Maybe a little bit of A, maybe a little bit of B.

That's just speculation. He said the company is moving in a different direction and bozos were like "It's the damn G1 shit"

If anything the company is most certainly moving in more of an entertainment presentation lol

yeah that was Hausman, so grain of salt

I'm way too lazy to find them but there's more recent stuff that contested that by more "reputable" folks. some people were spreading something about him being left off collision and being mad at tony taking the blame instead of pointing the finger at punk. all of which COULD be true. But most of the time it's usually simpler than that. I think he wants to still be working and got the taste in AAA holding a belt. He could be a much bigger fish in a smaller pond. He only has so many years so it's pretty much now or never. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

all that said, I hope AEW goes to a more NJPW direction regardless lol. yesterday was close tbh

I think he just wanted to wrestle more as a bigger deal like he was in Mexico. That rejuvenated him and Tony wasn't willing to offer much more than Rampage or ROH

certainly has been of late (though I would argue too much but also that there always has been a lot of elements of it).

I do think the pendulum is starting to swing the other way and that we have kind of reached the zenith of a shiton of Sports Entertainy angles simultaneously. The tourny has been a nice palette cleanser

yeah and I think that's a totally fair perspective from both. ppl also used to get BIG MAD anytime he would have any screen time and the Hobbs creative direction soured a lot of others on him too. which was a bummer as I liked it and was willing to see where it goes.

AEW would probably do best to try and strike a balance between NJPW work-rate and WWE style entertainment values. Much more akin to 1987 JCP, if that makes sense.

it's what they've been doing for a while - though I would say early on I would compare the SE aspect more to like mid southy stuff? They were big on the Dan Lambert stuff and often the SE stuff was for Codyverse and Jericho stuff. Elite stuff has drama but it was much more BTE style too, with in arena skits in their style. it all felt unique coming from fresh voices. outside of cody, who even then, I thought sounded like a phony :heston (not in a bad way btw its just his character)

Mid-South Wrestling is a great example actually, wish more companies were like that and JCP. (and not in the way NWA thinks it is)

When Punk got there they started leaning into a lot more WWE formulas - and not only because of Punky but they switched producers when one of them retired or passed away. You started slowly seeing more long promo in rings (see mjf punk, which was jarring to a lot of ppl). it's been going more and more that way for a while without t he benefit of stuff like rankings. which was fine until wwe started doing actually good wwe things. that's why a lot of ppl talk about it feeling different now and AEW started listening that we dont want WWE lite

Biggest reason why TNA failed so hard in 2008-2012.

Can't blame him if he wants to take a shot on himself rather than be regulated as a producer/occasional squash fodder guy. He had a shot in AEW's early days with The Factory - I miss Nick Comoroto and how the amount of pointless accessories he has would grow with every appearance, bring that beefy caveman back to TV please and thank you - along with QTV, but I think it struggled to translate into something that clicked. He was fine enough as a midcard gatekeeper of sorts, but the more the company grew, the more he got left behind, and if he has aspirations to be bigger than that, then I can't blame him and wish him all the best. He got paid, got exposure, and should be able to parlay that into a decent run, somewhere.

Probably.
