Despite a set of great pipes and a certified hit under her belt (It Kills Me); singer Melanie Fiona is finding it hard to recreate her initial success. The 27 year old Canadian songbird recently released “Gone and Never Coming Back,” the lead-off single from her upcoming sophomore album “The MF Life,” to much fanfare, but little else. Though great reviews of the single have been many, the song has stalled on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Song charts, peaking at #38 after 14 weeks of being in release.

Speaking to Billboard about the status of her new single and not wanting to be labeled a one hit wonder, Melanie says: “People are always like, ‘Well, what is she doing to do next?’ and it’s tough when you hear people saying, ‘Well, she’s probably just a one-hit wonder.’ The longer you take to come back, the more you hear that, and you want to stand up with a megaphone and say, ‘I’m not dead! I’m coming back!’ But I feel a lot stronger. I’ve been doing some great writing, and I do feel my fans are loyal and genuine and they’re definitely in it for the music. I feel like as long as I stick to the motto of making good music, I’m sure I’ll have some faithful followers.”

Melanie’s single and video can both be purchased on iTunes. As for “The MF Life,” Melanie admits the single was rushed out before the album was completed, but says the process of narrowing down just the right songs to include on the project, is what has held up the album’s release.

So when will “The MF Life” finally hit record stores shelves? Only “sometime this summer” is the answer Melanie could come up with.

True Jackson V.P., star Keke Palmer is heading back to the big screen. The 17 year old beauty will reportedly star in Nick Cannon’s upcoming film “Rags.” Keke broke the news via her website KekePalmer.com and revealed how the new role came about.

According to Keke, Nick called her parents/manager and told them he had written a script with her specifically in mind to play the lead. After checking it out for themselves, Keke says she went into entrepreneurial mode, adding herself on as the film’s co-producer.

Because of her now heightened role in the project, Keke said she was able to make suggestions about the script, the hiring of cast members, and even the movie’s score, which is being overseen by Rodney Jerkins and Billie Woodruff.

Keke says she took on the role because she hadn’t done anything similar since her 2007 Disney TV film “Jump In.” Since her debut Keke, has been in over 10 films, including “Akeelah and the Bee,” “Madea’s Family Reunion,” and the upcoming Queen Latifah/Dolly Parton project “Joyful Noise.”

Estelle has caught royal fever. Even though the British songbird is in New York City, she repped for her native England by waking up at the crack of dawn to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot, branding them as this generation’s Charles and Diana.

“Her and Will looked really in love. Between the three of them—her, Will, and Harry—you could see they’re friends,” Estelle told Rap-Up.com. “They just looked like it was a young people’s happy wedding. I felt like it was Charles and Diana done right.”
Though the royal nuptials left many in tears, the “Break My Heart” singer was more elated than tearful (“Not emotional, more happy,” she explained). Her optimism reflects the changing attitude toward the British monarchy.

“This is our generation’s Charles and Diana. I thought it was a testament to the way the monarchy is changing, the way that people feel about British monarchy and all that stuff,” she continued. “People were just happy and excited to see [Kate] and a real marriage taking place.”

And while some conspirators may have doubts about their love, Estelle knows it is genuine. “You saw real love. She walked up and he said to her, ‘You look beautiful.’ He looked like he couldn’t believe his eyes. And you could see that whatever they were doing was real,” she asserted. “It wasn’t fake, it wasn’t any of that. It was like, ‘OK, we’ve got to do all of this, but we are here. We are happy.’ And that’s what you want the people you look up to in life to be like.”
