Pretty good video wire. I liked the sit down interview with Lynn. The next few shows don't look too bad either..

January 8th: We're just over one week away from the debut of RISING ABOVE on pay per view starting Friday, January 16th. In case you missed the news several weeks back, this event will be available to DIRECT TV subscribers for the first time. Other cable operators carrying this event include iN Demand, The Dish Network, & TVN cable systems in the United States. Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu will be carrying the event in Canada. For more details on this PPV event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508.

January 8th: The first teaser from the RISING ABOVE pay per view with clips from Nigel McGuinness vs. Bryan Danielson can be viewed here: http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=NhHnDD7DAkI.
January 8th: Jerry Lynn sat down for a compelling interview in the last ROH Video Wire at http://www.you-tube.com/watch?v=qJ6iYXi_iAY. He talked about a variety of subjects, including losing his confidence, and his love for the wrestling industry. Now on January 16 in Manassas, Lynn will take to the squared circle once more, this time against a man that has many questions to answer. Austin Aries has been eerily silent since Final Battle, and has yet to shed any light on his attack of Tyler Black, speculation of an alliance with arch nemesis, Jimmy Jacobs, or anything else. Now we’ve come to find that he’s signed to face Lynn, who’s on a quest of his own. Will we get any closer to clarity on 1/16?

January 8th: Ring of Honor officials are still receiving no cooperation from Austin Aries when it comes to the World Title Match that he earned by virtue of his win over Tyler Black at Final Battle. The Booking Committee has been trying to secure the championship match for the fans in Edison on January 17. We hope to have an update on this as soon as possible, as neither the ROH Office nor Nigel McGuinness has any clue what Aries is doing.

January 8th: “Sugarfoot” Alex Payne and Silas Young have earned another chance at ROH Pay-Per-View based on their showing at “Rising Above”. On January 31 in Chicago, they’ll face each other in singles competition.

January 8th: Ring of Honor will return to Detroit, MI on Friday, January 30th for "Motor City Madness 2009". Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright in a "Special Challenge Match" was made official yesterday. Kevin Steen and El Generico have just found out who they’ll defend the World Tag Team Titles against, and they couldn’t be happier. Stemming off of the attempt to take out Steen’s knee much like they did Mark Briscoe's, Larry Sweeney’s American Wolves have signed the dotted line, and you can bet the fight will be on. “They tried like hell to take me out”, said Steen. “And they got a lot closer than I care to admit. In Detroit on the 30th, Generico and I are coming for our receipt.”

January 8th: Friday morning is your last chance to take advantage of the two current specials running at www.rohwrestling.com. The first offer features over 20 ROH live event DVD's from 2005 for only $8 each. The second deal features $10 off all ringside reserved seats for all upcoming live events. Complete details on the sale can be found here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2435.

January 8th: Another phone call came into the ROH Offices yesterday from the same person that called before about returning to “where it all began”.

January 8th: Kenny King will not be appearing in Manassas and Edison as advertised. We apologize for any inconvenience. We can announce that King, along with YRR teammate, Chasyn Rance, will appear when ROH returns to Florida in Coral Springs on February 6 and Orlando on February 7!

January 9th: You can now take 30% Off your next order placed at www.rohwrestling.com. This includes DVD's, tickets to upcoming live events, apparel, & much more. For complete sale information including the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338.

January 9th: Now in stock at www.rohwrestling.com is "Wrestling At The Gateway" from Collinsville, IL on December 6th. This event features ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn, Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black, Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher & Ace Steel, a Tag Team Gauntlet Match featuring Jay & Mark Briscoe, plus more.

January 9th: One of the hottest feuds anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region will make its way into an ROH ring as both Damien Wayne and Sean Denny have been entered into the Four Corner Survival match on 1/17 in Edison. Fans of ROH may not be familiar with this feud, but those on the Mid-Atlantic coast have been watching these two brutalize each other for some time. Combine them with The Necro Butcher and Delirious in the same ring at the same time and we have all the makings of a time bomb ready to go off!

