So Ricky was supposed to do Toyhio this last Saturday but cuz of the Defy stuff had to cancel last minute and when he called my buddy who runs it to tell him he also told him that unfortunately he won’t be able to reschedule because he was released Friday and was going to heading to WWE. Obviously we all know that but still thought it was some cool info that he was told Friday

Actually seriously speaking if there did end up being a big promotion ran by a Mark Cuban with a big TV deal, would be great for all of wrestling in general.

Pretty sure I've talked to Smark and Chris about this in the past.

I’m conflicted on this because I do think for the first time in almost the entire history of the sport. There’s enough talent and television deals out there that we could support 3 WWE/AEW level companies and Mark Cuban starting a new company is probably the best way to get there, but I think another national chain grabbing up talent would finally kill MLW and maybe NWA and possibly TNA.

I don't see TNA dying but MLW and NWA would 100% be fucked.

New promotions would rise up in its place tho, and in the scenario where they aren't killed, they'll just get new talent and promote new stars.

I think there's more wrestlers per capita today than there ever was even in the 80s, so it's not like there's necessarily a shortage of talent, they just aren't prominent atm.

That’s why I said possibly, but I do think it pushes TNA further down.

It’s probably worth NWA and MLW dying since neither of those companies are doing anything to elevate themselves anyway so let’s get a third company up there and utilize some of these talent that AEW and WWE can’t.

I’m sure new companies will rise in that time. But once you have a third national chain, they’ll never be another company that will get to the level that MLW once was cause there just isn’t enough space for that. You’ll have three national chains and a lot of really small Indies where the ceiling would probably be a GCW. But most most wouldn’t hit that. But I agree you would get more new talent farms and that couldn’t hurt.

I actually agree with this, which is why I said that earlier, which is what we’re talking about now with the Mark Cuban comment but I do still think that no matter what you can only have so many talent that people would pay to see. Which I think we could get three A-level companies, TNA at a B level and maybe one company at a C level (MLW adjacent) and then that would be it. Everyone else would be indies.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't count out smaller indies still getting regional tv or streaming deals, there's infinite opportunities in this day and age to grow.

A third national chain I don't think means the end of the super-indies, just means they have to be more constrained with who they can promote, and might encourage these smaller companies to start utilizing exclusive deals like MLW and TNA has.

I suppose it also depends on what you consider "super-indy", cuz imo the Super-Indies rn are GCW, MLW, MLP, and DPW.

Of course. We’re living in an age where anybody can get on YouTube or land to deal with Triller but realistically speaking not many people watch them. Like I have Triller plus and there’s like 20 companies on there with their weekly TV shows or their monthly pay views, but it’s not really the same thing as a MLW level company.

I consider MLW as a super Indy or a c level national company, depending on what you want to define certain things as and those other ones I would consider your top level normal indies.

I think if you can pull talent from AEW, NJPW and other indies on your level, or otherwise can afford to have exclusive talent that don't appear in other companies, you're a "Super-Indy".

I do think this was basically the definition of what a super Indy was in 2002 as a way to differentiate from companies that basically only people that lived in that town will go to, but I generally just referred to those companies as just local promotions. Cause today most Indies can get on some kind of Tape and generally can book talent from other companies as long as they take booking fees but yeah if we consider GCW and them super indies, though, I would consider MLW than just a c level national because I do think MLW is a step above MLP and GCW.

NWA is definitely a super Indy, especially considering that they have territories again. It’s like the biggest super Indy.
