A new league is proposed to begin in Autumn 2022 - being coined as ‘Major League Football’ with a focus on bringing professional football teams to areas of the country that previously hadn’t been represented by a pro-team. As part of a massive upheaval - multi million dollar contracts would be offered to a number of existing college football teams to make the jump into becoming a fully fledged professional franchise - whilst still keeping intact their University programme. This would lead to the following teams expanding into a pro-team:

Alabama Elephants (University of Alabama)
Arkansas Wild Boars (University of Arkansas)
Delaware Devils (University of Delaware)
Kentucky Killer Whales (University of Kentucky)
Twin Falls Tigers (Idaho State)
Wyoming Wizards (University of Wyoming)
Montana Magpies (University of Montana)
Charleston Cobras (West Virginia University)

A further nine teams would be created from scratch and be given adequate funding in order to help build their respective facilities and programs.

Beaverton Beavers (Oregon)
Salt Lake Scorpions (Utah)
Helena Saints (Montana)
Lincoln Lions (Nebraska)

This would result in a total of seventeen teams based in the United States taking part in the league. It would also be announced that the Canadian Football League had merged with the MLF - with all nine of their teams signing up to take part in the competition meaning that 2021 would be the last ever season of the CFL, bringing up the league to a total of twenty six teams.

There was further suggestion that some teams from Europe may join the league, depending on its success after a number of seasons.
When aligning the division it was decided that a maximum of two college aligned teams would be present in each of the four divisions, two Canadian teams and two newly formed teams would be present in each division. With it being understood that two teams would be left out - in this case it would be Iowa Invasion & BC Lions. These teams would be entered randomly into one four created divisions which would be named after precious stones. Below is the complete lists of the teams in their respective divisions:

Teams in the Diamond and Ruby Divisions would play each other once throughout the season for a total of 6 games in the regular season.

Teams in the Emerald and Sapphire Division would play each other twice throughout the season for 5 games - as well as playing a team from the other respective once to also push themselves up to a total of 6 games for the regular season.

The playoffs would consist of the top two teams in each division being placed in a hat and randomly drawn from it to determine who they would play in an elimination round. With the only exception being that teams from the same division could not play each other in the first elimination round.
It was made clear that the first season would very much be experimental that that competition structure could be changed for subsequent seasons.