January 9th: Erick Stevens and Roderick Strong have an open contract for a tag team match on January 30th in Detroit, one night before the huge steel cage war in Chicago on Pay-Per-View. “We want to test ourselves”, said Stevens. “We think we have what it takes to be a top-notch tag team in Ring of Honor, and we want to see if we’re right.” We’ll have their opponents soon right here in the Newswire.

January 9th: After several heated conversations with Larry Sweeney and Sweet-N-Sour Incorporated, as well as Brent Albright and company, ROH Officials have decided that the Steel Cage War in Chicago will be a 5-on-5 contest. It will be "Caged Collision" coming to Pay-Per-View from the Windy City. The rules of this match will closely follow those set forth in the epic “Cage of Death” encounter that capped the ROH/CZW War. This match will be the Pay-Per-View main event on 1/31!

January 9th: Claudio Castagnoli recently issued a challenge to Brent Albright for a singles match in Detroit on 1/30. Now we’ve learned that he’s been lobbying for a big time singles match to take place on PPV in Chicago. ROH Officials have reached out to the man that Claudio has targeted, and we hope to have an announcement next week.

January 9th: The Age of the Fall, represented by Brodie Lee and Delirious, will be in tag team action on Pay-Per-View on January 31st. The ROH Booking Committee doesn’t think it will take very long to finalize their opponents.

January 9th: Only a week removed from their upcoming Steel Cage War, Roderick Strong, Erick Stevens, and Brent Albright will appear when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 and 7. We’ll have more talent announcements next week in the Newswire.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Claudio wants Albright on PPV in a "singles" match, when albright is already in a match? I mean, this will likely lead into Claudio going into the cage match. But why bother.

Some of the new ROH booking has been real good while other things (like this) makes you scratch your head. They need to look back and really go through things before releasing stuff. Sometimes they leave too many loopholes and have things that don't make sense.

Agree'd.

Hmmm, you know what. I think I've been reading that statement wrong. I THOUGHT it meant Claudio wants Albright in Chicago for a singles match, but i think its supposed to mean, Claudio wants a big singles match against whomever in Chicago.

Like you said, theres some pro's and con's with Pearce. To me, so far the con's are outweighing the Pro's, but its too early to really judge. TO me, the newswire has turned almost soap opera ish. AT first it was a nice change of pace, but now its screwy. I think Pearce is ending a lot of Gabe's ideas too fast, which most bookers would probably do, to start their own ideas. But as far as Pearce's ideas thus far : Jerry Lynn megapush, Hyping up SnS vs ALbright, Stevens, Roddy, American wolves.... I just don't the strategy behind pearces ideas just yet.

I think going to the live shows is going to be a big sign of how im going to feel about ROH in the future. That's why i've been eyeing the Detroit card.

Yeah I hear ya man. Well I've only gone to one Pearce show (Final Battle) and it was one of the best ROH shows I've ever been too. Also, I guess to be fair to Pearce, according to Cary it's a committee booking and not just one guy.

- January 13th: We're just three days away from the debut of Ring of Honor RISING ABOVE on Pay-Per-View. You can watch this event on DIRECT TV, iN Demand, The Dish Network, & TVN cable systems in the United States and Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada. The first review on the show is in and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote "You are not going to find a show with two better matches on it, nor any better of a final hour." For complete details on this event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508.

- Austin Aries finally made contact with the ROH Booking Committee after ignoring several attempts to reach him since Final Battle. After several requests, he said that he'll capitalize on the World Title shot he earned by defeating Tyler Black to "become the first two-time ROH World Champion" in Edison. He also said that soon his "manifesto would be opened to the eyes of the blind".

