11. Saw Series

saw.jpg

The horror films with a morality complex. Lets play a game. A bunch of people that have been connected are set into traps that give them the opportunity to live or die and possibly finish off someone else in the process. You have a sick guy that wants a little revenge for things that happened to him in his life that he wants some sort of vengeance for and for those chosen individuals to look at their lives and their choices. Saw became a staple of Halloween for a few years and hopefully no more scare its way up as it had its day but nothing was like watching the first movie and seeing the guy get up off of the floor that was watching the whole thing.

Evil Dead series

The Movies that launched Bruce Campbell and the guy that seems to be winning our own Horror Movie Hero's contest. The evil that comes out from a book that creates the unlikeliest of hero's that we have ever seen. Ash is the man and great costume for Halloween.

Honorable Mentions

Paranormal Activity

The series that has everyone talking about now on Halloween since there has not been any more Saws coming out. You have a family that is being tormented by an evil spirit/demon that you can not see. This is also one of the most copied style of movies now that the success has gone on for the last few year but it was started by the next honorable mention.

The Blair Witch Project

The film that launched the found footage craze IMO. I saw this in the theaters believing that this was real until I saw the end, which added tot he scare factor. The first half of the movie was boring as shit and now that I know its fake the whole thing is more boring than the first time that I saw it. Now I loved it and still think that it holds a special place since I put myself into these 3 people lost in the woods that could not find themselves nor this witch that was bothering them. What says Halloween more than a crazy bitch witch that wants revenge. What ever you do do not watch the sequel as it sucked balls, glad I got in free on an advance screening and listening to what they were describing it never lived up to what the original did for them nor did it lead to better sequels like they had planned.

9. Jeepers Creepers

jeepers_creepers.jpg

A brother and sister heading home from college run into something that they can not believe. Derry the brother think he saw a body dump after getting run off the road by a truck with the license plate saying BEATNGU. Derry decides to check it out and finds someone alive that tells him to run along with other bodies stitched upon the ceiling of the cave that he enters. He continues to get hunted down after being told that his life is in danger from a psychic who claims to know what is going on. The creeper comes back every 20 or so years and has a harvest time where it goes on a rampage of killing and eating parts for what seems for parts of his body. Not a bad film that seems to lose some luster after the first half, but since the creeper acts like a scarecrow and gets some tongue from the head of a cop I had to put it up high on the list including the fact that it is the fall/Halloween season. The sequel was not as good as the first and takes place near a corn field. Justin Long is in both films which is a plus as he is pretty comical. If you haven't checked this one out I say give it a go.

8. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (series)

A group of teenagers go to visit their grandfather and get hunted down by a leather skin wearing chainsaw wielding killer. Leatherface goes on a spree with these teenagers and into horror movie immortality. He becomes the fantasy of a couple of teenagers in the movie Summer School along with several sequels and a reboot along the way. If you have not seen the original I posted the whole thing from youtube in this post please watch it the only that the reboot has on this one is Jessica Beil.

Coming tomorrow. Some guy that has some cool powers and another that has some fangs and possibly a guy that ushers in birth of the son of the devil.

As someone not really into Horror films, I really enjoyed the first Paranormal Activity. Never bothered with the sequels though.

It's not bad for a first entry into a franchise. It was decent as most of the things being done were unexpected. The sequels were really not as good IMO but they do tell a whole backstory about the girl in the first one and how the demon came to be. Have not seen part 4 but it seems like another family.

7. Dracula

What more do I have to say. This is the dude that started all the scary movies basically. There has been more versions of vampires thanks to him than almost any other horror creature ever, including those pussy vampires from Twilight. This is also still one of the most popular characters for halloween.

6. Hellraiser series

Pinhead the ultimate master of horror. Clive Barker brings us this great character that has so many powers that its scary. I wished we could get some great horror films like this again. Pinhead is also a great costume too.

5. Friday the 13th series.

The Hockey mask, the kid that drowned in the water. Never go camping at Crystal Lake again. Jason and his mother terrorized campers for years and later on Manhattan and in space. Jason is the man and still a great Halloween character.

4. Nightmare on Elm Street Series

What more can I say about Freddy than what already hasn't been said in this board. Freddy haunts your dreams and because of that fear he comes back to life. NOES was an original just like F13th was on how they created things that can scare you. Freddy was also an easy and great costume for Halloween. I used him many times growing up.

3. The Exorcist

This was recently watched on our own movie LD's and one of the scariest films of all time. Fuji believes that the Omen is scarier I believe this one is, but either way you can not go wrong. This film had everything one would need in a horror film for the ages and many possession films try to be this but are not, like PA and others.

2. Halloween series

Michael Myers and Halloween go hand in hand. You have the sinister Michael killing off his family every way that he can. He keeps coming back multiple times and made Halloween fun again for many. His mask has sold over and over and is still a classic centerpiece for any Halloween party.

1. The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

My number 1 is not a horror movie but a kids show and when I think of Halloween I think of Charlie Brown. This masterpiece has been played for years and its great. So for all of you that hate my choice tell me why but I love it and it is not Halloween without it and I got a rock in my trick or treat bag.

Well since it is Halloween today. Happy Halloween and I hope everyone enjoyed my list.

I just look at it as the demonic side of things and how Halloween was started with the jack o lanterns to keep the evil spirits away
