Kinda feel for Matt really because I can understand where he's coming from. He said he's a high flyer and such and didn't want to show it off too early presumably out of safety for the others. As far as interrupting Austin goes, I don't even see what was bad about it at all as he didn't disrespectfully cut him off or anything, he asked for permission to speak and address what Austin just said. As for him being kicked off for having no personality, I just find that pretty laughable in all honesty and Skidmarks should have easily gone.
The problems I have with what you said:
- All the guys and girls were doing their own thing before training was declared to start by Bill, who was watching what they do. Some worked in a ring, some tied up, some shadow boxed, some exercised, etc. so one one would think he would be able to go in a corner and practice some flips
- Matt was on the outside with Luke and they were practicing and Trish said showboat a little bit to which Luke did and Matt didn't, so she said don't be nervous and asked about what he was good at. He told her flips and gymnastics point blank, and she told him you got 3 minutes to show off.
- He walked into the ring for 3 minutes with Luke who has been wrestling for 5 years in NWA promotions. Trish and Bill kept saying show some emotion. Even Christina said make some noise from the outside. Matt did nothing in the ring from an emotion standpoint and Luke made noises, made faces, and showed off with a signature move of his in that 3 minute span. Basically Luke made him look like he couldn't work the WWE style just that quick and has half the experience. If he wasn't going to fly he could have still busted out a standard Kelly level flip or two in the ring and tried to connect with the crowd somewhat by at least selling the moves he took by grunting, making faces, and all that. He worked like an X Division guy by selling nothing while Luke worked like a WWE mid card guy and star by selling everything he did, but that also comes to mindset when you watch their casting videos and Luke says he wants to define wrestling over letting it define him.
- In the 5 for Flinching challenge he was the one person guy or girl besides Skids to not even change expression when taking the body slams or even get in Bill's face and show what Vinny Mac refers to as ruthless aggression and intensity.
- He was put in the bottom 3 to light a fire under him, but he was soft spoken when asked why he was there and what he felt about it. Then he told Austin of all people he was going to wait for his moment, when the world knows Austin took his. Austin goes on a tirade about how nice guys don't get shit, guys who just sit and wait don't get shit, and how you had to be mean to survive the contest only for him to say "permission to speak". Then he would go on to tell a pissed off Austin with Veins popping and head swiveling "I didn't want to do that stuff from day one or show off because I didn't think I should do it this early out of respect for what you are doing and should wait to break it out". He basically ignored Austin's point about showing some courage by being mean to get noticed and showing courage by not simply just waiting your turn.
That got him booted, and you can easily see Skids was biting the bullet from Austin/Trish/Bill before Matt repeated the same shit after a lecture on what not to do and what Austin was/wasn't looking for.
If he would have just cut Austin off to defend himself forcefully like Miss 11 years, would have stated his case face to face and staring Austin dead in the eyes after Austin made his point, or hell if he would have even got mad and flipped out a little bit why his belt was being taken, he would have likely stayed. He shot himself in the foot in the situation where he and Rima both were going in to be taught a lesson and have a fire started under their asses.
As for the personality part again, he just didn't take his window and maximize it like Luke did after Trish specifically told him "show me what it is that you do and got you by for 9 years". He didn't do it in that match because he played it safe, whereas Luke went in there and showed a sample of what he has been doing for 5 to the point Bill and Trish both said "it was Matt's opportunity, but Luke took it from him", so it really made him look bad.