- We received disheartening news late last week in reference to Mark Briscoe's ailing knee. It appears that he will be sidelined for much longer than originally thought. Jay Briscoe stated that, "(Mark) has been told that they need to shorten the ligament behind his kneecap and tighten the ligaments on the sides." It seems that medical personnel may in fact need to harvest the ligament tissue needed for the procedure from cadavers. We've been told to expect him to be out of action somewhere between 4 and 6 months, depending on his recovery and the rehabilitation process. Everyone at Ring of Honor wishes Mark the best in his recovery.

- Titus will have the biggest test of his young wrestling career when ROH returns to Detroit. On January 30, "Addicted to Love" will meet the "Best in the World" as Titus has signed to face "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson in a singles match. "Hey Brother, I'm making a name for myself," said Titus. "And the ladies of Detroit Rock City will quiver when I swivel because everyone knows, brother, that my delts will make them all – even Danielson – melt."

- ROH Officials are happy to announce that a rematch from "The French Connection" has been signed for Detroit. Brodie Lee of the Age of the Fall has demanded another shot at the Necro Butcher claiming that the match they had in Montreal "pales in comparison to the beating I'll give Necro on the 30th".

- You can now take 30% Off your next order placed at www.rohwrestling.com. This includes DVD's, tickets to upcoming live events, apparel, & much more. For complete sale information including the discount code click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2338. Our latest DVD release is "Wrestling At The Gateway" from Collinsville, IL on December 5th. This event features ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Bryan Danielson & Jerry Lynn; Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black; Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher & Ace Steel; Tag Team Gauntlet Match with Brent Albright & Erick Stevens vs. Sweet N Sour Inc. vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Irish Airborne; plus more.

- We're pleased to announce that current ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness, as well as the current ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico, have all signed and will be in action when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 and 7!

Danielson vs. Titus (cue game show losing sound) SUCKS. Not surprised Detroit gets ANOTHER throwaway match. At least ROH comes to Detroit. But that matches almost leads me to believe there will be a big title match in Detroit....All signs point to Nigel vs Black for the Belt.

- Steel Cage Warfare as main event in Chicago
- Black getting a non-title match in virginia
- Detroit having a very lackluster card
- By looking how stacked the Virginia and NJ shows are

Detroit HAS to get ONE good match.

I didnt really feel that NJ and VA(i'm a NJ regular) were that stacked with all the local guys on the shows but the top three matches in NJ could possibly be very good. still disappointed that there is no Steenerico this weekend. it was bad enough they got wasted on the Osirian Portolet last time in NJ,now they arent booked at all. my personal opinion is that the new committee isnt as big on Steenerico as many of us fans are but i guess we'll have to see how it plays out. im the first person to complain about the new booking but I agree time will tell. i dont mind three hour plus shows when im driving 2 hours plus to get there. also the more moves the better even in the earlier matches, I personally dont get burned out. i thought in Philly some of the name guys held back many of their cool moves. it wouldve tough to screw up the last 2 shows of 08 or the ppv but most of the others since the change dont look worthy of buying the DVDS.

Yeah, I agree with you. I wasn't sure if it was me, but it seems like Steenerico doesn't have the same feel as to when Gabe was booking. As far as NJ goes, i think for this time of year, thats a stacked show. Jacobs/Aries for the first time should be epic. They say Danielson/Lynn was very good, and you know Aries/Nigel will put on a great match. Yeah, the undercard isn't that strong, but I'd take any of those three matches for Detroit over whats announced already. New Jersy generally gets a pretty good show, so i'd say they are about on par. I was more surprised Virginia gets such a good card. Again the top 3-4 matches all look great.

PS i loved Steenerico vs. The Portal!!!

Really? It just felt like a total squash to me. It was good to see The Portal starting to get over with their in-ring... Uhhh, let's go with in-ring shenanigans.

Yeah, that was probably the funnest/Funniest match ROH has put on all year. I kinda figured those tag matches would be squashes.

Agreed. That's why I'd like to some more of the CHIKARA guys getting booked in ROH. They can put on solid matches, and add a dimension (Comedy) that for the most part is non-existent in ROH shows. Not only that, it gives us some fresh faces and match-ups.

