Because it didn't need the belt. They choose to put the belt on Rock when the decided to make it the main event.

That match didn't need to main two years in a row. You have a hot superstar do a 434-day reign as champion.

He can main one of those two Manias. Makes the most sense to do it over the Twice in a Lifetime match.

The bookers make the matches. They can book the belt on whomever they want. Make the challenger whomever they want.

Punk could have been the champion or challenger at any of his several Manias. Including 30. Orton/Punk/Batista/DB? Yes pls.

Your argument also falls apart since Punk WAS champion for the 2012 Rock/Cena match.

They also have had the belt not main event many times not just those one.

I feel like this debate is kind of pointless ultimately. Can't expect everyone to agree on what is right/wrong, and everyone's perception of wrestlers is different.

Triple H said the same thing bout him and Orton main eventing over Taker/Shawn

I'm with Chris though. Punk/Rock at 29 woulda been the way I went. Or even do a triple threat involving Cena since all three guys had that history anyways, and it also avoids the "Twice in a Lifetime" bullshit.

I always felt the Rock/Punk match was such a huge marquee match-up it could have taken place at Mania.

And imagine the pop if Rock won the 2013 Royal Rumble and not Cena? If Rock tossed out Cena to win even?

Setting Rock and Cena for SummerSlam, easily. Then you'd get Rock for what a few months as champion?

We could also do Cena/Taker at 29 since Rock/Punk is the main? Imagine that happening without the Cena squash?
