At the start, if you don't know how and if you're new, then finding a slight inspiration from someone isn't a bad idea. If you're a fan of The Miz for example and you want an arrogant Hollywood actor then it can get your feet wet. Hell, Danger Zone in NGW had some vibes of DX, New Day and Edge and Christian. We were the joke-loving duo. Yet, if you really look at where my character is now (and something I was trying to do in NGW but had restrictions) he is a far more layered and dynamic character and is far from what he was.
The Blade, he was a Hurricane ripoff at first, but other than "They're both Super Heroes" he ended up a different character. Then Tyler Keenan, an e-fed example, at first he was a spoiled ex-male model and now he's downright one of the most layered heels I've ever seen. His tag team partner Christopher Jordan, at first he was Batman, the prototypical arrogant rich guy and he's a dynamic character who (when his partner ain't around) is typically a humble person who's suffered personal problems. Leagues, Will Nielson, he's a solid character and took some time to develop, Jack Rogue, became layered, KJ Kidd, former League character, has gone leaps and bounds.
Some people take time to develop their characters, especially if you used them when you first started out and weren't comfortable, but if you've become comfortable and are capable of having a character who isn't just a modified version of [insert character here], then do it.