Saturday's lineup in Edison will feature Nigel McGuinness vs. Austin Aries for the ROH World Title; Bryan Danielson vs. Jerry Lynn in a rematch from All Star Extravaganza IV; Tyler Black vs. Jimmy Jacobs in a Grudge Match of former Age of the Fall partners; Roderick Strong & Erick Stevens vs. The American Wolves of Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards in a Lumberjack Strap Match; The Necro Butcher vs. Delirious vs. Damien Wayne vs. Sean Denny in a Four Corner Survival; Rhett Titus vs. Brent Albright; Jay Briscoe vs. Chris Escobar. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door on the night of the show.

- TOMORROW NIGHT is also the debut of RISING ABOVE on Pay-Per-View. We've been talking about it all week and now is the time for you to check out this event for yourself. If you've missed the reviews or teasers for the event click here: http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=2508. The event premieres at 10pm EST on DIRECTV, iN DEMAND, DISH Network and TVN in the U.S. and Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVu in Canada.

- Claudio Castagnoli's challenge has been laid out for 1/31 in Chicago, and it's a unique one. "I want to show everyone first hand the superiority that I possess," said Claudio. "My skill is unmatched. My stature as an athlete is unparalleled. And in Chicago, I will showcase my European grit and my championship potential, and that is why I challenge Kevin Steen." ROH Officials did not expect that, as Steen and Generico are defending the World Tag Titles the previous night in Detroit. We are currently waiting to see if Steen will accept the match.

- ROH Officials are happy to announce that Jerry Lynn and the Necro Butcher have been confirmed and will appear when ROH returns to Florida on February 6 in Coral Springs and on February 7 in Orlando!

- Jay Briscoe is going to be without his brother, Mark, for several months while Mark rehabs his injured knee. But that won't slow Jay down. He commented, "I got it bad, man, and Sweeney's boys will pay for what they done. But Mark being on the shelf don't mean I've lost my purpose. It may even be a blessing in disguise, because now ROH will have to face me as a singles wrestler." Jay is signed to compete in Detroit and Chicago, and he's looking for big competition. "I will get my revenge on Sweeney, and at the same time I'll prove myself."

- Speaking of Jay, he gave the ROH World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Steen and El Generico a sincere if not tense "thank you" in the 1/6/09 edition of the ROH Videowire http://www.rohvideos.com/watch?v=qJ6iYXi_iAY. "We know that without the Briscoe Brothers there is no Steen and Generico," said Steen. "And we have our own issues with Sweet-n-Sour now. In Detroit we got our first shot at redemption against the Wolves, and it's going to be the start of our retribution."

- ROH is happy to welcome two Chicagoland veterans to pre-show competition on the 31st. Egotistico Fantastico and Deryck St. Holmes, Esq. will face off in singles competition, and ROH officials are excited to see what these two tremendous talents will bring to the ROH stage.

- Coming off Mickey Rourke's Golden Globe win for Best Actor, the movie The Wrestler will be opening this weekend in the following markets: Albany, Albuquerque, Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boca Raton/West Palm Beach, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Columbus, Hartford/New Haven, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Madison, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Milwaukee, Northampton/Springfield, Orlando, Portland, Rochester, Sacramento, Salt Lake City/Boise, and St. Louis. Check your local listings for times and theatres.

- The Buy 3, Get 1 Free Ring of Honor DVD Sale will be in effect at www.rohwrestling.com starting Thursday afternoon and at both live events this weekend. Available later today will be "Southern Hostility" from Nashville, TN on December 6th. This event featured Nigel McGuinness defending the ROH World Title against Jerry Lynn in a great match; Bryan Danielson vs. Claudio Castagnoli in a NO DQ Match; Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black vs. The Necro Butcher & Austin Aries; Brent Albright & Erick Stevens vs. Sweet N Sour Inc; plus more.
