So X-Pac jumps him at some point. When Chyna gets beaten up by HHH, the crowd goes wild. As HHH and Kane battle outside, X-Pac hits the Bronco Buster and the crowd goes nuts again. But Shane jumps X-Pac, prompting Pac to chase him to the back. Triple H reverses an irish whip and whips Kane into the steps. He goes back in and goes for a Pedigree on Chyna, but Kane comes in and saves her, hitting a Chokeslam and laying Chyna across him. The Corporation win. Booo.

Match 7: WWF Championship Last Man Standing Match - Mankind (c) vs. The Rock ended in a draw (21:54)

This match was awesome. Such a great match but just wish it had a better finish. This was the first Last Man Standing Match in the company’s history and this sets the tone for every one to come after it. Also, if you don’t count Capital Carnage, this is the fourth PPV in a row where Rock and Mankind are fighting each other. They brawl up the entrance way, beating the hell out of each other. And once again, Mick Foley puts his body through fucking hell for our entertainment. To make it even better, You have The Rock getting on the mic to trash talk Foley every once in a while. He puts a headset on at the commentary table and tells Mick to bring his candy ass over there. So Mick does and practically leaps over the table onto Rock and lays into him. Mick takes two particularly disgusting spots where he tries to piledrive Rock on the same table, but Rock back drops Foley behind him… off the table. Foley’s head hits the table, his leg hits the timekeeper’s table and his back splats on the floor. Fuck that. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, as Mick is laying on the outside, Rock drops the steel steps on him from inside the ring! Jesus christ! As the match goes on, Rock later hits a Corporate Elbow on Mankind and then grabs a mic, he starts singing a song, not sure what song he was parodying here but he ends it with “Down at the end of Jabroni drive at the SmackDown hotel.” He leans down to Mick and goes to talk some more trash, but Mick stuffs Mr. Socko down his throat and Rock’s muffled screams can be heard cause he’s still holding the mic. This match rules so much. Rock kicks Mick in the dick, and hits the Rock Bottom. Both men are down and exhausted, then get up, both grabbing a chair and hit each other at the same exact time… And the referee counts them both out… Laaaaaaame. Legitimately, whats the point in doing this finish? The Rock won the title back the very next night anyway. Shaking my head.

Main Event: Steel Cage Match with Austin’s WrestleMania Title Shot on the Line - Steve Austin def. Vince McMahon (7:52)

Ah… This brought joy to my soul. Here, Stone Cold did something I’m sure we would all love to do… Beat the piss and shit out of Vince McMahon! I know it was his idea but there’s a particular spot in the match that brought a smile to my face and I’m sure you know which one I’m talking about already. Before the match even officially starts, Austin beats the hell out of Vince for like 10 minutes on the outside. And both of them are at the top of the cage and Vince falls back and off into the spanish announce table. I know it was probably his idea, but there’s no way that didn’t hurt and it brought me such joy to see it. Howard Finkel tries to declare Austin the winner, but Austin takes the mic and says Vince isn’t getting off that easy. Austin drags Vince back to the ring on the stretcher they tried to carry Vince out on. Austin brings Vince into the ring and proceeds to whip his ass for like 7 minutes. And the only reason it goes as long as it does is because whenever Austin would try to leave, Vince would flip him the bird and Austin would come right back in to kick his ass some more. Austin busts Vince open and puts the finishing touches on with a Stunner. He trash talks Vince, but wait, whats happening behind Austin… It’s The Giant from WCW! He tosses Austin into the cage a couple times before Vince motions for him to throw Austin into the cage. So Big Show picks Stone Cold up and throws him into the cage… But the cage swings open, allowing Austin to drop to the floor and his WrestleMania Match is in tact. This was a genius way to end the show honestly. They really tease you and make you think something is gonna happen and Austin is somehow gonna get fucked over again with how long this goes and how much he plays with Vince. And something does happen, but the right man still wins in the end.

The first half of this show had me going, “this show is gonna get a low rating from me” but I’ll give them credit, they brought it back with the second half of the show. I enjoyed the last 3 matches. The Last Man Standing Match was a lot of fun, despite the stupid finish. But honestly speaking, I don’t think I can go any higher with my rating.

Next is another blood themed show weirdly enough. Bad Blood 2003.

First off, welcome back, I hope your friend is doing okay.

I've been known to watch this show on Valentine's Day, though this year I opted for the Best of Hell in a Cell DVD instead. I thought the Hardcore Match was quite entertaining overall with an enjoyable finish. The I-C title match, while not great I think deserves a better rating than what you gave it. And I've said this numerous times before on multiple platforms but one thing about WWF's booking at the time I don't understand is that they had a feud going with Billy Gunn, Ken Shamrock, and Val Venis (and later Goldust also) over the I-C title and Ryan Shamrock, while at the same time Road Dogg, Al Snow, and Bob Holly were feuding over the Hardcore title setting up two big title matches for WrestleMania. But then, they go and have Road Dogg win the I-C title and Billy Gunn win the Hardcore title and put those two in each other's matches at WrestleMania. WHY???!!!! Road Dogg had no involvement with Ryan Shamrock and Gunn had no reason to be feuding with Snow and Holly. It makes no sense.

I loved the two main event matches. The Rock vs Mankind ending was another swerve to set up the rematch the next night on Raw in which Big Show would cost Mankind the match setting up their match at WrestleMania. The Austin vs McMahon match was the best of Vince's career, and I would give it a 4-star rating. To me, Austin's quest to win back the WWF title was the best build up to a WrestleMania match ever with six whole months put into it with Austin getting fired, rehired, put into the World title tournament at Survivor Series, getting screwed by Shane McMahon, getting screwed at the Royal Rumble, then FINALLY winning the opportunity to face the champion at WrestleMania where he wins the belt back.
