Speaking of Hafner, what ever happened to that dude. He was a beast, and haven't heard from him in like a year.

jason varitek is the catcher for the redsox and his stats are down cause he has to catch for matsasoka (sp?) who throws like 7 different pitches and wakefield (a knuckleballer) so he has to concentrate on catching and hes one of the best catchers in the league. hes back up in the all star game anyways. the red sox have him just to do the catching. not to do much offense.

and ya hamilton did amazing in the first round although he still lost overall to monreau unfortunately.

and again travis, grady sizemore is in the home run derby cause hes leading the AL in homeruns with 23. and no one really expected him to win it... he did fine.

Just like to say that the last time I checked, Matsuzaka throws 3 pitches, Fastball, changeup and a slider (or it might be a curveball, Sox fans should know this). I highly doubt "focusing on catching" would cause someone to bat sub-.220 unless they were just a bad hitter. I mean come on, he gets paid what, $12million a year to call a good game for the pitchers but not hit a lick at the plate?

Joe Mauer > ALL

except Taylor Teagarden >_>

but anyways...yeah, Varitek is just a bad hitter imo. The only reason the Red Sox are keeping him is because he can catch...plus he never catches when Wakefield pitches.

he throws a 4 seam fastball, a 2 seam fastball, curveball, cut fastball, slider, fork ball, and the gyroball.

and varitek is usually a better hitter but hes having a bad hitting year. hes doing what he needs to do and thats catch

I have a question for you...does the gyroball even exist?!?!?!? :shifty:

but really...I saw a vid where CJ Wilson (closer for Rangers) was discussing whether the gyroball existed or not. Wilson is saying that he can throw the gyroball...so...yeah

So basically Dice K has a fastball, curve, slider, fork and (maybe) gyroball

4 definate pitches...and he makes them work so

and ya the gyro ball is like a screwball/change up but its about as fast as a fastball.

I pitch and damn would I love to learn the gyroball...that would be fucking awesome. But I don't feel like learning all of this body shit...so I'll stick to using my screwball :)...and my fastball that breaks up

im trying to learn how to throw a good curve right now, and screw around with an eephus, cause when you do it right its probably the fucking funniest thing in the world to see the batters face.

Right now i got a 4 seam, 2 seam, slider, circle change, and trying for a curve

But back on MLB...

We (The Reds) Were so close to sweeping the Mets in a 4 game series! We were close to winning it to! The first loss came when Cordero lost a 2 run lead in the ninth. And then last night it went into extra's after a series of ties and lead changes.

I think the Mets will eventually end up failing to win the NL East. They might have been white hot before the break, but if they keep up the way they did against the Reds, almost getting swept in a 4 game series, there isn't any way they'll win.
