5 pages? holy shit, never expected that. Let me tally up the votes for Ss & Gslol @ the argument dolph started on that bball forum.
2Wardell Stephen "Steph" Curry the II. No doubt.
3Curry. The ankles are a concern, but he's 4 years younger, he's an improving playmaker, and the one thing that Carmelo does better than nearly anyone - scoring - Curry is almost able replicate with his otherworldly shooting ability.
4Really? Curry, no doubt about it.
5Curry due to age.
Melo has forever lived in the shadows of LeBron. He is a true franchise player. If both players were of the same age, I would choose Melo over Curry with healthy ankles 10/10.
6Curry... and it's not even close!
7As for the question, I'd definitely take Curry.
Better offensively, not as much of a liability defensively.
8Curry without a doubt. He's younger, a MUCH better play-maker, and is the best shooter in the NBA imo. I understand that people are worried about his ankles but he's stayed healthy and relatively ankle injury free last year, playing in 78 games. Also, Melo can't really co-exist with another superstar unless that superstar is a pass first type of player such as Chris Paul, as we saw in his first season with the Knicks when his game didn't really mesh with Stoudemire (and Stoudemire was a superstar that season). Steph Curry however, would be able to play with another superstar because of his play-making tendencies.
9Curry.
His scoring opportunities happen rapidly without stopping the offense, they can happen at any point in the possession this way whether on or off court, he's a far more gifted passer, and he takes up a position where defense is not as big of a deal. He's also mature and serious, and seems to have a good handle on his strengths and his weaknesses.
I'd have much more faith that I could slot in players around him that would work well together, I'd have more faith in his place as a positive influence on and off the court, and I'd have more faith that he would grasp and appreciate what we were doing and would be less prone to seek out another team simply because of the city they played in.
10Curry is one of very few players in the league with the ability to single handedly take over and win a playoff series. Saw it last year and even saw it at davidson. Dude loves the big stage
11Is this thread serious? I don't see how anyone in their right mind would pick Melo over Curry.
12I'm certainly not taking a blackhole over Curry.
13Wow, openng the thread I thought that literally no one but SOME Knicks homers would take Melo over Curry. I am genuinely surprised/shocked.
14Can't believe anyone is picking Melo lol.
15You won't be a championship contender with either player as the clear best player on your team (a point which would also be extended to Chris Paul).
So my assumption is that I'd have a couple of other high quality players as well. And I would definitely rather have Curry on my team because I think he would be a more complementary fit with those other stars than Melo would.
Plus, Carmelo is an elite scorer, but Curry is just better at it than he is. This year, curry has a lower USG%, better ORtg, DRtg, TS%, efg%. He's scoring more per minute while shooting less.
16 (disagree that Steph isn't MVP-caliber, he is 3rd/4th this year in my balloting, but what do I know??)As someone who doesn't live in NY and presumably won't live in NY or LA . . . Carmelo is going to whine his way out of town at the earliest opportunity so for that reason alone it's Curry. I do like Curry's game a little better too and think the age and injury issues cancel out of measure slightly in Curry's favor though it's iffy.
17Curry is a better team player than Melo. When you're not a bonafide MVP-caliber, you'd better be a great player that fit multiple scenarios of team build. Curry is that guy, Melo isn't.
Proof that Melo doesn't have that kind of versatility is that the Nuggets got better with Melo departure and the Knicks got worse the season they got Melo. Because he doesn't really adapt himself to any team, but imposes the team to mold after his game, because of his ball-stopping, iso-heavy nature.
Melo:Steph by far.
2Melo, because he is a better player, a better scorer. He can score outside and inside the paint. How can you even compare Melo with Curry?
3mhhh tough one.
Melo is older but he's not the walking ankle injury that Curry is.
one of the best things about Curry is his super cheap contract, signed when he was more or less injury prone. thus that very same friendly contract allowed the Warriors to sign Iggy with cap space after they cleared their junk. hence the Warriors success is caused by the profund management.
therefore I have to downgrade Curry according to the rules of the OP if it comes to contract.
give me Melo on equal deals.
we already covered the injury issues in the above paragraph. yet one has to note that Curry isn't missing as much time as he did in the past. however, chronic ankle injuries don't tend to get better.
advantage Melo
age is easily in Curry advantage.
and about the go-to-guy.
I have to pick Melo as well. I'm not really sold on SC to carry each team, no matter how badly contructed, into the playoffs.
a feat Melo has on his side.
PS: isn't this a question for the player comparision board?
4Wow at some of the answers... I would easily go with carmelo.. Imo theres a lot of good point guards in the league. Plus carmelo is one of a kind. He has a big body for a small forward and sometimes hard to guard one on one. Plus when is the last time a point guard who is the alpha dog, won a championship?
5 (I question this vote. Curry, glass knees?? wtf lol)Melo. History proves your chances of winning a title with a player like melo are a lot more likely then a player like curry.
Another thing, if you are in a game 7 against a team like the heat and they decide to throw Lebron on one of these two. Watch melo back Lebron down and continue to score points. I think when the moment comes down to a big play, I'd rather have Melo with the ball.
6 I'm counting this as a Melo vote, dammitMelo everytime. People forget that Curry has glass knees because of his health this year. It won't last though. He will get injured again soon I'm pretty sure. Melo has shown he can dtay healthy.
7 I'll give you your own vote too :haha:In Melo's valid defense - and I'm far from a Melo aficionado - the New York Knicks team environment is a toxic one. They lack floor spacing, and players who filled that role decently well in '13 are either retired (Kidd) or playing elsewhere (Novak and the underrated Copeland). Outside of Chandler, who himself is having a down season, everyone else has been outstandingly subpar. And I include Woodson here, whose 4th quarter gaffe vs. the Wizards at MSG still takes the cake for top blunders of the season. But hey, they finally acquired some talent, right? Does Bargnani count as second-banana talent? LeBron James should be glad that he didn't migrate there from Cleveland. He'd probably still be hunting for his 1st ring.
Meh. If this was '13 Curry, I'd pick him to start a franchise all day. But while I generally like Curry more than Melo, I can entertain those who side with Melo.
8Melo all day. He can score any way possible. Who is the best player that Melo has ever played with? IMO he's never had much help, and is forced to put the entire team on his shoulders. Melo is the more complete player.
Bulls had Jordan had pippen
Miami has Lebron had Bosh and Wade
Spurs had/have Duncan had Robinson, Ginobili, and Parker
Lakers had Kobe had Shaq
Celtics had Pierce, garnett, allen
I don't think Melo has ever had the right pieces around him to be a legitimate winner. I would totally rather have Melo over Curry, just because I know Melo can do everything.
Curry is a hell of a shooter, no disrespect
Melo over Curry
Melo is a better scorer, more versatile, can defend, pass and impact the game a lot more than Curry
yea I read that. she don't realize what a mess the organization isLaLa cracked that whip and said melo is staying in NY. Thatta girl, check your man. Honey nut Cheerios have a strong influence on me as well
Amare contract is up in 2015, until then they can only afford to get melo, and that's it. lol Funnyyea I read that. she don't realize what a mess the organization is
I had Jrue he went down and then I was working with his backup Roberts for awhile until Collison showed up on the Waivers.Nice, i'm still waiting on nash as well. Almost put in a claim for Jrue Holiday, but he's injured too atm.
